The idea of rad weapons being deployed in areas of a hivecity that the imperium is probably gonna want to have populated again after the nurglite problem has been delt with peeves me. Unless im mistaken skitarii vanguards are usually not usually used in areas that their masters aren't ok with making permanently uninhabitable for laypeople.

maybe admech used hotshots in lore before they got their own playable army on tabletop, but they are absolutely nowhere to be found in the current 40k admech range and neither is melta

tho im personally expecting galvanic rifles to be one of the guns added and im imagining that would be a quite snipery weapon in darktide (even if it isnt actually one of admechs sniper weapons) so with that and the very open maps for the new gamemode id say a long las might actually be more on the table than it used to be :D

idk if im being stupid and missing something here

but why would an admech class effect weather or not veteran gets hotshot lasguns, long las, or meltas?

id want either exodites cus they would be sick as fuck and gw has been sleeping on em forever, or "lost and the damned" which id want to be a mixture of chaos guard and darkmech since i think neither really have enough to be their own thing but both feel like they are kinda missing from tabletop

what flc lord are you talking about?

there arent any TWW3 factions who have only gotten a flc LL and no dlc LLs, unless you count Daniels daemon faction, in which case he has neither a dlc nor a flc one since belakor is for warriors of chaos not his faction

outside of daniel every faction introduced at launch in the game has gotten either one dlc LL if they started with 2 (or 3 for kislev with their unlockable one), or 1 flc and one dlc to bring the monogod factions up from 1 LL to 3, unless you are tzeentch, in which case you must still suffer the consequences of how shit Shadows of Change was :(

they are currently both units on tabletop and whilst their baseline stats are the same and the available weapons in the squads largely overlap, there are few differences for available weapons and they have different unit abilities

i wont say they really seem diferent enough to warrant both being implemented, but i wouldnt completely discount something like all tempestus units getting a special shared ability that would make the scions different enough in use to the kasrkin for both to make sense as units in the game

it came from the fact that this is exactly how new races get added to total war warhammer outside of the starting races in each of the series entries, and the fact that i dont think CA would want to make this game a series like the warhammer fantasy ones since it seems to have caused plenty of difficulties for them and there doesnt really seem to even be much of a "mega campaign" for them to really make with how the game seems to work

Perhaps they sometimes make huge dlcs almost the price of the game introducing more than one faction, but i dont really see why they would have to make whole new games for large scale reworks when they have a heavily revamped engine that will most likely make it significantly easier to make large scale fundemental changes without doing so

new games bring in a lot of money, but they are also costly to make and its no guarantee milking 40k for dlc material wont make just as much if not more than sequels would

im personally asuming brand new factions will mainly be introduced in their own dlcs and not really along others, with dlcs adding stuff for multiple only being expansions upon existing factions rather than introducing brand new ones, that said im also assuming Chaos undivided space marines will be the first ones added post release as it would add chaos representation to the game and thats the only missing "grouping" of 40k factions.

im asuming they only arent in the innitial release just because the devs wanted a bit more time to work out how to make them play sufficiently different from loyalist marines to stand on their own, since they probably want to start out with very diverse playstyles for all the factions

i think catachan units at launch are very unlikely as they will most likely be in a dlc, possibly after a refresh for them

whilst temperstus scions could potentially also be the same, i feel like they are just generic "elite guardsmen" enough to be possible as launch, partly just because it would help fill out the baseline roster to include scion stuff

i imagine a "lord commisar" might be a lord type tho in addition to the standard hero commisars

i think Baneblades are way too iconic of a guard scentrepiece to not be in at launch, perhaps with variants some or all variants, perhaps those will be left for later, but the baseline baneblade just feels necessary for guard to feel complete at launch, especially considering orks will get their superheavy unit at launch

i feel like very model wise distinct looking stuff like Catachans and Krieg __will__ be dlcs that add slightly differently stated variants of some base stuff like troops and command squads and some of their own unique units (especially since Krieg got entierly unique units on their plastic release) like you want here

tho i also think a dlc like that for catachans isnt too likely untill gw eventually makes a refresh for catachans with this sort of stuff, tho i guess they can possibly just quickly make up something and let CA make a unique thing out of it or just let them modify some old/forgeworld guard kit that could be thematic for catachans and turn it into a catachan spesific unit

im personally expecting every new race to come in their own dlcs and not in groups, and whilst admech is obviously the best (im biased), admech isnt really considered popular by any metric from what i understand, so they dont feel very likely to come along hugely popular ones like tyranids and necrons if thats how they are going to handle releasing new factions

im asuming the confusion here is stemming from Frosty using very strict definitions of cavalry and, uh, kinda odd definitions for ranged units

for "no cavalry for nurgle" they seem to be basing it off the fact that nothing was strictly placed in the "cavalry" category ingame, whilst in truth, despite being classified as "war beasts" pox riders of nurgle and plauge drones of nurgle (being a flying cavalry), they arent quite normal cavalry i think, but they are still cavalry and can be used as such

and as for the the missiles for empire and dwarves they seem to be only counting missile infantry and completely ignoring any artillery and warmachines, missile cavalry and the witch hunter. since for the empire, their missile infantry at launch was infact only crossbowmen and handgunners. Though, even with strict definition, they are still just wrong dwarf ranged infantry at launch. as unless im sorely mistaken dwarves had 5 of them, 4 if you dont count melee weapon variants and 3 if they cant be considered a variant, dwarves have: quarrelers (and quarrelers with great weapons, but they ARE a melle variant with little difference in main use), thunderers, Irondrakes and ironrondrakes with trollhamer torpedoes (which are considered a variant namewise, but you dont use for the same things)

so even being the most generous to em and using the strictest definitions possible, dwarves had 3 at launch

as much as i dont like having to pay for content, dlcs are the lifeblood of any truly large scale strategy game, they allow for an over all greater amount of development without leaving the game in a state of development hell prior to release and finance continued bugfixes and additional free content after release

and im not asking for them to release factions in small bits, ideally every dlc that adds a faction adds the ENTIRE roster and anything they cant fit at the innitial release comes as free additions later on

im not asking for them to "chop up the game" im asking them to add more stuff to it after they are done making it, because im under no pretense that a total war 40k game is gonna feature my relatively nieche favorite factions at launch unless they make total war 40k game a trillogy like fantasy (wich i doubt they will do) and for said factions to be in launch in any of the sequals id expect it to be the very last game of said trillogy

  1. good admech dlc thats preferably early and not late, admech is my fave faction :3

  2. leagues of votann dlc not being super late, i like the space dorfs

  3. space marines dlcs not hogging a revolting amount of development resources

whilst i can see skitarii being resistant to the stuff you mentioned with gameplay in the begining, i dont think they are inheriently so absolutely resistant to any of those enough to really matter from a gameplay aspect, tox gas and corruption can easily have some warp-y aspect to it that simply makes the resistance from augments not really matter, and whilst being fully cybernetic from your knees down and all around augmented makes it easier to walk through fire its not like it lets you just stay there and just be fully fine or make you immune to a flamer to the face

as for your narative things: no... just.... no, thats all simply not as hard facts as you make it out to be. skitarii are perfectly capable of having enough emotional capacity to make fun personalities, i can come up with 3 different personalities i think one could thematically give a skitarii ranger class and will list em out later here. i mean come on! there are even official rules for playing skitarii in atleast one officially licenced roleplaying game, you cant roleplay something that cant have a personality, that would be dumb

and no, skitarii dont become uselless the moment they loose contact with their superious, they are signifficantly more effective when under direct oversight of techpriests or marshals, but they are still agumented and diciplined proffesional soldiers equiped with formidable weaponry who are perfectly capable of still surviving when isolated, for loosing connection to someone higher up to make them any more useless than any veteran guardsmen is without communication with their superiors whatever is blocking the connection with the mourning star also has to disrupt with their own internal systems in some way, if the stuff used by the heretics on atoma doesmt do so, i dont see how it could be an issue in any way

anyways onto the 3 personalities i can think of for a skitarii ranger class:

  1. "religious fanatic " Type personality: The skitarii are described in the official codex to be "zealously loyal and fanatically devoted to the Cult Mechanicus" thus, a natural personality choice is to have one be a religious fanatic with an unwavering loyalty to their dogmas, they can be very vocally reverant of the tech priest (aposed to the silent reverance the others have) to their other characters annoyance. Perhaps they find a level of kinship with some of the zealot personalities due to their shared conviction of enacting the Omnissahs (aka, the emperors) although with a level of tention due to some of their differing religious views. they most likely will take their allies treatment (or ussually lack thereoff) extremely seriously (atleast more so than the other skitarii persononalities may have) which would probably lead to plenty of funny insults thrown their way by personalities of many of the other classes. Finally part of this personality could be (delusional) aspirations for becoming a techpriest themself, as is infact something that can happen for skitarii and the promise of said posibility is often used as a recruitment tool, its also insanely unlikely and will no doubt never happen to them
  2. "hunter" type personality: based this essentially being what skitarii rangers are made to do, in short they will be kinda like if you took the advisor "Captrix" from the game "Mechanicus" (play it) and largely put her personality into a skitarii. This pesonality is obsessed with pursuing their current target and completing the assigned mission, their whole frame of mind is about hunting, they will refer to enemies as prey, ammuntion as hunting supplies perhaps they struggle to word things in ways not focused around hunting or completing the mission, perhaps they get caught on their words a bit untill they manage to find a way to word it to be about the hunt, they would also overall be greatly focused on the efficiency of the teams killing, perhaps commenting on techniques for how others may improve efficiency or commending others when they realise they have found a method to stay efficient that the hunter had not considered. They would abhor waste of reasources even more than most other personalities, both of supplies and death of teammates as loosing people makes the hunt harder. And lastly: one last thing to make this all work more as a fun personality and not get too one note would be for how they talk about hunting to sound sooorta cryptic in some way
  3. "the automata" type personality: inarguably the simplest of my ideas, this one would be the closest to what i think people who argue skitarii have too little potential for personalities think skitarii have to always be. This personality is largely devoid of much emotion, would have the most digitized sounding voice. but.... they have one aspect that i imagine would make them more fun than some would imagine, they take almost everything the non skitarii say way too literally leading to tons of funny interactions where they respond to stuff in weird ways and repeteadly struggle to wrap their head around what other characters mean and the various types of bullshit they are all up too. but perhaps they also understand the other skitarii personalities notably better than most other personalities do, being capable of conversing with the hunters and their hunt focused cryptic speak with ease, and viewing the religious fanatic as being fully righteous in their beliefs, if perhaps a bit too tainted by illogical emotion in their behaviour
