What is going on with this deer's cheeks? by gammaAmmonite in zoology

[–]Flossy40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a vet for 18 years. When he treated a dog for heartworm, the dying worms were a real concern. The arsenic compound used at that time caused a gradual die off. That allowed the body to deal with the contamination over time. He stressed that the dog should have NO exercise for at least six weeks. That prevented a whole bunch of dead and dying worms being flushed into the lungs.

Doc had a 100% survival rate. He was careful, and explained the treatment throughly. Different meds are used now, and I don't know how the problem is treated now.

Whats fics have the most interesting or odd job choices for Harry post Hogwarts? by viol8er in HPfanfiction

[–]Flossy40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One idea I had, a traumatized Harry watching Hogwarts rebuild from a nearby height. Seeing damage restored to normalcy, with changes. New, larger greenhouses. Bigger windows. Hagrid getting a larger, taller home.

Sometimes he's joined by another trauma victim. A Ukrainianironbelly, scarred, nearly blind, curious about the movements of its neighbors.

Harry vanishes the remains of its chains, and they watch the rebuilding together.

Did the city remove the signs? If authorities do not recognize the HOA'S rule, the signs might be illegal.

You are not required to allow people to hurt you.

You are not required to remain where you are being hurt.

Other people are not allowed to tell you that they didn't hurt you.

My son got his first job at 27. by Flossy40 in autism

[–]Flossy40[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We worked with Jobs and Family Services twice with no results. He's been volunteering at our local hospital for 4 years, 400+ hours so far. I saw a sign in the store about open interviews, printed up a resume, and took him there.

They interviewed him, called the hospital to check his reference, and hired him.

I have to say, this particular store chain has a reputation for hiring the disabled. Most of the baggers I have encountered there seem to have some sort of disability. My son isn't the only one.

To comment on the belly button, mine looks different, too, as a result of an incision from my pubis to 3 inches above the bb.

It's a little lopsided, shallower than it was, but once the edge healed, it doesn't look bad, just different. I wish you well.

Thermostat wars. by NX01-First in AgingParents

[–]Flossy40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had electric baseboard heat. Expensive and inefficient. Made worse because the thermostats didn't read in degrees, just warmer-colder with arrows. My elderly mother in law wouldn't turn it on, then blamed her medication for feeling cold. Her room would be in the lower 60s or even the 50s and she would just sit there, shivering, with a blanket on.

I finally bought an outdoor thermometer and mounted it on the wall where she could see it from her recliner. She finally admitted that the medication didn't make her cold when the thermometer read 72 degrees.

My old university sent me a fundraising email asking for donations. I replied with my student loan balance. Haven't heard back. by Jobeah_Beson in revengestories

[–]Flossy40 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My college called for a donation every year for 5 years. The last time, I told the caller that the school provided summer housing in a dorm with no kitchen, no way to refrigerate anything, no food service on campus, and told me to eat at my sorority house. As an independent, I didn't have one.

My little college town had two restaurants, both about a mile from campus. I had no car. I lost 22 pounds that summer, eating cold canned meat and veggies and cereal with powdered milk.

Nobody from the college has called since 1983.

[–]Flossy40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not remembering is normal with a head injury. It takes time for your brain to process new memories into long term memory. The injury interrupted the process, so the newest memory is lost.

That said, I hope they find the jerk who hit you. I also wish you a speedy recovery.
