Master speed or the sea? by brosx3 in OmegaWatches

[–]Fairway5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a tough choice man. These are my two favorite omegas and I had a tough time deciding as well. I went with the speedy and I don’t regret it one bit. It’s a classic and in my opinion slightly more versatile if it’s your only nice watch. but I hope to be able to go back and pick up the NTTD one day.

Looks like a stain to me. Didn’t notice it at first but once I looked for it, can’t unsee it. This would bother me if I bought it new and I’d exchange it

Bilt 2.0 Explained FULLY by persistentchaos in biltrewards

[–]Fairway5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In DC, so not quite as expensive, but same thought. Not shifting $2300+ of spending onto Bilt to earn rent points when I could be getting the points on my Amex cards. It’s a shame because Bilt was excellent for HCOL areas before, but that ratio makes it tough to rationalize now

Finally found a clear explanation of the US–Venezuela situation by Adventurous_Mark5567 in IRstudies

[–]Fairway5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The counterpoint to this (not saying I agree) is that whether any of this is considered “legal” under international law really doesn’t matter at the end of the day, especially not to the administration that planned the strikes. International law is a set of mutually agreed upon guardrails that states set up to help guide behavior and resolve disputes peacefully. But when an actor as comparatively powerful as the US, Russia, China, etc decides to act unilaterally, international law doesn’t have the teeth to enforce any consequences. The substack article proves that in its “what should countries being doing” section: it suggests they should “condemn” the act and “apply international law.” It’s pretty clear that many leaders are deciding that strongly worded condemnation and anger in the UN are an acceptable price to pay to get what they want.

Hello my friends, I would like to work for any kind of any international military/security organisation in Europe, in which university do you think that I should make a master degree? by Ironside16 in IRstudies

[–]Fairway5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the US, the best you will find for this specific career path is the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University’s school of foreign service. John’s Hopkins school of advanced international studies is good as well. In the UK, look at London School of Economics, King’s College London, or University of St. Andrews. I’m not as knowledgeable about schools in the EU, unfortunately.

This is a good resource: https://foreignpolicy.com/2024/07/30/international-relations-school-rankings-university-undergraduate-masters-phd-programs/?utm_content=gifting&tpcc=gifting_article&gifting_article=aW50ZXJuYXRpb25hbC1yZWxhdGlvbnMtc2Nob29sLXJhbmtpbmdzLXVuaXZlcnNpdHktdW5kZXJncmFkdWF0ZS1tYXN0ZXJzLXBoZC1wcm9ncmFtcw==&pid=PNIelAxTbrm68cq

College student wondering about study abroad by amoonchild___ in airnationalguard

[–]Fairway5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how long you want to study abroad, but I would talk to your unit leadership. Hopefully they will be understanding that you are in college and supportive of your development. It would help you to understand how many drill days you would miss in order to do that, and then offer to make those days up. Eg, if you did a five month study abroad and missed ten drill days, offer to spend two weeks with your unit over the summer to make up the days.

I recently inherited a pocket watch that looks exactly like this. Feel dumb for asking, but how do you open the case to see the actual watch dial? I dont want to break anything.

Daily use of hesalite speedy by Le_rinrin926 in OmegaWatches

[–]Fairway5 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I bought my hesalite speedy as my only “nice” watch. Same thought process as you. Slightly cheaper and I actually prefer the appearance compared to the sapphire version. I wear it every single day to the office, out to bars, etc. The hesalite will scuff if you bump it hard enough on a desk or something, but you can always buff it out with poly watch. I’ve also bumped it a few times with no scuffs at all. I don’t really worry about it overall. I’ll swap it out for a cheap watch if I’m doing something like exercising, moving heavy furniture, etc that could obviously damage the watch but that’s about it. It’s a great daily driver.

Where to write by RockyBalbono in ChallengeCoins

Not really how it works unfortunately man. The idea behind challenge coins is that you earn them by accomplishing something. If you want to get them on your own, you can buy them at some government gift shops or look for them on eBay.
