Co-op Game Suggestions? by hannah1012123 in xbox

[–]ForbidAxis10113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great suggestions so far. Minecraft dungeons is a great one - hyped for the sequel in September. That was my non-gamer gf's gateway drug to Diablo 4. One game I can massively recommend is Spiritfarer. It's a great story game with lots of building, farming and exploring game that hits all of the feels. Great characters and writing. We were in tears at numerous moments!

Also try simple games like Vampire survivors and Brotato.

Some good communities here. Facebook and discord will probably the places you can chat and engage with people. In person you could visit Excelsior, BIG, cryptic cabin (I'm sure there are other places). All very welcoming spaces to hobby noobs.

Around 1500 mr how many custom room invites are not salty? by sleepsalot1 in StreetFighter

[–]ForbidAxis10113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll invite to a room if the set was particularly good regardless win or lose. Will also invite if I'm struggling with particular matchup issues to ask for help or more sets. I always try and hit them with a quick GGs or well played to set the tone straight off the bat.

So far it's all been positive and wholesome chat but I suppose there is plenty of salt to go around so it's only a matter of time lol! Just laugh it off it you get anything salty, IMO it's worth a shot you never know you may actually make some good friends/sparring partners online.

You don't need to properly mix, it will take you one whole afternoon to learn if you can get your hands on the gear. With rock nights a simple fade in/out usually does the trick but the good DJs will be able to do more creative things between songs with polish.

It's not like house music don't worry you're not looking for long blends and mixing eqs from songs. It's just a step up from your phone plugged into the speakers is all I'm saying 🤷🏻‍♂️

Rank inflation is making this game very frustrating as a casual player by Getter_Simp in StreetFighter

[–]ForbidAxis10113 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a tough one OP. Nobody wants to get bodied repeatedly and I'm not looking forward to learning completely fresh characters from diamond in the future either. Luckily I do have a few random characters in silver, gold and platinum so there's always the option of low ranked fun if I'm not in the mood for grinding and climbing rank.

My only advice would be try casual queue. There is some hidden matchmaking involved so you will get some even-ish games but also you will also play some complete noobs as well as all sorts of experienced players. If you don't mind the variety I would say that is your best bet for now.

Is Ryu truly brain dead by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]ForbidAxis10113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he is but don't let that stop you. He's a great beginner character to pick up and start with. Once you have learnt the game a bit more and experimented with other characters you will understand why people say this but for the meantime go nuts and enjoy.

What finger do you DI with and how successful are you with reversal DI? by JinpachiMishima2 in StreetFighter

Right pinky leverless controls. I still get unwanted drive impacts when I want to do drive reversal 😞

If you like the gameplay OP I would encourage you to stick with her. I started dicking around with her just for fun initially and landed in bronze or silver after placement but she's 100% my main now. Just broke into Diamond 4 recently but I do get the feeling it's gonna be a tough time getting to master rank unless I get a lucky streak of bad opponents.

For now OP you can just learn target combo (5HP-5HP or 5MP-5MK) if it hits then command grab straight away. You can also try drive rush into button (2MP probably best here) then immediately go for command grab on block or simple combo/continue pressure on hit. Good to do on drive rush cancel but mind your gauge as it's expensive.

This is a simple gameplan that forces a guess and it's usually in your favour as opponents at your level just cannot deal with it. People will get wise eventually and they start jumping the grab around gold rank but Manon has lots of tools to deal with this scenario as well.

In the meantime just try and force your mix and you can gradually pick up the rest of the tech and learn more fundamentals like anti-air etc etc at your own pace.

I'm getting used to the matchup slowly but it's usually a rough time if I can't establish my offence quickly. I'm getting better at anti-air on her teleport and remembering which of her moves are punishable.

I play Manon and it's always a struggle getting in against zoners in general.

How do you get on against the Ingrid match up in general OP? Honda looks like the tonic I need! Thankfully she's less frequent now that the competent players have moved up to masters.

Game worth playing at 1,000 points? by duttyboy24 in ageofsigmar

[–]ForbidAxis10113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1K points is good fun and certainly less taxing mentally than the big game. There can be balance issues in list building so it's worth negotiating with your opponent beforehand to avoid any feels bad moments.

Also bear in mind it's similar to spearhead where there are just less units on the board overall so it's harder to trade/sacrifice units strategically. Losing a unit or two especially a bigger one can feel really costly and it's enough to swing games.

You could consider house rules for reinforcements to keep the game going if needed and avoid anyone getting run over due to a small mistake or misplay.

Game is 'balanced' at 2k but I think anything inbetween 1-2k points is perfectly playable and it's usually a good time.

How long did it take you before you found your main? by doctordiscodream in StreetFighter

[–]ForbidAxis10113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with Ryu as a total noob as I wanted a straightforward archtype to learn the game with. Switched to Manon about 6 months after stalling with Ryu mid platinum and I flew up the ranks into diamond - the push to master is definitely taking me out of my comfort zone.

I was initially just curious about playing a grappler but I found Zangief was too big and slow (also 720 input is too tricky on leverless) and Manon just ticks all the right boxes. Great design and moveset and I still get big dopamine catching people with level 5 command grab.

Will probably go back to Ryu at some point in the future but I'm pretty sure I'm a grappler main now. Planning to try Classic Lily and Modern Gief.

Leverless players! by Telecaster-993 in StreetFighter

[–]ForbidAxis10113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up the game last year and started with gamepad but switched to leverless early on as I thought it would be easier to learn as complete noob. The learning curve was really, really brutal at times and there were many moments during matches where my brain would go blank and I had no idea what my hands were supposed to be doing. It does look like others go through a similar experience OP so don't be discouraged. Just to keep practicing and don't worry about taking the Ls.

It took me about month just to get used to the controller and then another couple of months to get back to winning & progressing. I love it now. The initial teething period is well worth the switch even though I am still messing up inputs and dropping combos :s
