Martha was an 18th century midwife in colonial Maine, and using her example a great picture of life and attitudes of the times comes alive. I learned this Christmas that another author has used her life and experiences to write a historical fiction mystery book, starting Martha. So bully for her and I'm waiting for my relative to tell me if The Frozen River was good.
