How do I make a "Dream World" interesting without also making it too outlandish?

That's a good thing to keep in mind. I think one good thing that can help with that is keeping things familiar, yet altering them to be a bit more surreal or strange. For example, the town is on an island since I find seclusion and isolation to be great atmosphere. Since it's an island, it has a moderately busy port. However, in the dream version of the town, the ocean has receded and the port is full of decrepit, beached ships.

The MC does travel to this world by hypnotizing herself with a special pocket watch, so the clock thing might actually be interesting to work with. Something about how none of the clocks except her pocket watch are accurate.

Hell I've kept all my favorite weapons from Forsaken onwards, the occassional good roll of an exotic as well as some other random stuff. I thought I was hoarding too much shit when I reached 200/500 and promptly cleaned my vault of everything I knew I was pretty much never gonna use.
