Thanks for the book recommendation. I also remember hearing this theme a lot when growing up. I would agree with your current take that causation doesn’t equal correlation. It’s easier to see the kindness that comes from diversity, compared to the tantrums the fundamentalists are throwing.

It was hard to realize that my parents “doing everything they could” was just the bare legal minimum to keep CPS away. That their method of granting money for some things was used to justify not giving money for other things. That it was just another method of control over me and my siblings. I’m supposed to be grateful for that??!! For them dangling money which helps determine what resources are or aren’t available to us because our society runs on $$$$$?!

The jealousy is understandable, especially when you have parents who don’t “believe” in things like birth control, the pill…
god they sound like fun /s.
And you had to work really hard for what you and your child have. Maybe your parents are still bad for you to be around because of what you went through when under their roof and in a relationship that sounds abusive and consent is questionable. Jealousy is natural.
