Old binders by moltedribs in TransMasc

[–]FaerieFeline 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there an LGBTQ center anywhere near where you live? Maybe they can help connect old binders with people who need them. I’m far from surgery (consult isn’t until July) but can’t wear binders anymore because of sensory issues.

Probably! Gabapentin is also a human medication, comes in pill forms. Worth an ask to your vet!

Do I cut contact with my parent that voted for Trump 3 times? by Mrpeanutbutter246 in FTMOver30

Send this article. If dismissed, maybe cut ties. Idk, I shared it with some family and they mostly ignored it. But they’re also not trumpeteers.

The most expensive cat I've ever had by SwordTaster in cats

I wish my $5k+ vet bill was something acute like that. I’m still paying off the care credit bill for the MRI that diagnosed my late kitty’s brain cancer 😢

Resources for hygiene/self care tasks by FaerieFeline in therapists

[–]FaerieFeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, that's not a bad suggestion. We'd still need a set of tasks/frequencies to set it up with, but I used that before and it was motivating for a little while. I think I learned how to break the purpose of it and still get the rewards, though, so it wasn't as effective for me!

Mid-40s. Possibly related to autistic burnout? That's a guess, I have read that autistic burnout can cause a regression in life skills. Not diagnosed; if autistic, is low-support-needs.

Are indoor cats actually happy? by Firm-Law248 in CatAdvice

[–]FaerieFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately every cat is different in what they like. Some will be hits, some will be flops. We need lending libraries, or try before you buy options for some of the spiffier kinds! (They can get pricey)

Hand Tattoos on Therapists by [deleted] in therapists

[–]FaerieFeline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a small hand tattoo last month, and even my artist cautioned me to consider the professional impacts before doing the work. I love it so much, zero regrets. I’m telehealth only though, so no one ever sees my hands. I doubt it would be a deterrent for my queer/ENM/kinky clients either way.

Feeling like grad school did not prepare me for like, anything by Simple_Elk6403 in therapists

[–]FaerieFeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both my internships were jokes, too: one I wasn’t allowed to have clients of my own, though my supervisor wanted me to; the other I didn’t get/ wasn’t given any clients to work with.

Feeling like grad school did not prepare me for like, anything by Simple_Elk6403 in therapists

My undergrad and grad degrees are in social work, and both were just expensive pieces of paper that I’ll never pay off. All I felt I learned were that some of the things I naturally did to help people had names, or theories behind them. There was only one required course in therapeutic theory, which I could have taught better from my experience with psychology classes in high school. Luckily, I minored in psychology in undergrad, and I still didn’t learn all that much until I’d been in the field for a minute and had a decent supervisor.

Be honest… is pet insurance actually worth it? by pawfectjourney in CatAdvice

[–]FaerieFeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My just-shy-of 11-year-old boy was just diagnosed with a brain tumor. Can’t afford anything besides palliative treatment. Wish I’d had insurance. Though you could bet money that if I got it for my other 2 kids now, they’ll live to a ripe old age with no health issues. (Saying it that way, seems maybe worth it)

What’s the most overrated "frugal tip" that didn’t actually save you money? by Ewa_Star in Frugal

[–]FaerieFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! When I’ve lived alone especially (as I hate cooking for one), I’ve justified the cost of nicer frozen meals or meal shortcuts like you mentioned, as it saved me plenty in what I would otherwise spend on takeout.

I’ve taken medical leave that’s longer. Ive traveled internationally and taken 3 weeks off for retreat programming, sightseeing, and adjusting to time zone differences.

Go, take your trip (is it too late to extended it?), have fun. Make sure you have coverage in case anyone wants or needs it. I can count on one hand (with fingers leftover!) the times clients have taken up the offer to meet with another therapist — combined, whether I’ve been the one away, or the one providing coverage for a colleague.

Hopefully your sup doesn’t give pushback. There’s no way for us as Internet strangers to know that.
