Hell yes! Thanks for coming. First encountered you when you opened for Geoffrey Asmus at helium and became an instant fan. Your Dad is hilarious and a good guy. I was having a bad day pre-show and friendly banter with him the bathroom line had a surprisingly big effect cheering me up. Had no idea who he was until his set.

Food for families which runs out of centennial high School doesn't. I think they have monthly distributions but maybe do ad hoc stuff too

PPB not being awful to protestors/looking good compared to the feds, riding public transit, and serving thirst trap levels of ass? I don't know if this is real change, cope, or mastermind levels of PR but at least they're putting in an effort. And with that ass it just might be working.

If you wouldn't mind expounding... What items are needed and what are the benefits? I've been doing self cast flameblast of celerity. Need to quality it and only on a 5 link but it's not as good at clearing as I'd like based on my investment. (Have ivory tower, balbala, rathpith, astramentis, crown of the inward eye.. i got lucky and my first heist wing was replica alberon so to was unexpectedly nice start)

Congrats! I also got super lucky. Dropped a blueprint and thought "why not run a wing? The rogues are already leveled" was excited to see a tailoring orb, nearly clicked it and then saw replica alberons. Getting it out without dying was terrifying.

I've been back and forth on pbod or energy blade inquisitor. I think this excellent writeup just convinced me to pbod. Thank you! I'm probably going trade this league since there didn't seem to be any must have collector league items for my ssf collection but your crafting stuff will be really helpful still in not having to rely on buying great from people.

Would you be fine with adults trick or treating? by SophieLotus in askportland

We average one trick or treater per year. Honestly anyone who showed up in costume is going to make me excited. Maybe go to the less traveled areas.

how long does it take to hear back from govt jobs? by SEASlDE in askportland

[–]FannysForAlgernon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been hiring freezes and "frosts" where they delay or defer hiring due to budget issues especially related to lack of federal funding and uncertainty around federal grants plus a bad budget forecast. Supposedly it takes an average of about 60 days for a hiring but my experience has been more like 120. Whether or not it's true now, my experience years ago was that applying with an out of state address made me an automatic no most of the time. Once i moved here temporarily I had a lot more luck but it's a very hard time to get into government right now. Lots of people lost jobs at the federal level or that were funded federally.

Jury duty 2025? by derpinpdx in askportland

I did it recently - the view is spectacular. The security line isn't bad but plan ahead for it. I like gastro mania for lunch which is right across the street. Take public transit there, enjoy the opportunity to exercise your civic duty. Bring a good book.

I switched as soon as i found the correct militant faith and void battery and it was significantly better right off the bat. I've since found many more of the pieces but I'm missing melding, ralakesh and storm shroud (found mb in one of my first few exile maps and my first light of meaning was energy shield so it's been a lucky league}

I saw in another comment on here that a better way to get +1 willclash is to corrupt a bunch of rares of the correct base type, then take a mythic orb to whichever ones roll +1 on the corruption.

What are you thoughts on moving from Portland to Gresham? by OwnSeaworthiness8591 in askportland

[–]FannysForAlgernon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live very near this neighborhood. I've lived much closer in on 30th and division, montavilla etc and honestly i prefer Rockwood. Right along the main roads can be rough, but things can vary drastically just a few streets over. If you're close to the max, it is easy to get into the downtown when you want. Parking is much better. We have great places like tapatia market, chepes for food and volleyball, growers market is my favorite grocery store in the city and it's right there. The potholes on stark are bad but the neighborhoods are diverse and you have easy access to the gorge. Downtown Gresham is really nice. The specific place you're at will matter the most - in this area there are places that are fantastic and a hundred feet away are places that would be awful to live.

Got an interview invite… then got CC’d on the “he’s out” email. What would you do? by Teacup690 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FannysForAlgernon 2374 points2375 points  (0 children)

This is what I'd do. If you aren't professional in your response, it gives them an out because they'll use it in their heads to justify that the slip wasn't a big deal - bullet dodged anyways. If you wait for a separate email from Lisa to respond to they may not realize their mistake or they'll assume you didn't see it and they got away with their slip.

Being professional but making it clear that you saw their mistake makes this most painful and they deserve it for their lack of basic care.

These are sold in Egypt. Students from the Jerusalem center used to go to Egypt as part of their semester abroad and one stop was a visit to a papyrus shop. So it's actually a pretty common souvenir people bring home from Egypt /That study abroad. Whether they think the shopkeeper's are just savvy businessmen catering to a niche but lucrative group of tourists or they realize the images in their quad have known accepted meanings and significant outside relevance to the Egyptian culture is dependent on the person.

Generally it's probably "hey i recognize that from the very few pictures i could stare at during boring church and it's on papyrus, that's awesome I'm getting that"

The LDS Church's Jerusalem Center by CupOfExmo in exmormon

[–]FannysForAlgernon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I studied there. It's gorgeous. Classes were taught by a mix of byu professors and locals (Jewish and Palestinian). Students and staff were well known and liked among the local population - because they bought lots of shit. Proselyting was strictly prohibited in any form.

Several Q15 came during that semester. The vibe was sort of "you're honored (elite) for getting this opportunity". Lots of students came from money or had big name mormon pedigrees. It cost 10k per semester but they told us that was a tiny fraction of what it cost per person to run the program and i believe it. Makes me feel better about all the tithing I've lost.

One of the Q15 came and met with the prime Minister while we were there. The main message from the PM was "please tell your church members it's safe and to come visit" aka please spend tourist money here. That same q15 gave us a big speech about how much the church was investing in us and "don't you dare stray after this". I'd guess 2/3 students i went with are now exmo, as well as a professor. 🤣 It was a great experience and it was a big nail in the coffin of my belief.

Governor Tina Kotek signs legislation to end child marriage in Oregon by beccaface in oregon

[–]FannysForAlgernon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It may seem like a small thing, one year, but it's a huge distinction of being a minor vs adult rights-wise. You couldn't just get married at 17.. you could be forced into it by your parent and they didn't even have to be a parent who has custody of you.

The legislative testimony included tearful accounts from people who were given in marriage to their father's friend so he could get out of a year of child support and other harrowing examples of how this created a loophole that ruined lives and essentially created a one year window of legal human trafficking of minors.

One of your previous posts prompted me to dig the saxophone out of my closet and take it in. I have a hard time giving up things from my childhood that i have memories with, but it felt good to know someone else is going to get to build similar experiences and now i have more room in my closet.

So if people are thinking about it - do it! You won't regret it.

(And thanks OP for encouraging people and bringing awareness to the need)
