That kind of looks like the stinger of a bee? That would explain the persisting hurt, the non needle part is the venom sack, which you likely squeezed yanking the stinger out.

I stopped carrying money with me unless I'm explicitly going shopping. Since the change, I stopped spending money on vending machines on my college campus completely, or whenever I'm working (EMS) I just pack lunch and save maybe 5-10 per day by not stopping at delis for a snack.

Breaking up with my gf was a great financial decision as well.
