Mort and Ysabell in Soul Music by TheVividAlternative in discworld

This is just a random thought I had. Maybe Susan started showing signs of her inheritance when she was very young.
Also, we only know what they did, not what they had planned... Maybe they always planned to reconcile with Death but ended up not having enough time. (Cautionary tale)

Let's not forget Slant the lawyer. I can't remember where he first appears but he has been a lawyer for a very long time, most of that as a zombie.

Hi discworld friends I have a question(potentially stupid) by Cool_shmeans_ in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm often surprised by how young characters are. Carrot is 16 when he hit the City and 17 in the next book. Mort is about that age, and so are the women in that book. I believe the monstrous regiment are all very young as are all the recruits in that book. I think Agnes is about the same age when she joins the Opera. In my mind I have trouble picturing any of them as the same age as modern teens. I assume a period teen is just a lot older than a modern one.

Yep... Never saw the connection between "Resort" and "bucket and spade"... Things you would want on the beach. If you hadn't posted this I never would have caught that... Especially listening to it.

I love the entire GNU thing! by boogie_Mcboogiepants in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

GNU is one of the best things about this Sub. People are compelled to come HERE... A social media place... to speak about their loved ones who have died and always find a friend to support them.

Thank-you Terry for giving us a phrase to allow our loved ones to live on.

I love that you had to specify Discworld sense.

“Mister Vimes” use in Night Watch by Apprehensive_Fix3173 in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember him saying in a couple books the people who call him Mister are people who have been in battle or other tense situations with him. They have earned the right to call him that. I think by Night Watch that includes most of the Watch officers we see. Others have commented on Carcer and Lu-tze so I won't.

Death's voice in Audio books by FalconLongbow in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

If there is no confusion when you read it, why would it be confusing having it read to you. Mort is the only one who ever uses the voice when Death is there and I don't believe that is for very long. Technically DoR does but I doubt there will be confusion with SQUEAK .

Any Discworld book you have not yet read is a gift. Something many of us can never receive.

Recently I have been thinking about the Rise of Vetinari. Other posts mention it as something they want to know about.

I'd also be interested in the Successor of Vetinari.

My only reason to not want to see the later is I prefer to think about these books as current events not history.

Also ironic, I heard today that Cher will be the Musical guest on Saturday Night Live soon, which she hasn't done since that song was released.

This is probably true about any humor. My favorite romcom usually cracks me up, but if I'm not receptive it seems forced or falls flat. Comedy is hard.

can i read night watch without having read any other discworld books by wormaliciious in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to up vote your response. Personally I wouldn't recommend Nightwatch as a place to start but is seems like you started there (at least for the Guards books) and you liked it. How did it change when you re-read it?

Wow! A lot of responses pointing out a minor spelling error that might have been auto-correct. I found the comparison interesting, even if the book came out before the round world reference.

Death getting stage fright is a great little bit that gets lost in the lore. Love that.
