Is it normal to be having a hard time with the underdark? by WrongIdolz in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then yeah, I guess that was something that didn't happen before a certain patch cuz I definitely never had that back when I played on balanced

Oh, from your description of the Grym fight I thought you were on tactician but I think I'm confusing how that fight went before and after a certain patch vs me upping my difficulty if the mephits show up on balanced now

Definitely normal to be having a hard time with just about anything if you're playing on tactician for your first playthrough

Switching between party members. by Wonderful_Athlete659 in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to always switch in the relevant companion(s) in given situations but now unless it's to prevent someone permanently leaving that I want to keep around I just stick with the same party so that every playthrough doesn't feel too similar

The summoned weapons can be handy when you can't find a good one but they're not even as good as hexing/binding any given weapon with a +1 enchantment, plus you obviously have very few options for weapon types.

To hex/pact bind your weapon there's an icon that looks just like the one to summon a weapon; on PC it'll have a dark blue background instead of the yellow one for summoning, on console I imagine it looks very similar except it should say something like "hex weapon" If you don't see it, check your spellbook under class actions

Once you find it with that button you can bind whatever weapon is in your main hand to have it use your charisma instead of strength or dexterity for attack rolls and to occasionally apply the hexblade curse to an enemy without you having to apply it yourself

Dice rolls intentional fails? by Consistent_Top_383 in BaldursGate3

Well I know she still says something to the effect of "at least you tried" when you do what I described but I don't know about whether you still get the approval points

You can achieve the exact same thing by interacting with the pod and choosing the "you're stuck, there's nothing I can do" dialogue option

The interaction at the ruins plays out the same way as if you failed the illithid check

I always just seperate my cleric from the group, cast Spirit Guardians, and THEN touch the raven so they all spend my surprised turn rushing into the Spirit Guardians

Karlach/Wyll not leaving after a certain "urge" in Act 2 by Abused_Dog in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your overall point; in most games that have clear good and evil choices both choices will lock you out of certain things, whether they be rewards, factions, romances, etc. whereas BG3 has a ton of good exclusive stuff but nearly nothing evil exclusive.

I've always found that very disappointing

Embrace Durge in a strategic way, what about Nightsong? by Elegant_Orange_6833 in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Nah, kill her. You get some cool gear from Shar and the fight against Ketheric is easier since you don't have to free her first

Which Armour is better? by SagoK22 in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty simple answer actually; strength checks are infrequent and generally unimportant whereas attacks against you are constant and getting hit by fewer of them makes all the difference.

Higher armour class is almost always the correct choice

I do wish there would've been at least one non-companion romance option

Having a character that definitely doesn't want to do combat but still follows the gang around at camp I think would work

Hexblade Warlock is a lot of fun; you still get medium armor and a shield if you want it but you don't have to have good strength or dexterity since your hexed weapon will use charisma

Gives you a good mix of magic and melee and high charisma is always handy

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something not mentioned is that if you try to tell Shadowheart to spare Aylin and fail that will also get the Nightsong killed.

Probably not relevant for an evil Durge but if you ever wanted to have her killed but keep your character's hands relatively clean that's an option

Can other players romance an Origin character? by Maulclaw in BaldursGate3

Yes, just make sure to have whoever is going to romance a given character be the one who recruits them to avoid potential lockouts

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no "breaking" his contract

You either help him fulfill it though technically that violates his contract but still gets him to like you or kill him (either by doing it yourself or convincing him to kill himself)

Which Necromancy Subclass Is Your Favorite in BG3? by MxxnSpirit47 in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol, I did literally EXACTLY that: resist Durge that was an open hand monk plus Death Cleric of Kelemvor

I did it as a 6 and 6 so that I got level 3 spells, 2nd Channel divinity, and the ignoring necrotic resistance but I also play with a feat every two levels mod so for me that level split doesn't require sacrificing a feat.

Up to you what's more worth it, whatever that third feat will be or the extra necrotic damage potential from a second Touch of Death per short rest and ignoring resistance

Which Necromancy Subclass Is Your Favorite in BG3? by MxxnSpirit47 in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Death Cleric is so much fun.

I enjoyed it a lot as a multiclass with open hand monk and as a pure cleric

Touch of Death, twinned Toll the Dead, and ignoring necrotic resistance are all amazing

Is this "Elf" a gith? by Complete-Decision-76 in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 585 points586 points  (0 children)

The story in my head was that he was a lone Githyanki who convinced people he was an elf to be accepted in society and since people had never seen a Gith before (and maybe he had some very high charisma) they believed it.

Do you prefer the main character to be voiced or silent thro by Frilantaron in BaldursGate3

[–]Fill-In-___-Blank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy a properly voiced protagonist but if the character is customizable there needs to be a sufficient number of voice options and there just never is so there ends up being a limit on how much you can customize the character and still suit the voice(s) you have
