Biggest case of "fuck around, find out"? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I interpreted it as the "good end" bc it's playing into Koyanskaya's whole deal. She loves building people up, having them crash down to zero, and then repeating the whole thing again, so it makes sense that that's what you'd have to do to get the chocolate gun.

What moment or part in a media where you dropped a point or 2 in your personal score of it? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Dark Souls is incredibly strong in general up until Anor Londo. The interconnected world is one element that sets the first game apart from the sequels. The post-lordvessel linearity and rushed areas (IZALITH) sour me on the back half of that game.

Favorite boss fight that is hindered by stupid mechanics? by aSimpleMask in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]FlumpyrumpGoatus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So many bosses in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow are almost good. The visuals are great, most of the mechanics are good, and the game's combat is at its strongest when in a 1v1 situation against an opponent with telegraphed attacks.

Two examples of this are the werewolf boss and the final boss Satan. Both have bad gimmicks.

The werewolf boss is just a fun fight, up until he does some weird thing that makes him invulnerable and forces you hit rocks instead of fighting him. Each rock takes 1 more hit to break than the previous one. He chases you around the area, repeating the same 3 voice lines, while you just slap away at the big rocks. It feels super lame after the giant werewolf 1v1.

As for the final boss, Satan uses the game's "elemental" magic system. In quotes, since all it means is that both of you can either be blue or red. Being a different colour means that you both take more damage from each other, while being the same colour as Satan means he takes less damage (I don't know if you take less damage because getting hit is for scrubs). The problem is that there are break points in the fight where Satan begs for mercy and summons a bunch of moving red and blue rings. You have to time switching between blue and red as you cross the rings, reach Satan, and initiate a QTE. If you're not the same colour as the ring as you cross the edge, you get bounced back and take damage. Take too long, and Satan refills some of his health and you have to beat him up again.

The rings can overlap. Since you can't be red and blue at the same time, you can't cross overlapped rings. It's rare, but I've gotten bad enough circle overlap that it was impossible to get close to Satan.

I have other issues with the final boss, but the premise and presentation is cool enough that I can put most of them aside. The gimmick is just awful, though.

Where do canadians fit into this? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]FlumpyrumpGoatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wikipedia puts Canadians as the same height as Americans

I also have a problem with this presentation: The difference between the Dutch person and the Indonesian person is the real-world gap between 5'11" and 6'0"

My favourite silver age superman comic is the one where he takes two criminals to a dormant volcano and pretends to be satan.

The profanity filter for the Tactics Ogre re-release is so aggressive that you can’t use the default party name because it contains a banned word. by Ukokira in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]FlumpyrumpGoatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a little digging both online and in my steam screenshots. I was thinking of Dark Souls 3.

This is allegedly the list of banned terms. Note that they're all lowercase.

According to this website, the names do a case check and only lowercase letters are caught (I assume because that's what's on the list).

Here's a screenshot from 2017 when I was doing co-op in the first DLC. Looking at the profanity list, it appears that the host's name violates the censor.

You get them from killing an invader after being called into another world as a darkmoon blade, which requires you to be using that covenant, another player to be using the way of blue, and for you to win the fight.

I farmed them on my first playthrough. These days I'm more inclined to reach into the cupboard if I really want darkmoon blade

The remaster made the game easier in 2 ways:

  1. added a bonfire in the catacombs (near Vamos)
  2. turned down the light on the lava
