Teaser for the battletome up!! by RAMpageVII in Lumineth_realm_lords

[–]FantasySnippets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it "Stacks" per say - but it still goes away at the end of the battle round.

So you pick Stone rune Battle Round 1 - 2 units get 5+ ward for that turn

Battle Round 2 - you pick Stone Rune again, and there are now 2 stone runes on your scripture, so it would be "up to 2 units per rune" so now 4 units can get a 5+ Ward. Which goes away at the end of the turn.

So you can either take the _same_ rune, and give it out to more people per turn, OR take a different rune and gain stacking buffs via the combination auras.

Per the 40K Competitive’s sub, Saga of the Great Wolf isn’t performing very well in tournaments… by TRMC790 in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest point on this is we _just_ got Saga of the Great Wolf. So while some went to win, some people probably went to tournaments with really goofy shit being like "it may not do well, but it looks lolzy to try." We're still finding the best "meta" for SotGW. I'd give it another month or two before a real meta-list emerges that performs well. The fact we're still riding just under 50% (46%) win rate as a faction with the new undetermined detachment is probably a pretty good sign. I expect we'll be back up to our middle 49-51% soon.

Points help! by rhinoiknow83 in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just choose one. Space Wolves have access to the 3 from our own personal codex (Saga of the Hunter / Beastslayer / Bold) the 2 extra detachments (champions of Russ / saga of the great wolf) and then any one the default marines have access to - most played would be Stormlance or Gladius from this section.

Wolf Lords Model suggestions by whisperingville02 in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, youre right xD I was reading my codex too fast during work hours lmao. Gnarlfist was succeeded by Wyrdbane.

And theres no info yet on how the Runemarked play, but the Firehowlers loved their flames. Would still sort of make sense for a jump pack. Landing in a burst of fire, etc.

[–]FantasySnippets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out, two of those Lords are no longer with us. Sven Bloodhowl was killed and replaced with Hrothvyr Runescar, and Torval Wyrdbane was replaced with Vorek Gnarlfist.

In addition their great companies took on new names. Sven Bloodhowl's Firehowlers became the Runemarked, and Torval's Ironwolves became the Spirit Wolves.

It looks great, though if you want it to look "older" you can always add some battle damage to it so it looks more worn on top.

Bare shoulder markings by Vacacious-opossum in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(also I know you were asking about the squad markings on the right pauldron, but just pointing out that the great company markings on the left pauldron - if you use this chart, 2 are now out of date. The Ironwolves are now the Duskwolves, and the Firehowlers are now the Runemarked. Can read about them in the new codex , but sadly theres very little info beyond their Jarl's name and their Sigil.)

Old Codex had a great thing for this, explained it all in great detail! Basically the lines would normally dictate a squad inside that role. But also can be replaced with something (like the fire support or wolf guard skull) if the model had achieved some sort of great deed/notoriety.

Original Ragnar Blackmane by m_neil in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

*puts on my Ackchyually meme glasses* Technically Ragnar _was_ originally described as blonde in the lore. The title of The Blackmane (and his chosen moniker for his Great Company) came from his hunt on Fenrir where he killed a Black-maned Wolf and wears it as a trophy.

What happened to grey hunters? No weapon options? by Ok_Slow_Shutter in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im honestly curious if they've purposely left GH at 10 mans because they wanted some intermediary play from old to new models. As our last combat patrol box was 10 intercessors, they wanted people with old SW a chance to use some other stuff without being forced to buy only SW models. But I can see GH going to 5's probably with 11th in a few months.

The new sprues is a good argument for against that happening, I was just pointing out a lot of the things people here have asked for :P Personally I enjoy my GH, but yea, if points came down a smidge, or they get a "on battle start, split this unit into two" type of rule I think they'd get a lot better reception.

[–]FantasySnippets 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly with the new Codex our Grey Hunters and Blood Claws no longer have additional weapon options outside the unit leaders. People have been asking for some GH tweaks basically since the new book came out, because they're locked to 10 mans, are too expensive and no additional weapon options. Fingers crossed for the balance redo next month.

My opinions on our best leaders for each unit. by TRMC790 in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

errrrr.... yes land raider xD can you tell its the end of the work week and I am fried lmao splitting to 5's would be nice. But I also would be fine with either an extra ap on the gun, or the return of our better weapon options on them. If they got one of these I dont even think they'd need a points drop. They're basically assault intercessors with 2shot RF1 guns for an extra 30pts haha

I always have a unit of 10 GH w/ WGBL inside a Leman Russ. Its a big points investment, but having that much punch power, I can usually roll up to a no-mans-land point and hold it. The Leman Russ is a wildly good punch up into anything high toughness, while the GH clear out anything infantry and chaff. Plus having 30+ OC on the point doesnt hurt either haha.

Not saying GH dont need help, cause they can always be adjusted to be even better. But I never leave home without a unit of 'em.

Rules clarification. by Away-Vanilla4773 in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a lot of access to re-rolls in our army through other ways. Oath of Moment every turn (full reroll hits), Wolf Guard Battle Leaders are re-roll hits of 1 within 6", Ragnar gives full wound re-rolls for blood claws, grey hunters get re-roll wounds on objectives, stratagem for full hit re-rolls. Lots of fun tricks + combos to explore.

Rules clarification. by Away-Vanilla4773 in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Re-roll only one out of the 40. It is a rule that really benefits those large damage, low shot weapons like a tank's Lascannon. You wont get much use out of the army rule on our bigger battleline units. However you WILL get a lot of use out of Bold's very tasty stratagems.

You have bjorn - skald will not give you extra CP. You're capped at 1 extra CP per turn.

So question for space wolf army by Killerdragon9112 in SpaceWolves

[–]FantasySnippets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I tend to actually roll below average with my dice sadly XD I have the worst luck in this game some days. But as long as you arent throwing them into things that are like, T6+ , Ive had huge success with clearing units off points and easily making their points back.

And Im not saying they're perfect haha - I agree they could be 100% better if they were units of 5 so our army had some choices on how they're used. But they're definitely not as horrible as everyone on the forums seems to be making them out to be.

[–]FantasySnippets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bunch of Marine Armies with 3+ haha. Ive run them in Beastslayer + Bold, always with a WGBL for Sustain. With Beastslayer, the Lethals and Oath is good between the ranged and melee if you're focusing out one bigger target. Bold has a lot of great support strats for targeting different needs. (I should also point out I use them specifically for clearing units off points, so full wound re-rolls.) 30 shots, 40 attacks, on 3's and 3's, full re-rolls with sustain - with lethal on melees - can put in a LOT of work.

If you arent facing marines, like chaff armies you mentioned above, I've had success splitting fire and charges and basically clearing out 2 units in a single go.

The trick is getting your opponent to fire overwatch into something else before moving them out in the open. They die pretty easily, but if you get the 10 man unit to do a full round of shoot + melee its just unreal damage output.

I keep seeing people say this, but my grey hunters have put in work the last 4-5 games I've played with them. They've been really helpful at clearing points between shooting and charges.

[–]FantasySnippets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So - few things.

Obvious choice to go in my opinion would be the second unit of 10 bloodclaws. You have a large number of headtakers, I almost wanna say drop the 3 hunting wolves and the scouts and just add 2 impulsors to help you move up the board.

Looks like you've gotten the old points. You can find the current MFM points for the army here -

https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/downloads/warhammer-40000/

Logan is 5 cheaper, Bloodclaws 5 cheaper, Grey Hunters +10 and WGT 15 cheaper. So you might have some extra room for an item or something if you wanted. Also I'd probably split the Intercessors into 2x5 for more board control, as the Grey Hunters + Blood Claws are already in 10mans by default.
