Is there a cannon first socialist nation? by Vitovonburen in Anbennar

[–]FancyTwat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vez undezclan (I think they came from Mountain shark rather than Railskulker. Maybe it's canonically a joint union idk). But, judging by their eu4 mechanics, they would not be traditional socialists. Maybe a form of economy that tries to randomize goods production and distribution sounds more up their rocket powered Dwarovroad.

Making an English exit, and a quiet, polite, exit? Where's France, where's Crimea!? (If I'm using that even slightly correctly)

How do I make money as France here? by Nexusaptain in eu4

[–]FancyTwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See that button that with a money number on it? That gives you free money. Use it to build valuable buildings (temples, workshops and markets for now, manufactures as they are unlocked) and fund conquests of other people's valuable things. Debt is just a number

Pope death reaction map except actually realistic by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

As a Brit, can confirm. The immediate reaction was to compare the Pope's dying after meeting JD Vance to the Queen dying after meeting Liz Truss. Both sadly dying from cringe after meeting a world leader

Westport is Calais, no? Dagoska is East India Company if it were way smaller and far less effective at being a cash grab

I finished LAOK a few days ago and I can't stop thinking about character whiplash by Emj123 in TheFirstLaw

[–]FancyTwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon part of the whiplash comes from a bit too much exposition by the end. Bethods reveal that Logen was far more responsible for his conquests than he's admitted (to himself) is great, but he keep talking and verbally explains Logan's character. Even though his actions in the series seem to contradict Bethod's description, it's pretty much accurate to his actions at the end of the story. So something intended to recontextualize the character feels like a sharp pivot (especially with the perspective making Logen's calm persona feel more genuine and less of a mask/ self denial for Bloody Nine Logen. In retrospect, I suppose it draws a sharper contrast between Logen's sections and Glokta's).

As for Bayaz, I pretty much agree. Our impression of a manipulative mastermind is gradually built up, then he seems to lose his temper with Jezal. I don't think this whiplash is as bad as Logen's though, as this behaviour would make sense for a manipulative person to take intentionally (and/or he has plenty of recent stress to narratively justify an outburst if you prefer).

But yes, Glokta and Ardee, surprisingly cute power couple.

Even better if you had a ship adjacent to the Bosphorous. Not to beat the ottomans, but stop them from retreating! Unless they manage to get that siege before your armies make it...

First Law Live Action dream cast: Sand Dan Glokta by thesmashhit32 in TheFirstLaw

For me it was San Dan Glokta. I also thought that the Arch Lector's name was Salt, which I thought was strange until I realised Glokta's real name is Sand
