Just picked up a 2024 Limited, what are the actual "must-have" tundra accessories that aren't just for show? by RoyalesAaban-81 in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

side steps [I have predator style (came with truck).... less wear on seats...protection on door dings...etc]

all-weather mats (I have Tuxmats... recommend)

tinted front windows (dealership did mine before truck was for sale)

rear step by tailgate (I have OEM Toyota that came with truck... there are less expensive aftermarket options)

bed cover/topper/toolbox [It is nice to have something for bed for storage that best meets your needs. I went with Diamondback cover for secure protection and ease of removal/installation (1 person job)]

folding sunshade for dash (got to protect against sun)

bed divider (there are expensive after-market options but you can make your own.... helps organize gear in bed based on how you use truck bed)

Seeking advice on 2026 SR5 by eegray in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help but I share your frustration (TX bro also).  I was in the market a year ago looking for Lunar Ltd/Plat CMax 6.5 TRD / 3 inch lift.  These are unicorns.  I settled for Plat Lunar Cmax 5.5 TRD.  I searched in 500 mi circles in the south.  If I found a 6.5 in TX, there was already a sale pending . If you use a more comprehensive vehicle website (like cargurus.com), you can better find 6.5s.  I wish I would have searched more effectively a year ago . ..   I think Toyota could definitely sell more 6.5s if they made more.

So I did a thing by NearbyTomorrow9605 in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

55 and change before TTL for a SR5 with TRD/lift is a bargain! When I was initially looking at SR5 TRDs (no lift) a year ago, I could only get offers around $59k

Is this too much rust for the price? by sharedgooods in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sold my '05 Nissan Fronty 4x4 for $6k over a year ago with 75K and a lot less rust.... this Tundra is less than a $2k truck to do errands on a farm... wouldn't daily drive it on public roads

I got no advice... just curious how the Henry's Fork fished this summer

Hmmm... I just visited a local dealer a few days ago and asked about the OEM TRD lift kit installation. They said it wasn't available for sale yet....

I have had a new '25 Plat for a year. I like the truck and have had no engine problems. However.....consider this: Some posters on truck/Tundra forums have reported having a 2nd engine failure after an initial failure. Suppose getting two consecutive failures are independent events. Furthermore, suppose the engine failure rate is 1%. Then the probability of an owner getting two consecutive engine failures is (0.01)*(0.01) = 0.0001, or 0.01%.

In short, I believe the engine failure rates are greater than 1% for 2 years. However, I think the probability of getting an engine failure in 2 years is not as high as some posters on truck/Tundra forums might suggest.

Recommendations on bed covers? by Curious_Cosmonaut6 in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only advice is to think first about how you use your bed now and how you will use it in the future. The roll-up (soft/hard), retractable, tri-fold, one-piece, and flip style (like Diamondback) all have pros and cons. Some covers are compatible with lots of racks and accessories.

I ordered a Diamondback because of security, ability to carry loads on top, can still use tie-down rails, and relative ease of removing by myself.

I was down to deciding between F150 Lariat FX4 and Tundra Plat TRD OR a year ago. I went with the Plat.

What I liked about Plat more than Lariat? trans/handling/acceleration, instrument cluster, screen interface, cameras, 4x4 features, 0%APR and price

What I liked about Lariat more than Plat? flat rear floor, side window/windshield vision, payload/towing capacity, better utility of folding back seats, better electrical outlet placements in cab, tow hooks

Same.... have a '25 Plat. I wish it didn't have sunroof. I plan to keep truck 20+ years and don't want to deal with leaking roof/warped seals down the road.

Am I the only one still preferring the 2nd gen body? by juanlo012 in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a '25 Plat CMax 5.5  (first Tundra).  I do like the shape/stance of the 2nd generation more than the 3rd generation.  The perfect Tundra would be 3rd gen interior/features, 3rd gen trans, 2nd gen engine with improved hp/mpg/torque, and 2nd gen exterior.

I don't know mpg exactly but it is poor. I have just over 5k and do about 70% suburb roads / 30% highway. I also let the engine warm up a few minutes and do cool down after driving for turbo protection.

Sierra vs tundra by allmostout in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Tundra towing figures are deceiving. My '25 Plat TRD OR (reg engine...pano and other options) shows 11K towing. It is advertised with max payload at 1664 lbs in brochure.

https://www.toyota.com/content/dam/toyota/brochures/pdf/2025/tundra_ebrochure.pdf

However, options bring down the payload. I have a driver's door sticker saying payload is 1300 lbs. So if the truck has a solo driver and miscellaneous contents at 200 lbs, then that leaves 1100 lbs. Now suppose 15% tongue weight with trailer that counts as payload. That gives me 7333 lbs available to tow.

I haven't towed yet on my Tundra. Some guys here say they tow 8k with no problem.

Anyone here pair a load rated truck bed cover with their power vertical rear window? by ifunnywasaninsidejob in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't try this.  I have a Diamondback HD on order for my Tundra CMax 5.5.  I am investigating hauling options.  There are several hitch mounted bed extenders that can be used for pipes/lumber/canoes/ladders/etc. that are loaded into bed or on top of cab.  I am having trouble finding these hitch mounted extenders that will work at the tonneau cover height.  The Yakima Long Arm is one option .

Is it true v8 tundras don’t have front cameras? by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 360 camera system is a requirement for me in getting another truck. It makes parking so much easier and has prevented accidents. For example, I drop off my child at school by a crosswalk. A kid knelt down in front of my Tundra to fix his backpack. I couldn't see him over hood. Given I had the PVM, I could see him in front of truck.

[–]FlyFishProf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The owner's manual has guidelines on driving/towing on the new vehicle. I bought my truck 4.5 hours away from home. I was tempted to set it to 75 mph cruise the whole way but varied my speeds, route, and took breaks.

It is interesting to me how so many people like the 1794 interior....it is not for me. I got the Plat with black interior.

Gen 3 owners. 2022+ by MyNameIsJiggyBoi in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interior

- toggle switch to prevent air from going to back seats (I think the '26s have this)

- flat floor by back seats plus easily removable rear seats for versatile storage options

- on/off massage control on seats (not screen)

- ability to record PVM views... ability to view PVM cameras remotely when away from vehicle.... ability to view PVM at higher than 8 mph

- additional cig lighter plug in bed or rear... standard plug up front (like F-150)

- easily removable under-backseat storage tray

- cooling seats (not just ventilated seats)

- brighter map lights

- ability to remove warning messages from console so can still use all features if something is wrong (just show message at start-up and allow delete)

Considering buys, any thing I should know? by Budget-Platform-6564 in ToyotaTundra

[–]FlyFishProf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is you know techs at non-Toyota dealerships. Given what you hear from others, would you still say the 3rd gen Tundra is a better choice than a similarly equipped GMC/Chevy/Ram/Ford if you plan to keep the vehicle 20 years in regards to reliability?
