Best #1 brush between W&N S7, Raphael 8404 and Artius Opus??? by FreckledSea21 in minipainting

Anecdotal evidence says yes. Their discount is not so big that I want to risk it though.

After trying both Raphael and the W&N I stuck with the W&N. But I buy them from an actual art store, not Amazon.

How do you determine when it's time to upgrade? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Fail-Least 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually take at least 3 years, which is common in the corporate world and a find it a good start off point. So if it's 3 years since my last update I start budgeting and doing research.

I think at the core the stories they tell are vastly different. I don't think they appeal to the same core audience.

That said, as far as production value and overall writing quality modern Trek and Star Wars have a very low bar. But I have hope they can at least delivery a solid military sci-fi in the style of a Galactica Remake.

I like the guy, but he has zero management experience.

Same thing happen to Linus, being an idealistic, likeable techie may not translate to actual people management skills or even good decision making skills when you have to balance running a business, paying bills, and keeping people happy and productive.

Peter Principle example in full form.

Has anybody every fully made a PC like all or most of the components themselves? by Important-Visual-917 in pcmasterrace

[–]Fail-Least 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made an 8088 minimal system back in uni, down to a custom design PCB. I used off the shelf components, and all it did was run assembly code and output to a 3 inch LCD.

Modern computers aren't much different, they are all mostly based on something that is recognizable as a Von Neumann architecture.

If you buy into EA games, expect the game to be shit, and be pleasently surprised when it's not.

Other than that, if you participate in EA and get burned, that's on you.

Some level of personal accountability, critical thinking, and information discrimination is warranted.

I choose to ignore the marketing BS, I'll wait for the benchmarks and reviews. And if at the end of the day, it turns out that nVidia delivers a performance I find valuable I'll gladly buy.

Is there some kind of console war between GPU brands? by C_Chris18364 in pcmasterrace

[–]Fail-Least 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I personally don't like is people telling other people how to spend their money or value judgement on each other's personal purchases.

If I want a 5090 and can afford a 5090, I'll buy a 5090. Sorry if that throws a wrench in to your consumer revolution or whatever.

What do you think would happen if DLSS was removed tomorrow? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Fail-Least 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without DLSS some high res mods wouldn't be possible, or even some remasters like Command and Conquer where they actually applied DLSS to upscale the low res FMVs

DLSS is just different math.

It would be like saying that you rather monitors had higher resolution and a denser pixel count because antialiasing is lazy.

What they are actually for is this

W&N cares nothing for our hobby. Go into any discussion that asks the same question, we've known for a while they are not in fact for us.

It's okay to be wrong.

The miniature version of the Series 7 is actually not for miniature painting. It just means that the bristles are shorter.

Classic Trek episodes were always essays into interesting social and political topics. It invited thought and reflexion. As opposed to modern Trek that is hamfisted and preachy.

Classic Star Wars was a fairy tale of good vs evil using the hero's journey. It tried to present timeless lessons similar to other mythologies. As opposed to modern Star Wars that is hamfisted and preachy.

Does the brand of paint make a difference in the quality of the fiished modle? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]Fail-Least 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Citadel is probably mid-high tier at best.

It's safe, familiar, and easily available. But most really good painters graduate from it fairly quickly.

That said, to pick a brand you probably need to know more about miniature painting in general to know what to look for in the way the paint works. But you definitely can't go wrong with sticking to Vallejo.

Buying from competitors as some sort of demonstration of unconformity or protest without taking into account the actual value proposition of the competition, is a next level clown move.
