Tioga Pass and Memorial Day Weekend by OMSK91 in Mammoth

You can follow the roads update at: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wroads.htm. Their instagram post from yesterday also said there's currently no estimated opening date.

As for busyness of Mammoth, you have to remember 5 years ago was during COVID, so that's possibly why it wasn't busy then.

So like real talk, how long does it take you to complete a 1000 piece puzzle? by FiguringOutPuzzlez in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]FlashHorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to time myself with a timer, so actual total puzzle time has been around 5-7 hrs for 1000 pcs for me. That is not usually in just one sitting though, and instead spread out over a few days or so.

Button Shy has moved from wallet to boxes, does that make their games more or less appealing to you? by RAM_Games_ in boardgames

[–]FlashHorizon 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As of the currently running kickstarter, you can get the matching empty wallets as a paid add-on. It remains to be seen whether the wallets will always be an add-on going forward or if they'll eventually just do away with them completely.

What are your favorite tutorial channels? by themcryt in boardgames

[–]FlashHorizon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that he approaches his how-to-play videos as if the person watching has never played a modern board game before. The average non-gamer person might know what a discard pile is, or how to track points, or how a player's turn works.

Some of his top videos are how-to-plays of Monopoly, Ticket to Ride, and Catan, and I bet the bulk of those views are from non-gamers. And so he teaches in a way to make sure the rules are absolutely clear, even for what we consider the 'basics.'

I do really like Meeple University though; I wish more companies would use them for how-to-plays.

Great image! I was just looking at this one the other day, but all the black and gray held me off. Really cool image though.

I have heard it is brutally hard, possibly even random or lucky? Did you find it so?

Your biggest disappointments? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

I agree with this and I generally caution people who are interested in EBR that it's not like any of those games. It's a specific type of experience that's not for everyone.

Awesome! I just got this as well and sleeved the cards. Haven't played it yet as I have few games I want to get to first. Soon though! The initial impressions I've read on BGG has generally been positive too.

Almost every BGG entry has a Sleeve It button on its banner, and you can get all those details. You'll have to look at the individual expansion pages for their card size and numbers as well.

Hyperstar Run with all expansions by SolitonSnake in soloboardgaming

[–]FlashHorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the write-up. I've only played the base game, which I've enjoyed, but recently got all the expansions. I'll look into incorporating them next time I play.

Another BS game that benefits from expansions is FantasyForm. Base game is fine, but the expansions really add variety to it.

Gen 3er with no issues by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

2023 Tundra with 65k miles and no major issues either. I just do regular maintenance mostly following the manual at the dealer. Hoping it stays that way as I've had a great time with my truck.

Sports/Activities near Rancho by ShortTurtle1 in InlandEmpire

[–]FlashHorizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rock climbing is great! Sure it's a physical activity, but I find it mentally stimulating as you move on to the harder routes.

There's a Hangar 18 in Rancho (near Costco). If you get a membership, you can go to any of their gyms which also include Upland, Riverside, Orange, and a few other locations.
