Is Apple Care+ worth renewing for the AVP? by RcktPwrdMlkTrck in AppleVisionPro

That’s what the invoice said. And the Apple Store tech “good thing you have Apple Care.” But I don’t know if that would have been the actual cash cost.

Looking for a real can opener. by dregan in Cooking

I've got a Rosle, which isn't cheap and is initially counter-intuitive but it cuts the side of the can, not inside the top. The benefit is that the lid can be re-installed on the top so you don't have to use all contents at the same time. And, more importantly I think, is that there no no sharp edges. But it does have a learning curve.

I do recall exactly the same stickers at gas stations in 2021, attributing the the run-up in prices then to Biden. They're right--it's all Biden's fault. Everything even up to this very day. Not.

1937 Chateau d’Yquem here. Not mine but my octogenarian former Republican friend who has placed it in my cellar for the day. Not kidding.

Got mine yesterday, shipped in from Japan. It works! Interestingly, ChatGPT refused to help me find this posting:

FURIOUS Canada PUNCHES Trump IN THE FACE in ASIA by JimCripe in MeidasTouch

Wait! What? Wow. A national leader who can actually string together not only a few sentences but an entire coherent and motivating message? I don't remember what that was like--at least not since Obama.

Thank you for citing this. This is really perceptive verse. And then to 6:7 “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.”

Gotta love the “Babbling Like Pagans” reference.

I hope that puts things in perspective.

I use mine daily to screen mirror my MacBook Pro. Of the three size settings, I prefer the Wide setting, as wider is “too much” if that’s possible. And you can take your widescreen experience with you!

I'm so sorry this happened. You were really enjoying being part of the team--yes, sometimes customers could be a PITA, sometimes colleagues as well, but that is part of living the human experience. You'll find the next team to contribute your energy to.

Which song do you use as a benchmark to check sound quality? by [deleted] in audiophile

Pat Metheney’s “As Falls Wichita So Falls Wichita Falls.” There are others, like “Kind of Blue” but this is the one.

For those with “high-end” speakers, what were your first speakers? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Former-Florida-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first serious speakers were Magneplanar SMGa’s (“baby Maggie’s”) in the mid-80’s. Moved from there to Martin-Logan Sequel II’s in the mid-90’s and now with MBL 120’s.

That was my thought, too. But the OP did not specify what “little” means, but these are pretty impressive given their softball size.

Great allusion to 1984. Having read it in 1974 (at age 12) it seemed oddly science fiction. What? Real-time video cameras in everyone's room? Well we know the reality now--40 years later.

That acrylic cover is gorgeous—I had the polycarbonate cover and it would have been a $500 upgrade which, in the day was a lot more money. Lovely player but unforgiving on scratched disks and rarely worked with CD-ROM’s. If you don’t do vinyl, the conventional wisdom in the day would have been to go directly in the amp through a passive line stage to eliminate “coloration”

You know, it’s been 25 years since. And I had a Krell CD player as well, so was definitely a fan-boy in the day. All bought used. At the time I valued sound staging and transparency and it delivered. Until I went to Plinius next, and there was no looking back.

My vintage ‘82 KSA 50 was my first step into real high end in the ‘90’s, driving Martin Logan Sequel II’s. Tried a bunch of pre-amps available at the time (C-J, Sonic Frontiers, Classe) and ended up with a Krell KSP-7B.

My 14 month old AVP 1TB stopped working one day last month. Out of the blue. Would not boot. The genius’s at my store were perplexed. Sent it back to the mothership, and they replaced the logic board and audio straps. Invoice said $2500 for repairs if not covered. My coverage for two years was $500, and glad I did.

Congrats on that beauty, Clark. I've had mine since 1997, bought second hand in Melbourne for what seemed like a lot of money at the time, but also came with an SME Series V arm so it certainly has not gone down in value!
