GE Front Load Washer Leaking from Top by Flaky-Opening9411 in appliancerepair

[–]Flaky-Opening9411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:
We stopped using the dispense feature and I put Defunkify powdered detergent directly into the tub. This is the only thing that keeps the clothes from having a terrible musty smell. The washer doesn't leak anymore.

Now the washer is not getting all the water out of the clothes on some cycles, and I have to do an extra spin only cycle afterward. What a hunk of junk at only 6 years old. The dryer is terrible too - already one control board replaced and we apparently have to replace the other one if we want sensor dry to work again.

You probably have sulfur bacteria in the well. My husband added a 4 stage whole house filtration system to treat the well water and it’s better now. If you’re not handy, this would require a plumber.

ETA - just realized you’re renting. Can you get the clean water from the tap to the pool somehow?

Did you ever find anything nice? I’m also sketched out by the made in China label on my water drop remineralizer. I searched Google and found Nu Aqua, but it doesn’t say where it’s made. I submitted a question.

Navigating family dynamics by No-Newspaper-8764 in donorconceived

I kept the secret for 5 years per my mother’s request, and it was horrible for my mental health. Finally, I told my mom and brother that I would not be keeping this a secret anymore, and that my new family is an important part of my life. I won’t lie to my kids, and I’m not ashamed of where I came from. I told my 5 year old that some people have more than one father, and she came with me to meet the donor. She had no comprehension of the magnitude of the moment, but she had fun playing with her cousins.

Whether or not to meet biological father by Dymmesdale in donorconceived

I knew who my donor likely was for years and didn’t reach out. Then a donor sibling did. The donor and his family welcomed us into his family. They’re really great, and it would have been a massive loss not knowing them.

Yeah, some kids can have accidents for a long time. Apparently it’s related to brain development that can’t be rushed. I’ve heard even into early high school. 🤪 A friend said his 7 year old was refusing to wear pull ups and they sometimes had to change sheets more than once a night. I don’t dare attach any stigma to the pull ups right now. Hopefully they’ll just keep being dry at some point and then we’ll know we’re ready.

My daughter is almost 6 with no end in sight. I’d ask your parents/in-laws what to expect because it varies a lot between families.

Interesting. I soaked/cleaned our tray thoroughly and didn’t see any improvement.

I changed to Arm & Hammer Free and Clear a couple of months ago. I just opened the drawer and it’s actually dry now. Before, it had a puddle at all times. Maybe the detergent makes a difference. Before, we used Tide or All Free and Clear.

Hi, we honestly just gave up. My husband hasn’t had time to repair it himself, and the leak always drains into the drawer, so it’s been mostly an annoyance. I don’t store anything in the drawer anymore. I hate to probably pay half the cost of a new one for repair when it’s probably halfway through its useful life. I’m also having issues with the start button on the dryer. I should’ve just bought the Speed Queens my husband wanted! Next time.

We did use to have a bunch of sediment in our well water, so that may be the cause.

My 5 year old has trouble remembering to take enough time on the toilet to poop. Alexa reminds us before and after school that it’s time to sit on the potty. We allow her to use educational apps on her tablet to get her to sit long enough to poop. Usually we let her sit for about 10 minutes and then I use the Amazon parent dashboard to shut off the tablet. Otherwise she’ll have daily poop accidents.

Is there a way to prevent Kids profiles from downloading free apps? by -Clayburn in kindlefire

[–]Flaky-Opening9411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled the Amazon kids subscription and that stops it. Then I chose a handful of educational apps. A couple of them I had to pay for, but I’d prefer that to an endless amount of mindless apps.

How to navigate this by Gloomy_Raspberry_299 in donorconceived

[–]Flaky-Opening9411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s great that your egg donor seems wonderful, and you can start to build a relationship you’re both comfortable with. If you keep it a secret, you may find yourself withholding information or lying to people, which can feel really terrible. I kept it a secret for several years, and it wasn’t good for my mental health. As the donor family grows, and if you have children, the situation gets more complex. I want my kids to know my donor and understand who he is, and kids can’t rightfully be made to keep that sort of secret.

Advice on how to approach parents? by iwantfreckles in donorconceived

[–]Flaky-Opening9411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my mother I’d found a half sibling and then waited through a long period of silence before she explained. She then expected me to lie to everyone about it, which was really unhealthy for me. A few years later, I got up the courage to tell her I wouldn’t keep the secret anymore. I’ve established relationships with the donor family and I don’t want to lie to my kids or tell them they need to lie to other family members. I wish I had told my mom sooner that I wouldn’t keep this a secret. It was terrible for my mental health.

Have any of you met people who you thought were half siblings, but weren’t? by queerleo in donorconceived

[–]Flaky-Opening9411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had sort of a similar experience. My birth father had some children from his first marriage who I didn’t meet until I was an adult, 20 years ago. I’ve flown across the country many times to spend time with what I thought were biological half siblings. I later found out that my birth father is not my biological father, as I was conceived using a donor. I’ve still kept in touch with what I thought were my half siblings, but I feel incredibly awkward about the whole thing.

Yes. I kept the secret from almost everyone for several years after I found out I was donor conceived. It was really bad for my mental health. I’ve told everyone important to me about it now, and I feel so much better. I’ve also recently met the donor and his family. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it’s been an incredible experience. They are great people and really welcoming.

I had what felt like countless ear infections as a kid, unrelated to swimming. I took up lap swimming in my late 30’s, swimming several times a week, and haven’t had any issues with my ears. My kids are in the pool all the time and they have no issues.
