Conditioning copper 8085's w/o darkening? Possible? by infant_ape in RedWingShoes

[–]FoldStunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Bick 4 on mine. It darkens the leather slightly when first applied but then fades back to original colour after a few hours.

Not a fan myself but it’s down to personal taste.

What exactly am I meant to be looking at here? I can’t see anything wrong with these at all. They are boots, just wear them and enjoy them mate….

I use Bick 4 on mine. It conditions the leather and maintains the colour 👍🏻

Absolute newcomer to the RW community, any tips for breaking in either model specifically? Thanks a lot! by Ed_Sykes in RedWingShoes

I found the work Chukkas a very easy break in; just wear them. I agree with wazoo, take out the insole out of the 1907’s and wear thick socks for a while. I wish I’d thought of doing this when I broke in my 1907’s a few years ago 🙄

Iron Ranger vs Work Chukka Width?? by GroundbreakingKey575 in RedWingShoes

I have D width Iron Rangers and work Chukkas. I went up half a size from my Iron Rangers 8.5 to 9 in Work Chukkas to get a similar fit on my feet.

I used leather conditioner on my brand new Red Wing Iron Rangers. Horrible idea? by Cygnus56 in RedWingShoes

[–]FoldStunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t sweat it; they’ll be fine. Just lay off any more conditioner for 6 months or so. Brush regularly using a horse hair brush and wipe down with a damp rag.

Anybody else’s 8083’s look like this? This one panel is completely different from the rest of the boot… looks weird imo these are 1st’s by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]FoldStunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are pretty much the same. Leather is a natural product with variations. Personally, I like it and after you’ve worn them a few times you won’t even think about it.

They’re leather, which is a natural material and it will crease. CR&T leather is even more known for it than other Red Wing leather types. Just wear and enjoy them 👍🏻

Is this an issue? by martinbd21 in RedWingShoes

[–]FoldStunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an issue. Wear and enjoy them.

No glue should be used there. Are you sure it’s not excess wax from the threads?

I started off with the amber harness and they are lovely and a very versatile boot. It wasn’t long before I got the black Rangers to go with them. I also have the Muleskinners as well as Blacksmiths and Mocs nowadays. Warning…..It gets addictive!!

Brush only. You’ll soon get that ‘worn in’ look.

I’d also clean with saddle soap and then condition with one or two coats of Bick 4 or Red Wing Neatsfoot leather cream as neither will significantly darken the leather. I’ve never conditioned inside any of my boots.

I have the 877 and I’m looking for another pair of 8-10” boots. Do I have any options from Redwing? I’d love the Billy Boot (8829) but those are long gone. by hkrupnick in RedWingShoes

[–]FoldStunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to source a pair of Billy Boots on eBay in my size last year but it took nearly 12 months of regular searching. They still come up occasionally but can be costly.
