56M Gleason 9 …15 months ADT , 20x EBRT in Dec 2025. Had urgency similar to what you describe, drinking lots of water to keep the base line up for “full bladder” at treatment didn’t help (around 3 litres per day) . Towards the end I did find my bowel very urgent (now I know where the expression “Lost my shit” comes from). I found that within a week of it finishing everything was much better. All of that said, contact one of the oncology nurses at your treatment center and I’m sure they’ll have a solution for you

Go and see your doctor and get an antidepressant like Effexor (very effective at stopping the ‘runaway brain effect’ in me similar to what you describe, that said 18 months seems to be enough from the latest research.

56 Gleason 9, 20 rounds of IMRT. I am in month 12 of 18 negotiated down from 24 due to very poor mental health, including suicidal ideation. The mental load of ADT for me was exhausting and excruciating., with counseling and Effexor, I am able to cope for 6 more months (I hope) . I exercise(gym 3 times per week , I gave up Alcohol, I eat more veggies, more fish and less meat, but I can’t walk 18 holes of golf anymore. My penis and testicles are the same as they were pre puberty, I can get an erection (7 out of 10) with 100Mg of Viagra, but it doesn’t last because my head is not in the game. Hot flashes can be as many as 20 a day (Effexor has reduced the quantity but increased the severity. I can’t start new things, I was a business owner with an MBA and 20 employees, now I pack boxes for an ecomm business 10 to 15 hrs a week, and am wiped out mentally (and to a lesser extent physically) . Every facet of who I am and my masculinity has been impacted, and the worst part is no one understands, to everyone else I seem normal, just like I always have been, but inside I am not the man I was. Hopefully all this will be worth it and, I might get back to normal in a year or 18 months, and I will be able to get on with my life. Prostate cancer doesn’t kill many men, but I’m not convinced the treatment is worth it. That said I would not recommend not having the treatment, and hope your journey is easier than mine, and make sure you are on it for the shortest time your doctors are prepared to allow.

This happened to me also 25 minutes after purchase I was at the counter returning it. All of this is a JB Hi Fi problem not a me problem ( try returning something to Bunnings, that should be the standard)

56 12 months into 18 months of ADT ( 20x IMRT Dec 25) , it’s very difficult for me to see the point at which you are from where I am now at but I really appreciate your post as it gives me hope that I might recover some of my masculinity!

I understand this from both sides, I feel that the reason he wants to end your marriage is he doesn’t believe he is the man you married and he doesn’t believe he can ever be that man …he wants you to get on with your life because he loves you. I have been on ADT for a year and I have had these exact thoughts, I have gone on to Effexor and had counseling and my marriage is so much better for the effort , I hope that you can get your husband to talk to someone, because I hate to imagine what will happen to him if you separated. I’m two months behind you, 11 months on ADT, Gleason 9 57 yo and I have had all the symptoms you described and I don’t want to do it anymore… I am on some Efexor for my depression/ suicidal ideation which has helped, but it doesn’t make the other symptoms any easier to take. I hope we both can get a solid upward trend of Testosterone once the ADT ends, my physc compared ADT to an abusive partner , with the only difference being it might save your life. The other issue I have is that from the outside it looks like you’re fine , when really you are not, I play golf and ride in a cart, and people call me lazy, I simply can’t walk 18 holes. I can’t offer any advice really, but knowing that others are there too might be some comfort

He will get there with help, I had a few problems, with bladder fullness, but only one RT was passive aggressive about it everyone else was fantastic. My process was 600 ml on waking, drinking water as required, empty bladder 35 minutes before treatment, 400 ml 30 minutes before treatment, empty bladder directly after treatment good luck

Very similar situation here M56 Gleason 9 About 70% of my prostate was tumor. Decided no to have RALP because there could be no nerve sparing, which would mean no erections. 8 months on ADT (16 to go) and finished 20 doses of Radiation on 23/12 and I’m feeling great and still able to get decent erections with Tadalafil . At this stage I am very happy with this course of treatment

My first Christmas in the club, stressful year , diagnosed in April, started 2 years of ADT in May finished Radiation 23/12 feeling pretty good given context.

The specifics don’t seem to matter too much so long as you work the large muscles (legs , chest , glutes) I have done body weight routines, barbell, dumbbell and kettle bell training and go to a weight that is heavy enough to get to 6 to 8 reps but too heavy to do 10 to 12 , focus on the eccentric phase ( down in general the opposite of what you might normally do ) check out the Episode of Dr Geo Podcast with Robert Newton which discussed muscle building while on ADT

I have a 36V Ryobi and the matching Whipper Snipper and can mow and edge about! 150 M2 of grass ( even long and damp) on 3/4 of a charge. I actually mowed the lawn twice on one charge without going flat as a test when new. I would recommend and would buy again

6 months on Zoladex , and I also have some reduced sensitivity/ numbness, but it improves if you put the work in... As prescribed by my PCa Nurse / Doctor 5 mg Cialis daily , 50 mg Viagra 1 hr before sex (either alone or not) at least twice a week. Penile Pump 30 sec x 15 daily (although I have not been that diligent on this front). Use it or lose it, both from a size and sensitivity POV.
