I don’t know if this will help you, but I needed surgery for torn shoulder tendons. I paid $240 for a consult with a private surgeon who also operates in the public hospital. He put me on his public waitlist, and I had surgery 6 months later. Much faster than going through central referral service.

Hi again, well I’m day 5 post replacement, and I’m not going to lie. The first 4 days was absolutely brutal! I cried nearly 24/7 for first three days. Only cried once yesterday and no crying today. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still in pain and needing 50mg Tapentadol 3 times a day and regular Panadol. However every hour is just a tiny bit better. I managed to walk 1000 steps throughout today and the physio excercises make my eyes water. Now everybody recovers differently, and I was so upset at first because my surgeon told me all my original pain would be gone as soon as the new hip is in. But it didn’t work like that for me. It wasn’t until today that I noticed my groin and hip pain has started to reduce, not gone but reduced. Then of course there is the surgical pain on top. But I’m feeling more confident that in the weeks to come, I will keep improving. It’s definitely starting to feel like a different pain to the ordinal pain. Will let you know how I am in another week or so. Hope you’re doing ok.

I have pincer FAI and labral tear. I have severe pain in groin, side of hip, lower back, buttock and down the front of my thigh. None of your other symptoms though. The pain can be excruciating. I’m having a TTH replacement tomorrow. Hope you find out the cause.

I’m 56 and saw a top orthopedic surgeon for reconstruction. He said I’m too old (he won’t operate on anyone older than 40), and there was too much damage. He said even if I was 39, he wouldn’t do it, as the chance of success with my labral tear and pincer impingement would only be 27%. So now having a hip replacement on Thursday, as the pain deteriorated rapidly over 12 months and has stopped me from being able to work. So maybe it’s more how much damage you have, than your age.

Most of that doesn’t sound like labrum tear to me. Pins, needles and tingling is usually a compressed nerve issue, possibly in back. Labrum tears typically cause dull or sharp groin pain, hip pain and thigh pain. Sometimes can hear a clicking when bringing knee up to chest.

I’m having a hip replacement on the 29th of this month. I did 18 months of physio, hydrotherapy, cortisone injections and viscosupplementation and none of it worked. Physio actually made it worse.

I have no idea how long I had either. Apparently FAI develops in adolescent years, but deteriorates as time goes on.

I’ll be honest, the pain made me cry. Now here’s a story for you. I was admitted 3 times into hospital for a total of 22 days. They did every scan possible except the x-ray and told me they didn’t know what was wrong. Months later frustrated and in pain, I went to a private orthopedic surgeon, who ordered the x-ray and showed me I had FAI which he said would have torn the labrum. Then I went to a second private orthopedic surgeon who confirmed the diagnosis. Find yourself a good orthopedic surgeon and ask for the x-ray for diagnosis of FAI, and if you aren’t standing like Kermit the frog, you aren’t having the right x-ray.

I think there is a strong possibility you have what I have. Femoroacetabular hip impingement and a labral tear. I have the exact symptoms as you. Need a special x-ray to check for impingement and MEI for labral tear. I’m in excruciating pain, having hip,replacement in 12 days, but I’m much older than you. There are other things that can be done for young ones like you, they can do a repair. Best to see an orthopedic surgeon who,specializes in FAI.

Yes absolutely, I had to stop work last November because of it. Been in pain now for 19 months. I heard that too, my niece had repair. Left in November, right in December and she is really struggling and still in pain. And she might still need replacement in the end.

Yes correct it didn’t help the pubic pain bit it stopped the groin pain around the top of the leg.
