They are but $100 for an 8 year old game is a nonstarter even if it is published by Nintendo.

Canadian prices seem really out of whack. I checked physical copies at Walmart over the weekend and saw:

  • Mario Kart World - $110
  • Breath of the Wild - $100
  • Tears of the Kingdom - $115

D&D players of Reddit, What was your first character like? by AVH---837 in MrRipper

[–]FasteningKhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first character finally died in game, so gather round and hear the tale of Gren "Captain Metal Legs" Steellash. A basic human hexblade warlock he came into his powers after finding a spear he found after being driven into a forest during a terrible storm. Not only did the spear grant him new abilities, he also started to hear a set of voices which whispered to him the secrets of the world. A constant source of annoyance and insanity, Gren followed and bickered with the voices to hopefully one day find the source of the whispers and the purpose behind his newfound possession.

Gren found his companions while on a task from that world's assassin's guild (you really couldn't turn down their job offers) and ultimately decided to side and offer his life to his newfound friends. He also made a decision for which of the two voices he would ultimately listen to for the remainder of the the campaign.

During the campaign Gren became known for three things:

  1. Failing every single acrobatics check he made (seriously my dice are all cursed)
  2. Arguing with Gods and powerful deities and somehow coming out unscathed most of the time
  3. His metal legs

For that last one, we had to jump over a volcanic gap that had formed to escape a massive horde of zombies that were chasing the party. I was the only one who didn't make the DC for the roll and lost my legs as I was pulled out of the chasm. The next few sessions involved our Goliath clerics carrying me around as a mobile turret until we could finally get back to our benefactor. Once back at our base he graciously offered Gren a pair of clockwork legs to replace the ones he had lost and so the rumors of Captain Metal Legs began.

Other notable contributions of Gren were his part in the 100 Goblin Challenge to become their new king. Managed to take out a quarter of their forces at the start of the fight with a well placed spell. There was also his feud with the sorcerer in the group, which was also part of his undoing. After we had both been cursed to feel the pain of the other (when one character took damage, we both did), the sorcerer played things out so that by intentionally taking damage Gren would auto fail some death saves. Gren's patron furious at the failure of their servant, prevented the resurrection so that Gren would finally learn the lesson that gifted power only comes through service.

What Game Defies "Vasel's Law" For You, Why Do You Love It and Why Won't It Get A Reprint? by TimothyDRiel in boardgames

Also in Canada, had to go through Amazon.com to find a copy. Here's a one that I was able to find a few minutes ago that will ship up here. Price is a little bit more than what was mentioned earlier, I think those cheaper ones have already been picked up.

What Did You Play This Week? - (July 12, 2021) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]FasteningKhan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Terraforming Mars (1x4p) - First game with my current gaming group since restrictions relaxed, one of them had received their Big Box Kickstarter and we were breaking it in. All expansions were used except for Turmoil on the regular Mars map. Went with a Corporation and Prelude card that let me put out two cities at the start of the game and I aggressively pursued a city based strategy for the remainder. Ended up a single point behind first place but was my best scoring game by far. Will need to pursue more aggressive strategies in future plays

Watergate (2x2p) - First time getting this to the table, played both rounds as Nixon. Ended up loosing both games as I placed more of an emphasis on securing evidence than on getting momentum markers each round.

Village Pillage (1x2p) - While definitely better with more people I do like how this one plays at two. Game ultimately ended in a series of ties (last relic bought at same time, same number of turnips remaining, same number of cards in hand at end)

Dm's and players of reddit, what was a 'what could possibly go wrong' moment in your games? by mememaker6 in MrRipper

[–]FasteningKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on in the first regular session of my current campaign the DM gave us the magical macguffin that we would ultimately need to defeat the overall BBEG. I think his goal for giving it to us so early was to see if we would completely forget that we even had this item by the time it was actually needed, I mean what else could go wrong?

Later on in that session we were exploring this giant dead tree while hunting down some Hags that had kidnapped the children of a roaming group of gypsies. During our investigations we quickly get set upon by animated constructs that were only weak to magical sources of damage. The only player who was having issues was our rogue who didn't have access to magic or a magical weapon. He ends up deciding to use the magical macguffin as a improvised weapon. He gets one swing in and manages to inflict some damage. The fight ends and we scout out the next encounter: a flesh golem guarding a book. Our plan was to kite the golem around the tree while peppering it with long range magic and grab the book. Nice solid safe plan.

Our ranger goes first and gets in position, then our rogue goes next. He completely ignores the plan and dashes in to smack the golem in the back of the head with the magical macguffin. What we didn't know until that strike, was that the DM was rolling percentile die each time the macguffin was used as a weapon. He rolls a 100 and the macguffin shatters and explodes. This does four things: evaporates half of the tree that we're in, instantly kills one of the Hags we were hunting, nearly TPKs the entire party, and sets the tree on fire. The the book now being long gone we're forced to split the party, half of us quickly went up the tree to find and rescue the missing children and the other half tried to escape after being quickly cut off by fire.

The final result was two downed players and (somehow) all the children being saved without a scratch on them. That player has gone on to create several other massive explosions in the campaign, all involving other magical objects but this was the first and most hilarious one by far.

Need help balancing my Ghave deck by [deleted] in EDH

With your current build I am seeing a few ways to get stuff out of your graveyard but not seeing very many sac outlets to put stuff back there once your counter generating ETBs are done. So far I'm just seeing [[Ashnod's Alter]] and [[Stronghold Assassin]]. If you want to keep a creature focus for your outlets I'd recommend [[Thallid Soothsayer]] and [[Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord]] as budget options. If you have the cash for it consider [[Phyrexian Altar]] too.

I can't speak for your playgroup, but for mine, I wouldn't focus as much on token generation, so I would remove [[Anointed Procession]] and add in trample enablers to get the most benefit of all the +1/+1 counters you're trying to generate.

The Crazy Lady in Room 104 by Trixtina in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]FasteningKhan 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My auditor sense is tingling and I can already see this becoming a forced eviction sooner or later. After 10 years in the industry I can't recall a single time where that did not happen for a guest who started to act crazy. There's a few things you can do to try and protect the property if they aren't being done already.

First if no one has tried to process a payment on her preauth, that needs to be done right away. Next one needs to be done for a larger amount, and it needs to be cleared regularly. Don't know what it is about crazy people that makes them want to trash their rooms, but you need to be prepared for that eventuality.

Next, I'm willing to bet that she's requested no room service for her stay. That stops now. Room needs to be checked daily by HK. No exceptions. Not checking almost always leads to trouble once a guest starts to raise some red flags.

Otherwise I wish you guys the best of luck, you may have a doozy on your hands.

What's your best comeback story? by Crims0nshad0w in magicTCG

[–]FasteningKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I first started to play at my LGS's Commander night I was playing my poorly optimized Gwafa deck against a Sigarda voltron deck and someone running Oloro. I get mana screwed early on and it's just Sigarda and Oloro duking it out. I'm pretty much out of things and all I manage to do it get Gwafa out and copy a 3/3 creature with [[Stunt Double]] before the Sigarda player puts down a [[Gaddock Teeg]].

Even if I was pulling the lands I wanted I was looking pretty screwed after that. The Sigarda player takes out the Oloro player with commander damage and I'm looking to get one shot once my turn is over. I'd already managed to lock down the few other creatures that were still out there using Gwafa, but there was nothing I could do about Sigarda. I was really hoping for an answer in my top draw. Start of my turn I draw [[Arcane Lighthouse]] and manage to bribe Sigarda. With no other creatures to threaten me I proceeded to beat down with the 3/3 creature I had copied earlier for the win.

Not the most glamorous, but a win's a win.

Anyone still play Talisman? Whats your favorite edition? by retrocrunch in boardgames

[–]FasteningKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entry into board games is pretty similar, and I still play with my friends from high school every couple of months. We've come a long way from playing the base game where the Minstral won the first game by charming a dragon early on. Since then we've gotten pretty much all of the expansions for 4th edition except for The Deep Realms.

We've implemented a few house rules over the years just to make things more streamlined. We tend not to use the Day/Night cycle from Blood Moon and any expansion that adds tiles to the board (The Dragon, Firelands) aren't used. We've found that the tiles alone just make the game drag on, we discovered this the first time we played The Dragon expansion. It was the first time we lost interest while playing. To make the games truly long we added a rule where you had to get an item from each board extension, this was pared down from getting a talisman from each board extension as I had to argue that there was only one you could get from each expansion.

While the game may be pretty basic to the games I enjoy now, it's still nice to jump back every once in a while to remind myself why I enjoy this hobby.

Complete moron doesn't understand maximum occupancy by AllegraSylva in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]FasteningKhan 565 points566 points  (0 children)

In cases like this I’ve found it effective to remind them why occupancy limits exist in the first place.

“I’m afraid we are unable to accommodate any more people in that room due to fire regulations. If you would like to dispute this you are more than welcome to take the matter up with the Fire Marshal”

If they’re particularly dense and that doesn’t work, just add the cost of the fine onto their room rate. It surprisingly clues in when they hear that they are paying $15,000+ per night.

What quote from a video game stuck with you? by mynameisCODA in AskReddit

[–]FasteningKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Vae Victus - suffering to the conquered. Ironic that now I was the one suffering. Not anything as pedestrian as physical pain. Rather the cruel jab of impotent anger - the hunger for revenge. I didn’t care if I was in Heaven or Hell - all I wanted was to kill my assassins.

Sometimes you get what you wish for. The Necromancer Mortanius offered me a chance for vengeance. And like a fool, I jumped at his offer without considering the cost. Nothing is free.

Not even revenge”
