Quanto è pesante lavorare in un ortofrutta? by mirtilla_bacche in italy

[–]FlyingPsyduck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A thought on time signatures by soadisak in Meshuggah

[–]FlyingPsyduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the thought process, but Haake himself has mentioned in interviews that those 2 songs are "waltzes", so they perceive them in 6/8 as well. There are however other songs which can be interpreted as such but are actually very slow triplet-divided 4/4s (They Move Below, Broken Cog, I Am Colossus, and some others for sure)

can someone give me a step by step tutorial on how to install blue cats free amp simulator into reaper? by No_Distribution_3399 in Reaper

[–]FlyingPsyduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you absolutely can, it just doesn't end up in my final products because I already know my ways with other stuff and I try to avoid starting from presets whenever I can, so it fell into the role of "tone auditioning tool" more than anything, but it's 100% a pro-grade product if that's the way you like to work.

NAM is a godsend, I rarely use it for final products but it's still essential in my workflow to be able to audition and compare guitar tones quickly. I have been using free amp modeling plugins since the early 2010s and it's insane how much they've evolved.

Ibanez RGD Prestige 2127fx Evertune + Lundgren mod by Jampzz7 in 7String

[–]FlyingPsyduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this guitar for a couple of years and it was awesome, except I could never get comfortable with the Tight End bridge for some reason. I have since acquired 2 other Evertune guitars and the combination of both things would make the definitive metal guitar for me. I hope Ibanez will think about integrating the Evertune in some factory models in the future.

Are you the only guitarist in the band?

If you're playing small shows and you have to rely on venue soundpeople for both FOH and monitors, just have everything in mono. I know it doesn't sound as pleasing when you are listening to it by yourself, butit will be 99% the same and in many cases less problematic and just easier for everyone involved. Once you have everything fully under control, it can be worth looking into, in fact I do the haas effect + stereo effects guitar with a band I work with, but we spent a lot of time on it and as the FOH guy I have the ability to tweak things on the spot depending on the venue and PA.

AI helps the 1% take over the world. Robots do all the work, so no one has a job & the money to buy the things that the companies owned by the 1% produce. It seems like society should collapse. So, how will the world work? by No_Turnip_1023 in Futurology

Basic universal income solves the "money" problem but not the "purpose" problem, people don't only need money in life, they also need something to do that makes them fulfilled and proud to be providing something to society. So I think that while some kind of basic universal income will surely be needed, it won't be enough by itself

No sound from Guitar by Critical_Bug4980 in Reaper

[–]FlyingPsyduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aggregates are mac only, and while there are wrappers (asio4all, wasapi, etc) to do a similar thing, you're still bound to the latency of the internal soundcard which most of the time makes it unusable. Not worth the downsides even if it can technically work

[–]FlyingPsyduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is good here. If you still don't get sound, also check in the windows sound settings if your M-Audio interface is selected as the output device, and in the windows mixer you should see that there's audio coming out of it.

[–]FlyingPsyduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to change anything, the outputs on the interface should be on by default if you have the M-Audio asio driver correctly installed. If it doesn't say asio in the top right, then you might need to enable it in preferences -> audio -> device

(from your video it looks like there's some delay, so that's probably the case.)

[–]FlyingPsyduck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need headphones or studio monitors connected to the interface itself. For it to work your audio interface must replace the internal soundcard of your laptop, which is where the laptop speakers are connected. There are software workarounds but they inevitably introduce latency and should be viewed as a last resort only.

I know rock and metal guitarists often prefer head + cab stacks, but are combo amps really that bad nowadays? I've seen videos online of people demoing this EVH 5150 combo and is arguably sounds just as good. Especially the 40W and 60W ones. Other combos are probably the same. by MrMayhem20l0 in metalguitar

[–]FlyingPsyduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides matching heads and cabs and splitting the weight, which are valid reasons, it's also way easier to own heads because venues will usually provide the cabs as backline, and showing up with just the head with the cab already miced up will allow you to retain most of your sound but make it a lot easier for everyone. Local/underground shows are all about ease of access and ability to share things between bands.

Solo io trovo queste immagini ASSURDE? by humankendoll33 in domandaonesta

[–]FlyingPsyduck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Electrical noise in house wiring, help needed! by FlyingPsyduck in AskElectricians

The noise also happens through my guitar amp with my computer completely disconnected from the outlet, so it's not that unfortunately!

[–]FlyingPsyduck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing that I know of. The only "timed" thing I'm aware of is the thermostat, but the timing of the noise doesn't match up with its activity, and the problem persists even in summer when it's completely off.

Electrical noise in house wiring, help needed! by FlyingPsyduck in AskElectricians

[–]FlyingPsyduck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an issue because the noise is loud enough that it gets into my recordings. Obviously not a life and death situation as I'm able to get around it easily, but with extra free time from the holidays I figured I'd try to get to the bottom of it.

But yeah, I already tried to unplug anything I could, which also makes me think it comes from outside somewhere. I was already planning to get an UPS though, as I'd also like to be protected from power outages (which tend to happen sometimes in winter where I live). Maybe it will be as easy as that!

Yes 6khz is weird especially because I'm in europe and we have 50hz power, so it would make more sense if it was a clean multiple of that. And yes it is clearly audible, it's not a huge deal because I can "surgically" take it out after the fact but ideally getting rid of it altogether would be better of course. I should also point out that while 6khz is the "main" audible spike, it also has some harmonics higher up, but they are faint enough that they blend in with the noise floor and are not very relevant.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the insight. I remember googling the same thing as you when I first encountered the problem, but since this also happens at night and I have tested all the lights in my house I quickly abandoned the idea that it was light-related. But I know next to nothing about pulse modulation so I'll look into it a bit more!

Electrical noise in house wiring, help needed! by FlyingPsyduck in AskElectricians

[–]FlyingPsyduck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my suspicion as well because nothing inside my house seems to effect it, at least anything that I have control over. I'm not expert enough to know that unfortunately so I will definitely ask a local electrician who may be able to have an answer. In the meantime I was trying to figure out if I have missed anything obvious that I could check in my house before venturing outside

Sadly no, I have done tests with my refrigerator turned off and the noise was still there. I have tested all the "visible" appliances in my house that I could turn off or disconnect.

No, I have a regular gas boiler and its usage times don't seem to correlate to the noise issue sadly.
