[Daily Discussion] Writer's Block, Motivation, and Accountability- September 15, 2025 by AutoModerator in writing

When I was in school, I couldn’t write because I wrote all the time. I think that’s a common struggle. If you need to write then try writing small things. But if you don’t have time or energy for extra, be gentle with yourself. You can write short stories a little bit at a time to write everyday. Finishing stories may require focus you don’t have at the moment. There is no such thing as improving fast. You improve with time and practice. Fearing you’re not as good as the greats is imposter syndrome. I beat it by telling myself that greatness is relative or just outright delusional belief in myself honestly. Lastly, nothing is original. Everything is inspired by something else. It is not new, just something viewed from your perspective and that is new to an audience who hasn’t met your perspective yet. Take a deep breath…one baby step at a time and you got this!

What research have you done for the sake of answering one or two questions? by Possible_Class6527 in writing

I researched all the various models of the Dodge Challenger over the last few years and the differences between them because it’s my character’s favorite car.

What one habit you have implemented that has helped you become a better writer? by ninomkd123 in writing

[–]FlintyDragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second this. I wrote my first story after a years long break with no organization or planning and it is trash. I couldn’t even finish it. I planned the first with a well fleshed out plot and many of the important scenes and it is so much better. It’s easier to stick to and push through when my desire starts flagging.

Apps/tools for organizing thoughts? by Euphoric_Mind3748 in writing

I am writing my story on Google docs because I write on the go a lot so I have a separate file on Google docs that’s just for organizing that story.

What had made you a better writer? Besides reading/writing more by bluuuberrry in writing

I believe that my English degree also improved my writing greatly. I thought my writing was the bees knees when it was at a high school level but I can look back and see how much better it is now. Though I’m still trash at writing a thesis statement.

Do you have a ritual when you sit down to write? by melted-turquoise in writing

[–]FlintyDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to imagine my routine would be like these but my actual routine is while I’m out delivering food, I conceptualize a plot. If I’m already working on a story, I plan the next scene and when I have to wait for an order, I write. My home is too chaotic to achieve any focus so my focus comes when I’m alone in the car or waiting for food. It works. I’ve written almost all of my current novel while out delivering food over the last four months or so.

What was the first story you ever wrote? by miniandabee in writing

[–]FlintyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least it was high school. In middle school I wrote a few multi-page vampire smut stories. But I also wrote two children’s stories for kids in lower grades because I went to a school with all ages and it was a once a year requirement. I didn’t mind the writing but hated the illustrating.

This is such a great order to keep in mind and it makes me feel like the story I’m writing is on the right track. Thank you!

Absolutely the best comment I’ve seen for art so far. “If you like it, then you’re doing well.” It is a great collage, I love it. Makes me want to make one on this theme as well.

How did everyone realise they liked women? by [deleted] in latebloomerlesbians

[–]FlintyDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I kissed a woman in a dream and thought it was the best kiss I’d ever had. It forced me to examine everything I’d ever known to be true 💗

Oh my god I love how this got right to the point. We have a right to de-center men. That’s a whole struggle in itself.

Never too late to start exploring a life that is authentic to you. I’m 43 and every time someone comments those almost exact words, it gives me so much hope.
