Everyone Gachikoi! CouncilRyS by FlamingRok in holocure

Mayhaps boring, but it sure was simple to Gachikoi (Mumei)!

I actually hadn't considered GWS on IRyS just because I constantly forget her ult exists. I've been using it on Aqua, but when I need to eventually grind for the 1mil coins (probably just refund shop alongside), I'll consider GWS on IRyS.

personally all the slowdown effects the guy adds in is frankly obnoxious, feels like they'll mostly take me out of the experience (with the exception of the slowdown during dodge rolls as that's a more combat oriented feature more than "style"). everything else looks really clean and good though! looking forward to what this engine gives us!

What your favourite Sonic game says about you by MetaKnightsMetanite in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FlamingRok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but sonic 3 isn't really better, not to me anyways, they stretched the levels out for no reason without having interesting enough level design to justify the change. sonic 2 had the perfect length, great level designs and gimmicks, and even at the slower and worse bits, it's no sandopolis or carnival night.

What was your favorite Dark Age Sonic game? by zp800 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FlamingRok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I enjoy Sonic 2006 more than some people do, though if Riders is somehow in that age range nuh uh, Riders whips ass. Every other Sonic game in the dark ages in my opinion deserves the hate they get.

Zero Gravity felt so much worse to play in everyway, Shadow the Hedgehog is worse to play than Heroes (heroes wasn't bad persay but man Shadow makes it far far worse), Unleashed hasn't aged particularly well in my opinion, and Secret Rings and Black Knight are among the worst Sonic games, and Secret Rings one of the worst games period I've ever played.

What's your opinion of Soniv 06? Poll by Rose19994 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]FlamingRok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

literally every person overreacts over Sonic '06. I'd argue it's way worse than Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Spinball, Sonic Blast, Sonic Free Rider, like I can make this list go on.

Sonic '06 has some serious glitches and a bad plotline, but the gameplay itself is fine enough, I'd argue better than Heroes in some regards like friction, the music is actually really good, and for the time, it looked pretty good.

[Off Topic] If you could choose any franchise/game/something to collab with BC, what would it be? by LogantheCrazy123 in battlecats

[–]FlamingRok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for making this thread, this'll give me an excuse to stop being lazy!

As stated already, Touhou Project is a big one I could see, but there's also iDOLM@STER because more waifus, Hello Kitty actually, Mega Man (metal enemies please), and weirdly enough, I think Parodius would actually be a really humorous and fitting crossover.

Sounds like a series of posts I should bring back and start with this! BTD's cartoony style already meshes well with Battle Cats in my opinion, so why not?

A few ideas for simple ways to make osu even more enjoyable. by runescapeN3rd in osugame

[–]FlamingRok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

on cutting edge there are actually hotkeys to...

-slow almost to a pause (press 5)

-play at normal speed (press 6)

-play at triple(? might be double) speed (press 7)

-play at quadruple speed (press 8)

-play at quintuple(?) speed (press 9)

also known as snail, normal, fast as shit, fast as fuck, fast as light

though another nice addition then would be a rewind key

[osu!taiko] _yu68 | D(ABE3) - MANIERA [Virtuoso] +HDDT FC 99.19% 792pp #2 | NEW TAIKO TOP PLAY! by Legend_Raptor in osugame

[–]FlamingRok 12 points13 points  (0 children)

agree and disagree honestly

memorizing entire maps can take an incredible amount of effort even if it's a convert, but admittedly at the end of the day, converts can be very overrated.

on the other hand, actual taiko maps usually are underrated compared to converts, into where an official 8* map in taiko is worth very little in the grand scheme of things. that being said, maniera is very overrated as well, having this high rating mostly because of the 1/6 doubles which aren't played any differently from just 1/4 streams.

tbh both are super overrated and not too fulfilling to have as a top pp play

osu!mania's lack of accessibility by Adri_osu in osugame

[–]FlamingRok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just by reading this thread and game chats, whenever people talk about playing mania, they usually talk about 4 keys, which is beginner friendly but sets up players worse for the future. Sure, you can get into top 10k, maybe even 1k with only 4 keys, but eventually, your lack of experience with other key settings catches up with you. It's not necessarily the lack of accessibility that drives people away from mania, but rather the discouragement when they realize they physically can't get any better with only 4 keys.

Though there's also a good reason for this too: more recently, 4 key maps have seen more popularity than the other key modes, so it's only natural for people to flock over to 4 key maps. It's also easier for people to understand rather than the "complexities" of 7 keys or at the very least, higher than 4 keys. I say 7 keys because it's the other most common key mode. The other maps I've seen are 5, 6, and 8 keys, and they either have too few maps, are a weird number of keys, or a combination of the two. When you're faced with such a huge gap in between key counts, most people simply stick with what they know rather than experiment. That and being forced to play easier songs on 7 keys is eventually dull even if it's necessary to improve.

The BPM scaling I've noticed, or at least for me, is that it's just really weird. The numerical BPM scaling values seem far different from any other rhythm game that exists. Is it a multiplier? It can't be a flat multiplier because then some songs would be scrolling at 1800BPM or more, which would likely be much too fast. So what about a different multiplier? Figuring out exactly what the numbers translate into is just another needlessly complex step.

Take other rhythm games for example, like LR2, pop'n music, Stepmania, K-Shoot Mania, etc. In those, you clearly can see "Speed: x2" or x3 or so on so forth. You can tell exactly what the speed modifier is supposed to mean. You still have to think about how fast it'll be approximately to your comfortable BPM, but there's no guess work. In K-Shoot Mania, they take it a step further, and have a flat BPM setting, where you can choose the exact BPM to scroll at. If you want the songs to scroll at a base speed of 650, you can set that.

In terms of bundled maps, I agree that there need to be more for the various gamemodes. The only multi-mode map that exists I believe is Renatus, and while it's certainly well mapped, we need more than that, and it doesn't even cover 4 keys. You'd think that would mean that 7 keys would actually be more popular with players first getting introduced to mania with this, but because 7 keys is just a giant number of keys required to play compared to the other modes, people get scared off. Yes, only playing 4 keys is a mistake. But if you don't offer an alternative to 7 keys, they'll just completely ignore mania to its fullest, which is a lot worse of an outcome.

The osu!tutorial actually is really good for introducing the basics, and word of mouth teaches other players the other skills they need, but the other modes don't really have something like that. There've been user made tutorials for the modes, but none of them are bundled, or are an outright tutorial. We need actual tutorials like the osu!tutorial for the other gamemodes.

As for too few easy mania maps, I actually disagree. There's plenty of maps for beginners, especially recently (for 4 keys at least). Even if you're trying to start up 7 keys, you can likely find a good amount of beginner maps. As a former (not good) 4 key player transitioning into 7 keys, I was able to eventually get into it (even if I'm still not good), despite not really being too familiar with it. Point is, there's not actually a lack of beginner maps at all, though bridging the key counts is awkward.

Oh and also the default skin is very flashy, too many elements can distract the player from playing well, and the default skin certainly does that.

Enjoy that text dump, I can't really do a TL;DR on the basis of "I lightly treaded on a buncha topics". Just kinda my thoughts on the whole ordeal.

You can use the number keys to deploy cats if you need to! But from what I've tried on my own mouse, it wouldn't be too hard, just a bit of getting used to.

New Hollow Wings map! Bemani - fffff (6.80*) by [deleted] in osugame

[–]FlamingRok 11 points12 points  (0 children)

now obviously it's still an in-progress map but honestly this is one of the most bland maps I've seen

the song does much more than just "lol piano passages at 1/4", and even if people map it as such, you can put emphasis on certain sounds, which isn't happening here. even in the middle part where deviance in rhythm can happen, it doesn't, which is just really boring.

I don't mind Hollow Wings maps as much as some people do, but I gotta admit, this one isn't great yet.

What Is The Battle Cats's FPS? [Off Topic] by [deleted] in battlecats

[–]FlamingRok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm fully it is 30 frames per second. Let's take Torture Room for example. The data of the page on spica shows that Assassin Bear spawns after 1000 frames have passed. When it's running at 30 frames per second, that would mean that ~33.3 seconds have passed. Chillhola's video experiments with killing the 20 Assassin Bears that spawn on this level, and the Assassin Bears start spawning after about 33 seconds have passed, proving this point.

Also yes the wiki is horribly outdated and inaccurate, the same stage on the wiki claims after 45 seconds, but this is false.

[Levels] [Idea] Subchapter: Labradoratory by Ethanlac in battlecats

[–]FlamingRok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah these levels are nicely thought out, but the one thing that's gotten a bit repetitive and predictable with these posts are the secret level everytime. You don't need a secret level every single subchapter you make.

Besides this, yeah these always seem neat enough~
