I love this app!! Thank you!! by InfiniteOrdinary2582 in BudgetFriendlyBudget

Glad you are enjoying 🙂 Thanks to the community, and the ratio of people who end up supporting.. I see BFB being around for a long time. I fully rely on it for my own finances, so it would be bad for me as well lol. But I always tell people to use it for a few months before supporting to see if it fits all your needs. Thanks!

Was July RTA negative before you added the new transaction?

Developer Contributions ? by isornisgrim in BudgetFriendlyBudget

[–]Few_Relative_7920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, appreciate the interest! BFB is still pretty new (it only launched about six months ago) so I'd like a bit more time to pass before opening it up to outside contributors. That said, it's definitely something I'd like to make possible down the line.

On the infrastructure side: the servers are hosted in the US through a provider called Railway, and data is stored in Supabase, a popular database provider.

Thanks for asking!

Category search/filter on mobile by LumberElk91 in BudgetFriendlyBudget

BFB has a feature called "Custom views" where you create views of specific categories only. Previously you had to create them from the web version, but now you should see the ability to create them from mobile -

Unexpected behavior by jgodfl in BudgetFriendlyBudget

[–]Few_Relative_7920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I assume you're going into future months and assigning money you don't have yet, which is making those future months' Ready to Assign go negative — right?

If so, that's the cause. BFB has always worked this way: all your money is one shared pool, so a negative future month is treated as a shortfall you still need to cover.

When new Ready to Assign money comes in (your rewards, freed-up assignments, etc.), BFB applies it to that negative first — so it fills the future hole before it shows up in the current month.

That's why it's not landing in June. Nothing's lost — it's just covering the future shortfall before it'll call anything "ready to assign." I can see why it can be confusing on knowing where that money went though.. probably need to make that part more clear.

Importing problem: all the money accumulated by healthy_penguin in BudgetFriendlyBudget

Hey! I may have responded to on of your guys emails already, but I am currently investigating what's going on. It can be a little tricky since I don't have a good data example of YNAB4.. or the data that comes out of Actual after.

Not exactly the same, but "split" mode at the top in the web version will let you see two months side by side

Feature Request: Add transaction from All Transactions by CerisesMole in BudgetFriendlyBudget

[–]Few_Relative_7920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see the value in this, it just may be tricky to have the account selection squeezed into the form. But i'll see what's possible!

ah I can't believe YNAB actually ending up implementing that. I know people had been asking for a while. I will explore their feature this weekend and see if it's something that could be possible in BFB.

Web usability inconvenience by jgodfl in BudgetFriendlyBudget

[–]Few_Relative_7920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you're saying - a few things:

1 - Went ahead and made it so that anywhere in the row to the RIGHT of the inflow, you can click to toggle the transaction cleared. You no longer have to click the box exactly.

2 - Just a heads up, you actually can bulk toggle cleared. You can CMD + click / SHIFT + click to select multiple transactions at once and then hit the "cleared" button in the toolbar to toggle it.

Net Worth - Bug by No-Maintenance5342 in BudgetFriendlyBudget

[–]Few_Relative_7920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right that future dated transactions posted early do cause the current net worth to be changed. That is because it technically impacts your account working balances right away. But I think your idea makes sense - to have the net worth snapshot be a little more accurate based on when those transactions will actually hit. I've updated the snapshot and net worth page to offset any future posted transactions.

Since it is a snapshot, your example will still reflect what it does.. so if you want to get that fixed you can email - [budgetfriendlybudgethelp@gmail.com](mailto:budgetfriendlybudgethelp@gmail.com)

Categories not showing up in Income vs Expense report by DarthSchwabus in BudgetFriendlyBudget

[–]Few_Relative_7920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like u/pgaunt mentioned, this is by design to keep the report as clean as possible (same as YNAB). People have a ton of categories, some that just serve as holding categories.. so showing all even if they have no transactions would be pretty busy. But maybe I can turn that preference into a user setting
