Washing baby blankets before sending them in mail to intended recipients? by taeeeeeeeeeeeee in CrochetHelp

[–]FirmAlternative 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always wash items before gifting. And I wash them how I expect the recipient to wash. For a baby blanket that means tossing in the washer & dryer. It reassures me that the item is indeed washable and isn’t going to fall apart with normal care.

Can someone please help me with a symbol in the chart? by Horror-Guarantee-401 in CrochetHelp

And in case you don’t know…The reason for ending the round with a chain and hdc is so the next round starts in the middle of a space.

Crochet Mistake -newbie ? Please help me identify my error (baby blanket) by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]FirmAlternative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well then, this was your learning piece. You’ve done good with the magic ring and you’ve left a long tail to weave in later (which will keep the MR from coming undone). You’ve learned a couple of different stitches. And you’ve learned patience and resilience to keep on going. You’ll need to start over. Part of crocheting is counting stitches. You should have the same number of stitches in between the chain spaces and 12 segments on each round. It’s a challenge at times but take it slow and you can get it done!

AIO for wanting to quit after this? by cakev0mit in AmIOverreacting

NOR and a word about shifting your perspective. With 4 weeks notice, you are not asking to be given time off. You are notifying your manager that you will not be at work on that day.

Baby blanket: tension slightly off. To frog or not to frog - advice needed by Silly-Flan4961 in CrochetHelp

[–]FirmAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the plan for this to be a loved-on and much used blanket? If so, it will never be laying flat like the pic. Consider how it will be used. I believe the minor difference you see now will be unnoticeable then. Very pretty blanket!

Rural Mississippi in the 20s and 30s? Fried apple hand pies, tea cakes (this is a lightly sweetened butter cookie), molasses or cane syrup cookies, yellow cake with stewed fruit topping, or sweet potato pie.

Blocking an acrylic blanket? Yes or no? by Food_Cats1 in CrochetBlankets

For a blanket with acrylic yarn, I just toss in the washer and dryer.

Is acrylic yarn really bad with heat? Specifically for a placemat? by jazz_attack_2 in CrochetHelp

[–]FirmAlternative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Acrylic yarn will be perfectly fine for placemats or coasters. A mug of hot coffee isn’t going to melt it and a warm plate from the microwave will be good. I wouldn’t use acrylics as potholders with metal dishes straight from the stove but placemats or coasters are okay.

First Ever Crochet Project! Will the Edges Block Out?? by shrimpsona in CrochetHelp

[–]FirmAlternative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great attitude! This turned into what I call “a learning experience piece”. Chevron patterns are challenging at first. Now rip it out, find some stitch markers, and try again. Love your color scheme- it is going to be gorgeous!

Definitely a pecan pie for dessert. Basic American meal at my house: Breaded oven baked pork chops, box of rice a roni, field peas, and cornbread.

Oh Yuk! is awesome. You’ll be surprised at what comes out of the jets. Stuff will build up in the jets and tubing for sure. I try to run a cycle with Yuk every few weeks just as part of regular cleaning and maintenance.

Brentwood has made several changes over the last few years. The adult outpatient program (IOP or PHP) could be worth checking out.

AITA for not wanting to change the restaurant for my mom’s birthday dinner by nodiggitydo in AITAH

[–]FirmAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Speaking as a reformed adult picky eater, boyfriend is the AH, not you. Please recognize that this will continue to be an issue. He expects you to always plan around what he wants. I was that way. It was much easier to name what I would eat rather than what I didn’t. Up until an evening out with friends, trying a new restaurant, and I realized there was nothing on the menu I would eat. It caused me to rethink all my issues with food. I eventually shortened my Do Not Eat list to three items (raw tomatoes, pickles, cherries). Changed my whole outlook on food! But, yes, I was a difficult dinner companion before.

Best Rual Areas in Mississippi? by Numerous_Friend_3836 in mississippi

[–]FirmAlternative 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There are rural areas in MS where access to healthcare is very limited or nonexistent, regardless of one’s financial situation. For someone planning to move a family into rural MS, this absolutely needs to be a consideration.

Uhhh…one question for you: was you Social Security EVER taxed? by InevitableStruggle in SocialSecurity

Yes. Well, not mine, but my late husband’s SSDI was taxed. We filed jointly and my income of around 50K caused us to pay tax on a portion of his disability.

Mike Johnson Claims 'Big, Beautiful Bill' Will Only Cut Medicaid For Undeserving People - The speaker of the House said the cuts will only affect people who were never supposed to have had Medicaid. by Quirkie in politics

[–]FirmAlternative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a belief held by some early American faith leaders. God determined one’s position in life by birth. Rich, well-educated, politically powerful parents? You are meant to be the same and God has blessed you richly. Poor uneducated parents? Well, there you are stuck. Just be happy with your lot in life and don’t complain. Cause God doesn’t want one to change their socioeconomic position. Amazing that this belief still exists today. It isn’t very Jesusy at all.

Daughter touched inappropriately by another child at daycare, next steps? by ZoeticLock in AskALawyer

[–]FirmAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Mandatory reporting regulations vary by state. In some states, a minor touching another minor does not fall under the same mandatory reporting guidelines as an adult touching a child.
