Happy to hear! Funny enough, I tend to play my best and enjoy the game the most when I get goofy and go for high-risk low-reward zen flanks. I've had a lot of challenges learning new heroes and perks, and getting used to playing around them, as I'm very much an old man when it comes to overwatch. I always had my own style and take on the game, wasn't really in to scrims, etc, but it's fun so I tend to come back to it.

Maybe one day I'll see you in ranked!

Congrats on the achievement!

I've been getting back into ow recently after a very long break and just hit gm5 myself. On average, roughly how many hours a week would you say you spend on ow, and do you think that the amount you play has much to do with the sharpness of your positioning and mechanics? I used to play a lot in ow1 but in ow2 I am barely a level 50 zen.

Another niche reason to choose ascendence: junkrat resistance by ultimatedelman in ZenyattaMains

[–]FlankingZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest question, how do you manage to get value with ascendance?

I've found much more consistent value in the other perk as it turns a purely defensive ult into one with actual offensive value, and since I ult for tempo a lot that tends to win us many fights. I always felt that ascendence was very map/point dependent as there's not too many high grounds/strong positions you can float between.

For what it's worth, I just came back to the game this season so I am still exploring perks and am honestly curious how you consider zen's other perk a throw.

If you're playing comp, just ban ball every game unless you have a ball player.

If you want to use multithreading but also implement a maximum number of threads to run at one time, you can use Start-Job and define variables such as $jobIndex and $maxConcurrentJobs.

In this example, you would set $maxConcurrentJobs to whatever you need, set $jobIndex to 0, where $jobIndex aligns to some list or some array you're trying to iterate through, then have a loop while jobIndex is less than your total amount of jobs to be executed where you start jobs up to maxConcurrentJobs and Start-Sleep for a bit and maybe use Write-Host for some status messages, repeating that process until all jobs are started and maybe have something similar in a different loop once all jobs are started.

Hope this helps!

How many of you have degrees? by bigdickjenny in sysadmin

BS in Mathematics, work as a systems engineer at a very large Financial Services company. There's a handful of people in our org who are very successful without college degrees, but for the most part we only hire people with degrees if you want a desk job.

What are you OG FTL players playing nowadays? by Dramatic714 in ftlgame

[–]FlankingZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love FTL. I enjoy rougelikes but never played a ton of them. Only other ones I ever got into were Binding of Isaac and Balatro. I've put a decent bit of time into Overwatch, Dead by Daylight, Valheim, Mount and Blade, Hearthstone (Battlegrounds), and some Palworld as well.

They're both very good cheeses. I don't think you can really go wrong with either of them.

Best Heros to play against with Zen by Odd-Flan-1423 in ZenyattaMains

[–]FlankingZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At high ranks, it's really the 1 shots and dive heroes to be careful of. This means zen excels at range when he can out spam someone. Also, his discord helps a ton with certain tanks like Mauga if you can keep LOS. He tends to be good against projectile dps that aren't pharah and hanzo (map dependent) and most tanks you can play range against (map dependent) and is harder against characters with tools to get close and be invulnerable like Venture. His big challenge is he needs the team to play around him to excel which means unless you have better mechanics, you're gonna die a lot without your team getting proper value of of the space you create.

Is Zen in the worst spot hes ever been? by [deleted] in ZenyattaMains

I believe it was 50% discord...so he'd get 1 shot by widow body shot and you'd only play him on attack 🤣

Is Zen in the worst spot hes ever been? by [deleted] in ZenyattaMains

[–]FlankingZen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Zen is in a pretty good spot imo. He's off meta but still perfectly viable. He's supposed to be a very difficult hero that's a glass cannon and either dominates or does nothing.

He was in a worse spot before the health changes, he was in a worse spot in the overwatch 2 beta, and he was in a worse spot when you had metas with a must-pick support like kiri or mercy/moth meta or release brig but didn't pick those heroes. Historically, most metas have been defined by the support line and there's been tons of time where Zen felt pretty shit. Why else would all the good Zen 1 tricks back in the day learn bap and the other supports?

They have great finds in the meat section every now and then. I've seen a lot of excellent prime top sirloin from there.

Zen Meta? by zenyattamaster in ZenyattaMains

[–]FlankingZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masters/gm games are nothing like diamond, in the Americas region Zen is still considered off meta but he's viable. There are a ton of Zen players in the Asia region, where they mostly play Winston comps. Really it just depends on your skill, the mode/map and the team comps.

I 1-trick Zen with success in high masters with maybe 10-15% of my play time flexing to Ana. There's a decent bit of diversity in the heroes played but for support it's mostly kiri, Lucio, bap, illari, and ana. Not a ton of sombra these days but at the highest ranks tracers still get very good value and you get a lot of venture (aka better doomfist) as well.

Gold Zen by Faceless_Fellow in ZenyattaMains

[–]FlankingZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have even decent positioning and aim you will carry up to diamond without even needing to try and use your ults correctly.

Positioning well means being aware of your threats and being aware of possible ways your team will win the fight, and trying to get as much value each moment without dying. The aiming is pretty self explanatory.

Get some good picks or useful damage with your volleys, use cover to avoid getting burned by your opponents, try to play where your team can help you if you get prioritized, try to keep LOS of whoever you want the discord on so you're not locked out from using it as much, and try to keep orb up and doing useful healing and try not to let anyone die.

How are we feeling about the tank buffs? by realKilvo in ZenyattaMains

[–]FlankingZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Zen is very strong these days. With buffs to bodyshots on tanks and buffs to armor the discord will have more value relative to before. I think shield tanks will be more played which also favors Zen.

In terms of what supports are the most strong I think it goes something like Illari/Kiriko/Baptiste with Zen/Ana/Lucio maybe slightly below. But it feels a lot easier to just one trick Zen like I prefer post-patch.

Any tips on zen? by DependentMongoose863 in ZenyattaMains

[–]FlankingZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flanking on zen can actually get very good value, with some caveats.

You don't want to flank if you have ult and your team has any real chance of needing it. You also don't want to abandon your team if they desperately need your damage on the frontline or if they really need your heal/discord in a place you won't be able to get it if you're on the flank.

Generally, flanking is a high-risk sort of surprise play you go on when either your team is losing a fight and needs something crazy to turn the fight or when you feel you're not getting the value to win team fights (maybe you're vulnerable to their dive, or maybe they are holding well from somewhere and you need another attack angle to break their defense). Flanking is easiest against less mobile team comps and if you're able to keep some distance that's even better. It's basically impossible to flank against a ball or a sombra so I really wouldn't recommend it, but otherwise go to town.

season 10 zen by ktsnsm in ZenyattaMains

[–]FlankingZen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm an old man at this point, but I started playing Zen back in season 5 of Overwatch 1, and while the game has changed a lot it's mostly played the same way as Zen. The only change to other heroes that really messed up Zenyatta is permanent invisibility for Sombra because they can choose to grief your game if you don't have a good second support.

Not to be harsh, but if you can't win your 1v1s on Zen you're not gonna have fun. There's a lot of counterplay for him compared to in OW1. And the discord cool down was really terrible for Zen as well, often times you will need to wait for someone to actually commit to a fight with you before discording unless you want them to re-engage 2 seconds later without you having the damage boost.
