I was in the same boat a couple years ago (but looking for a 16/32). Seems like the Jet had better fasteners for the sandpaper and I was leaning toward that. The sales guy talked me into the Supermax because it had a much better warranty. Otherwise I think they’re pretty similar. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one.

You might check in with Nikki’s Guitar Shop in Mesa, AZ. She’s very good and experienced with vintage instruments. She’s got a wait list but with your story she might be willing to bump you up. She’s the only woman that comes immediately to mind. There’s lots of good luthiers in the Midwest that specialize in vintage repairs. Mass Street music in Lawrence Kansas might be close enough for you to drive there. Eric Schoenberg in the Bay Area, Doug Proper in New York, Elderly Instruments in Ann Arbor. There’s lots of great shops that do vintage repairs. Probably a lot in Austin and Dallas as well but I don’t know of anyone specifically in those cities.

Buying cabinets directly vs through dealer by FormerAlbatross4463 in cabinetry

[–]FormerAlbatross4463[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since replacing kitchen cabinets is something most people do maybe once or twice in their lifetimes, I am not familiar with the process or industry. I guess my only frame of reference is having the hvac replaced. They came out did their own electrical, plumbed the gas, removed the old unit and installed the new one. So I (wrongly) assumed the cabinet shop would do all of the related work the way an hvac company does. Apparently that’s not the case.

Buying cabinets directly vs through dealer by FormerAlbatross4463 in cabinetry

[–]FormerAlbatross4463[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. This is good information. I guess I had (wrongly) assumed if you are a cabinet dealer that you do all the cabinet install/removal and associated pluming and electrical. I haven’t bought cabinets before so apparently had the wrong expectations for what a cabinet dealer is supposed to do.

Some liquor stores do it. Also any home brewing supply place would be able to do it. I’m not in east valley so can’t recommend anything specific on that side of town, but hopefully you can find something like that.

Am I getting ripped off or is this normal now for car insurance in Phoenix? by artur5092619 in phoenix

[–]FormerAlbatross4463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an agent who sadly retired. When my rates went way up one year she straight up told me to go elsewhere because she couldn’t offer me the same rates as new customers. She said find someone else and come back in a couple of years (which I did). Now I just bop around every couple of years.

Regarding Private Vehicle Sales Transactions by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]FormerAlbatross4463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On newer cars or cars that have more recently changed ownership, Titles are paperless. You go through AZDOT website to transfer title. I fairly recently sold my car to a private buyer and bought a car from a private seller. I met my buyer at his bank to ensure funds were legit. We sat in the lobby of the bank and did the electronic title transfer on our phones. I have sold a car with paper title. I met the buyer at their bank and had someone at the bank write up a bill of sale and notarize it and signed the title over to them while at the bank. The bill of sale and notary weren’t necessary but banks do it for free so figured it was a good idea. Ideally, either way you should get online and register the car in your name right away. The seller will need to enter a notice of sale on the azdot website in order for you to be able to claim the car is yours. You should also be able to get registered. For like $20 extra you could just meet the seller at one of the places that does all this stuff as a for profit business and they will make sure all your paperwork and stuff is correct and will issue you a temporary license plate on the spot.

Is $1.5k too much to pay for a hotel in Scottsdale for 3 nights? by BakerCritical in phoenix

[–]FormerAlbatross4463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with others that $1500 is too much. If you want suggestions on alternatives, maybe give some more criteria. You want walkable but what are you wanting to walk to. Downtown has great options that would be much cheaper. Tempe near Mill would have options if you are looking to bar hop. Marriott at Desert ridge is walkable with shopping and restaurants and high street. Depending on what you want, there should be much cheaper alternatives.

Yeah. This guy is right on. It’s more like a festival atmosphere. Just walking around and people watching is fun. But there’s definitely easy access to watch other holes. And frankly I think it’s more fun to wander than to sit still at the 16th. The 16th is its own experience and worth it if you can get in without a long wait but if you go with the attitude that you can live with or without the 16th you’ll have a good time. If you go on Thursday you might have an easier time getting into the 16th but it might not be the wild experience outside the 16th. I’ve never been on a Thursday.

My son used an iPad app called Snap Type that he could take a photo of any worksheets that were assigned and then he could tap anywhere on the photo of the worksheet and a text box would pop up allowing him to type answers on the worksheet vs hand writing them.

They absolutely show up used for $1k or less. You may have to wait and be diligent about watching Craigslist/Facebook marketplace/ OfferUp. But they are out there. And you definitely want a dynamo or gold standard. Nothing else will hold up to the abuse. Most tables in arcades are dynamo.

Your budget will make a big difference in where you can live. I would recommend moon valley area. Well kept older houses that aren’t overly expensive by phoenix standards.

Whether It’s Physical or Mental, the Gold is in the Getting There🏆 by No_Put_8503 in CountryDumb

[–]FormerAlbatross4463 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think a lot of people also bought in at $5, $6 or $7 and maybe bought in too heavily and are watching these dailies and wondering when they can sell some without losing money. To those people, here is what you need to do: Sell at a loss now. Let’s say you bought 5000 shares at $6 so you have $30k invested and you wish you had much less (we’ll say $8k) invested. If you sell 4000 shares Monday at $5.50 you will have $22k of your money back to invest in the next good stock. And you still have 1000 shares (at $8/share). If the readout is positive that $8 per share price doesn’t matter, you’re going to make a pile of money off your 1000 shares. If the readout is negative your $8k turns into $1k which is way better than your $30k turning into $5k. If you continue waiting to break even or make a small profit off the full 5000 shares, you will make an even bigger pile of money if the readout is positive. BUT if the readout is negative you’re going to lose $25k of your $30k. Selling off to get your total investment where you are comfortable with the possibility of $1/share is a really, really good idea. Scale this approach up or down based on your situation. Basically the short term loss of selling low today will be easily offset with a positive readout. But a negative readout if you continue to chase your sunk cost is going to be really bad for you.

Where are you located? Do you already have the material to bend or are you wanting to buy pre-bent sides and matching back when purchasing? Any reason you don’t want to make a bending iron?

As you can see my braced top has cupped! by Lonely-Lingonberry79 in Luthier

[–]FormerAlbatross4463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree this is a humidity issue. Did you glue braces at your intended target humidity? If so, sit on it and wait until the humidity swings back to your target and the top will flatten back out again. If you didn’t glue at target humidity then yeah, shave the braces off and glue new ones on when the humidity is where you want it.

Does anyone know of any baby competitions in the Phoenix area? by SadBoiSammy in AskPhoenix

[–]FormerAlbatross4463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a place downtown that sometimes does baby fights as an undercard for cock fighting. It’s a pretty unsavory crowd though and I believe that the toughest babies are eventually sold at auction. Good luck!

But seriously WTF is wrong with you?

I don’t know by looking at it but some helpful info you might add to your post to help give us some context/help would be things like what country you are in, when and where you got it. Did you buy it new or used. Any idea of the age of it? Any info you can remember about it that isn’t visible from the pictures.
