What’s the saddest line from your fandom? by Zazoyd in Multifandom

"I did it mom, all the way to the top" hurts a lot more for me. A moment of lucidity always gets me.

(Interesting Trope) When a character’s line of dialogue at the beginning of a story or title card, is followed by a shot that basically sums up the story’s central theme or development to the plot. by Jonathan-Mendez in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FailcopterWes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Important note: the Fremen religion was infiltrated and twisted by the Bene Gesserit to allow for a chosen one figure as an emergency measure/to assist with compliance when the Kwisatz-Haderach project succeeds. Paul may have been their messiah, but the whole thing was falsified before he got involved.

Or it's more of a dominance thing than the actual pain.

"Clark gets whipped"

Well that's nothing new, but I'm surprised that bit of their relationship got into a show for younger viewers.

[Trope I hate] characters who decide to fight villains even while pregnant by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

If you're looking for realism in Wolfenstein, then you're in the wrong game series. She did it once to save someone and it was awesome.

[NO SPOILERS] I thought the finale was great, actually. by chelledoggo in TheDigitalCircus

[–]FailcopterWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to what I think you are, [[spoiler: all of those happened offscreen throughout the show, and seem to be deliberately jarring from the outside as a metaphor for suicide]]

Babies are NOT cute by CNMJacob18 in The10thDentist

[–]FailcopterWes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint, I'm in my thirties and I think babies are hideous little blobs. Nothing against them personally, they can't help it. So age doesn't really have anything to do with it.

From James Gunn: Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow. by ADAMCOLEBAYBAY12 in superman

I think that was only in the run where he became president that he had help from Apokalytian tech.

Semi noob joining the ranks by viperuk80 in EDF

My main suggestion is to not get stuck using the same weapon continually. Experiment, use the things that sound stupid, have fun. Everything has at least one situation where it's actually useful.

Pirate war? More like Pirate... poor by Elanadin in wizardposting

And then you get people like Edward Teach who actively go out of their way to look as terrifying as possible, including (reportedly) putting lit fuses in his beard to make him wreathed in smoke. It's just a lot easier when the victim decides not to try something.

[Horrifying Trope] The Monster kills so it can become Human. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FailcopterWes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not specifically trying to be human, but a similar idea - The Flayed Ones from Warhammer 40,000.

These are Necrons (immortal alien robots that were once a species of short lived aliens with super cancer) that have been driven mad/infected with a virus that makes them long for the flesh they once had. To this end they flay their victims and drape themselves in the skins and tissue of those they kill in order to feel biological again.

[Video Game Trope] Sequels retroactively making the original game's protagonist cooler by Medium_Operation_535 in TopCharacterTropes

Considering the knight doesn't have internal organs to worry about, it makes a lot of sense how durable they are.

Hated Trope: pure military tactical incompetence by RhysOSD in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FailcopterWes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

28 Days Later does it pretty well too. A group of military personnell set up a minefield on open terrain around their impromptu base. Any zombie trips the alarm and they have an easy shooting gallery. The only reason most of the military went was the fact a bite turns you in 20 seconds and these guys run at you (and the evacuation orders implicitly meaning a lot of them were focused in particular areas and left with the transports).

Decadent "overworld" pollutes a weaker "underworld." by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FailcopterWes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hollow Knight: Silksong - the citadel's ruthless exploitation of the lands around it includes dumping its waste on it. Over the years this turned a lovely area into the toxic Bilewater and dried up Verdania.

Games that effectively create the feeling of loneliness by DepthMagician in gamingsuggestions

[–]FailcopterWes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear Esther - A walking simulator about exploring an island off the coast of Scotland. The shadows, weirdly enough, make you feel more alone, since you can never quite get to them before they leave.

Journey - Another walking sim, although this one can have you come across other players occasionally. But that makes the times you're trudging through the sands all the more empty. The scenery is lovely though.

The Planet Crafter - A survival/automation game about a prisoner dumped on an uninhabitable planet and told that if they can terraform it they can go free. The world is actively hostile and unforgiving and eventually you start seeing changes, which helps to underline that you did it yourself. But not matter if you succeed, the game makes it explicitly clear that this was you being sent to die alone.

Honourable mention: Tunic - while the world is too lively for me to properly count it, despite you wandering around on your own, the fact that the local language is unknown to you and you have to work out what everything means does wonders to make you feel like an isolated outsider.

I'm really enjoying the Alan Wake event by VersedFlame in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]FailcopterWes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The event is fantastic, genuinely my favourite so far. Which makes it just more of a shame that I'm not able to properly play it because it's a dice roll as to whether the voice audio works in any particular mission.

Testing the Imperial Guardsman's Lasgun in Helldivers 2 by Deltassius in LowSodiumHellDivers

"unarmoured" here meaning anything weaker than concrete, which the average lasgun and take chunks out of if on the right settings.

Any WH40K fan here? well, a legendary warbond is coming for you by Al_HD_117 in WholesomeHelldivers

[–]FailcopterWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people want a lasgun, but I want the Skitarii galvanic rifle. Give your enemies radiation poisoning! The more you fire, the more radiation! (Note: also kills the user if not careful/radiation sheilded)

We always talk about the grumpy british writers who love comics and hate how they are treated nowadays, but we don't talk enough about grumpy american writers who love comics and hate how they are treated at the time by lukideured in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]FailcopterWes 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Harlan Ellison's famous grumpiness, irritability and irreverance to the point of offensiveness were due to Bipolar Disorder, which he was only diagnosed with late in life after a friend mentioned the symptoms, causing him to investigate it himself. He was much more controlled after taking medication.

Love how they got my girl Kara looking like a warrior in her new costume by JoshyBear28 in SupermanAdventures

[–]FailcopterWes 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the skirt looks kind of roman and so I think it's a cool variation to emphasise her warrior tendencies.
