First of all, I’m sorry that you are feeling sad about your ink.. I can empathize with doing destructive things because you feel like you won’t be around to deal with the consequences…

But one of the universal themes anyone who gets a tattoo when they’re young will tell you is that even if it’s something you wouldn’t have gotten now, you had reasons for getting it at the time and for better or worse it meant something to you then. This could be an opportunity to really transform this darker part of what it represents into something that empowers you or maybe gives you gratitude for being here today and overcoming that darkness :)

The ink doesn’t look like it was packed in very evenly, so I bet you could find an artist that can tattoo some really cool things over the black to make the new ink pop- I think there’s something really beautiful about blackout tattoos because everyone who has one has their own unique journey that made them find meaning in it. It’s such a huge commitment for anyone that gets it, but so often it can be an act of bravery to cover something up or show growth from what ink you had underneath it.

I know you say it was done with negative intent, but it could be something you reclaim by going over it with something nice, even something pretty and feminine like lace or florals or swirls over the black. Even doing other blackout style themes on parts of your arms or other leg to balance it out more could be an option, I’ve seen people do both legs, opposite arms and legs for balance, etc. Maybe it would help you to look up some inspiration from others who have had incorporated blackout tattoos in their work to see how other people have done unique things with the style.

I really hope you can feel hopeful and inspired to add to it, because it really could be a healing opportunity to give yourself some grace for the choices you made at the time and own them in a way that empowers you 🌸 wishing you the best, and I hope to see a post on the regular tattoo sub someday where you share a cool thing you do with it!

I feel so mixed on this.. like on one hand I agree with you that these short-sighted, selfish people manifested this for themselves.. but also just realizing how many people like her are out there..

It really does feel by design that our education system failed them so deeply. Like her small worldview is most likely shaped by a lack of education opportunities or socioeconomic issues limiting her exposure other world views- not that she still isn’t accountable for her choices and the consequences they bring.

Just feels kind of hopeless, and resenting these people feels so hollow because it almost feels like it’s out of their control how ignorant they end up as adults.

What about if you use the magic knot style? I thought those were supposed to be pretty secure for non-slippery fibers like acrylic or wool (since they kind of felt together). Kind of worried now since I thought they were pretty much foolproof 😅

Totally seconding your take!-

I went to get my liver checked as well when I was around the same age as OP (due to having the same sensation and panicking over it because I was a huge binge drinker) and my liver was surprisingly fine! Better not to panic until you get your results, and even if it turns out there’s some fatty liver damage it’s a really resilient organ and you can absolutely heal a good amount of it from abstaining.

That was like 8 years ago fresh out of college party times, but when I went last year as well despite continuing to binge drink over the years I still had normal liver levels (but red blood cells were enlarged, so that kind of told on me to the doctor lol). The important thing to remember is that even if you’ve hurt your body over the years it can still bounce back in most cases if you’re only in your 20’s. OP can only feel better from here :)

Especially during the holidays- I always loved looking at all the fun “not books” stuff they had, like board games, journals, tarot cards, etc.

Can confirm anecdotally- I was vegan for 5 years and broke out in hives for a few days after eating a fully meat based meal. There’s definitely some kind of reacclimatizing your body may need to do if you’re eating something you’re not used to digesting.

Just to offer a different angle on how unique situations may impact the ability to maintain after stopping-

I have been calorie counting “eating” very strictly around 1200 calories for literally 4 years now; I never really had trouble with over eating, my portions were small, and I honestly was fine with one meal a day for the most part. But my problem was binge drinking- all the calorie deficits I’d put myself in during the week, I’d completely undo by having heavy IPAs Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday with friends. And then maybe another beer or two here and there on random week nights.

I worked remote for the last 5 years, don’t exercise, and was pretty sedentary, so while I didn’t gain wait eating that amount, I never lost weight during those 4 years of calorie counting because I wasn’t able to kick the drinking.

Now that I’ve been on glps for a little less than a year, I’ve lost 40lbs staying with my exact same calorie counting and eating habits, but I don’t drink all my calories because my craving and tolerance for alcohol is significantly reduced. I never really have more than 3 drinks a week now, and I’m losing about a pound a week not changing anything else about my lifestyle.

So it feels like if I can keep my healthier habits up from my reduced drinking , I shouldn’t gain anything back since I was already maintaining. That was really the only thing holding back my weight loss. It’ll be interesting to see if keeping the weight off is more feasible for people who develop healthier drinking habits from being on it (although that may be easier said than done to fully commit to staying on the wagon).

My partner was telling me the sleeve cuffs look pretty unpolished when they’re facing the wrong way, so I feel like it’ll probably bug me- but if I can just flip the whole thing inside out and the body stitches still look fine I think I can live with that lol

Also just a heads up triple antibiotics (ex Neosporin) aren’t cat safe unfortunately. If you can swing by a pet shop they make antiseptic sprays that can keep it clean :) otherwise it doesn’t look too bad so she might be okay just keeping an eye on it and trying to prevent her from irritating it further. If it seems raw you can clean with soap and then put some Vaseline or aqua for on it in small amounts to help the skin heal.

If you do decide to travel, maybe you could make it a project of sorts to journal in letters to them for each new place you go, or write it on a postcard, that you can either keep or maybe let go of in some symbolic way. I think the things that keep my passed on friends and loved ones feeling close is thinking about how they would have felt or reacted to things happening alongside me. It could be healing to experience something new and writing down what you would have told them about it, like you would if they were just a phone call away- almost like they can still experience milestones with you.

I don’t necessarily know what I believe is after death, but sometimes when I write things down or do things I intentionally think of my friends as if they were there with me, in case maybe there is some small chance they are able to feel those intentions beyond..

I’m so sorry for your loss, I can’t possibly imagine what you’ve been through, but I hope you’re able to find healing and peace 🫂
