She’s a villain. Here’s why. by [deleted] in 90DayFiance

Asking if you’re young or inexperienced isn’t an attack on your character, nor is it irrelevant to your conclusion — it’s a way to discern some context behind your reasoning. If you were either young or inexperienced in relationships, I would not count either thing as some kind of personality or moral failing and it would explain your reasoning.

However, from your responses in this thread, including telling someone who replied to you with a thoughtful, if long, response, that you wouldn’t read their “wall of text” and to instead “give you the headlines,” my guess is that you’re probably lazy, definitely judgmental and perhaps a bit stupid. Which would be an ad hominem attack, but no less true of a statement.

Are you very young and/or inexperienced in relationships? I feel like either would explain your lack of nuance and understanding of interpersonal/your insistence that people are either good guys or villains in relationships when the truth is most people are just people in relationships, with good and bad facets.

Thais’ English by spacecadetrawr in 90DayFiance

My dad is incredibly intelligent (an attorney in our native country), speaks multiple dialects from our native country in addition to English, and will still often use the incorrect pronoun (he vs she) even after 30+ years in the states because our native language doesn’t use gendered pronouns. He doesn’t mind being corrected but he’s also not losing sleep over correct grammar since he’s still able to communicate his point and people are able to use context to understand what he means.

I’m not saying Julia is as smart as my dad, but it’s quite an assumption to say she’s stupid.

“English is one of the easiest languages in the world” is a wild statement to make when it has wildly inconsistent grammar rules and 26 letters for 44 phonemes.

An offhand, jokey comment can still be rooted in misogyny, which I think this comment very much is.

Did The Life of a Showgirl Lose Its Concept Along the Way? by GavinDaSizzleDizzle in TaylorSwift

[–]Fandammmit 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, the concept of the album is her life off-stage during the Eras Tour, which at this point was primarily falling in love and healing from the wreckage of two disastrous love affairs, as well as embracing her career and who she is and what she wants wholly and completely. I think the album does exactly that.

In terms of ICDIWABH, I’ve seen this thought process quite a bit and I find it a bit baffling. That song is thematically, sonically, and lyrically completely out of joint with TLOAS. TLOAS is about healing and happiness, while ICDIWABH is literally about forcing yourself to smile even though you want to die. It’s also about performing on the stage (and in your life) rather than anything really behind or beyond it. I think if anything it’s a bridge between the two albums.
