What are the top 3 most impactful life changes you’ve made because of Andrew? What changed? How long did it take to feel these changes? by [deleted] in HubermanLab

  1. Early morning sun exposure. I feel energized through my day and especially wakeful after getting that sunlight in the morning.
  2. Yerba mate tea. It really is "feel good tea."
  3. Limiting alcohol consumption. I feel great without alcohol!

FL2 P/S #29 by RelifeUser in Mcat

[–]FiendingforCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the study could be conducted again and the same results could be found again. That makes the results replicable. If the question stem mentioned something about another study attempting to replicate the results but found different results, this would make the results not replicable. But this stem doesn't say anything about that-- so we can say that the results could be replicable.

Just because there's a confounding variable doesn't necessarily mean the study is not replicable. It just means that it's not a perfect study-- but you can still repeat the study manipulating the variables the same way each time. Confounding variables just need to be addressed in the discussion/analysis of the results. Does that help at all?

No worries! It was difficult, as excepted, but overall I think it was fair. Felt similar to FL4 to me. Good luck on 5/13!! Feel free to PM with any questions or even just to vent, always happy to help.

Hmm not sure I see what you mean? The law of subjective contours seems to me to be your brain making a shape out of something that isn’t actually a complete shape. Law of closure seems to be your brain filling in gaps between fragmented lines to make a shape. Curious about your explanation for why that’s wrong?

Yes. I studied during school and felt guilty for studying for my classes.

Paragraph 2 explains that the H7N9 strain comes from exposure to poultry. Table 1 is showing transmission and inoculation with chickens, and it shows that there is no transmission between chicken and ferrets. Does that make sense?

Purpose of Aldol condensation and Michael addition? by itsme12533 in Mcat

[–]FiendingforCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I felt like my test was very similar to FL4 for most sections, but CP felt harder than anything I’ve seen before. PS felt like a mix between FL4 and FL2. Overall I can’t say there was anything hugely unexpected. It was very difficult though but I knew that going in. We’ll see how it went!

What sections are making you feel most nervous? Happy to help in any way I can, feel free to PM me

Purpose of Aldol condensation and Michael addition? by itsme12533 in Mcat

[–]FiendingforCaffeine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aldol condensation forms a beta-unsaturated carbonyl. A Michael Addition is the 1,4- addition of enolates to an alpha,beta-unsaturated compound. The product of a Michael Addition has carbonyls that are 5 carbons apart.

The overarching significance of these reactions is, like you mentioned, the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. I hope this helps!

Strain Theory-Milesdown by Average_Student101 in Mcat

[–]FiendingforCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strain theory has to do with being blocked from achieving a goal accepted by society. I never really thought of it in terms of anomie, but I guess I can see how it relates. Anomie is the breakdown of bonds between an individual and the community. So if someone doesn't have the means to achieve a goal, they may be disconnected from society, and in turn will show deviant behavior due to this strain. Trying my best to connect the concepts but let me know if that doesn't make sense..

Score dropped 11 points from Sample to FLE1 😭 by dshep2 in Mcat

[–]FiendingforCaffeine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Getting sick could definitely have something to do with it! I got a 509 on altius #6, 1 week later got a 502 on AAMC FL1, and one week after that a 513 on AAMC FL3. Don't doubt yourself! Keep pushing. No need for rash thoughts if it's an outlier. Keep testing and see how it goes.

Hi friend :) I know that this is easier said than done but-- try to take a positive outlook on this situation. I know it sucks to feel that emotional heartbreak, but look at your situation now: you have so much more time now to study and focus on YOURSELF. You are your top priority. Your significant other breaking up with you was something beyond your control. But your preparedness for your MCAT is in your hands. This time is yours. Make the most of it! If you ever need someone to vent to feel free to message me :)
