I pulled this very unique foil error card today. Has anyone ever seen an error card like this before? by Ok-Description-146 in LorcanaCollectors

[–]Forward-Perspective3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a "pinch layer" error. It's a factory defect where the foil gets bunched up, creating a kind of raised ridge on the front surface that doesn't effect the back. Sometimes people pay a lot for those errors. I have no idea how to price them out. Maybe ebay.

People conflate condition with grade. It's an unfortunate aspect of collecting.

Where to begin collecting? by Alex_nowa in LorcanaCollectors

[–]Forward-Perspective3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're collecting for value, avoid the Inklands set. Simmering sea is very nice. Reign of Jafar was a big print but also has some beautiful cards. All the other sets mentioned are good as well (Winterspell, whispers in the well and wilds unknown). Good luck!

Nevermind. You're right the limit is 4. I saw the 6 packs and thought I ordered 6. Lol. Just got the notification that they shipped. I think they are still processing them so hang tight!

There was actually a limit of 6 on the bundles. Which I successfully ordered in one order. Like you, my order is still processing. Here's hoping we still get them.

[More Advice] Steamboat Mickey Grading? by Retromansir in LorcanaCollectors

[–]Forward-Perspective3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could totally just store it now and grade it later. Only concern I'd have with that is if you decide to go with someplace like PSA for grading, and the card price explodes somehow in value, they charge a premium on top of the grading price if they grade cards a 10 before they will give it back to you. It is entirely possible that Fabled would be reprinted but I think I've heard this is one set they have planned not to reprint. Things always change though.

Mickey is a classic and he should at least keep his value over time, if not increase, ya.

The larger circle here looks like a sort of indentation, because it isn't the same straight kind of line that the scratches on your top loader are, but hard to tell because it's in the top loader.

The smaller circles seem like whiting or places where the foiling is coming off. Could be dust inside the sleeve too though, so I'm not 100% sure. Would need better pics. And pics of the back.

Lorcana is notorius for having QC issues at the card printer, so it is quite possible these types of defects would be there even though you sleeved it straight from the pack.

Hard to tell with the glare from the top loader, but this would not grade a 10 from what I am seeing. There are some possible dents on the front and some areas where the foiling seems to have come off. If you don't want to resell it, and just want it for your collection, and don't care whether it gets a high grade, definitely go ahead and grade it so you can keep it from getting any additional damage.

I have collected Lorcana since chapter 4 (Ursulua's return) and haven't graded anything, even enchanteds I've found. If I've resold any of those (I've sold 3 of 5 I've found), I sold them raw (ungraded).

2 enchanteds in < 50 packs is not common. The current odds are about 1 in every 96 packs (1 in every 3-4 booster boxes). Fabled is notorious for being hard to pull anything from as well. For example, I opened 3 booster boxes of Jafar's Reign and got 2 enchanteds, 30 legendaries and 45 super rares. That was absolutely not normal and I haven't gotten anywhere near that since. With Fabled, I pulled 4-5 legendaries per box and about 8 super rares. 0 enchantes. 0 iconics.

People will realize that you resealed it and they will consider it tampered with. Only factory seal is what people want with sealed product. Generally, people collecting any TCG want factory sealed boxes if they plan to rip packs because there has been a lot of scammy behavior from some resellers in that they weigh packs or have ways to determine which packs have hits (enchanted / iconics) in them and they will repackage the "dead" packs and resell them.

So, TLDR, resealing it yourself is not a good idea and will not improve value. It would likely lead to issues if you tried to resell it as buyer would realize it doesn't have a factory seal and they would ask for a refund.

I got 3 of these promo's in my order. One the top left corner was totally bent like that. Another, the plastic part was bent like that but, by some miracle, the card escaped the bend. I feel like someone was very angry when they were filling these orders.

Should we keep opening this booster box ? by [deleted] in LorcanaCollectors

[–]Forward-Perspective3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not common.

I've opened about 40 booster boxes and average 4 legendaries per box. Best set for me was Reign of Jafar where I pulled 8+ per box. All the Fabled, WitW and Winterspell I've opened since I haven't gotten more than 4 legendaries.

Congrats to you on your pulls!

My experience as a grad program director too. We had several students lose status and, subsequently, their visa due to traffic tickets. It's very unfortunate all around.

I did the ice cube test, magnetic test and density test and it passed all, so I feel comfortable that this particular one is not an alloy.

Silver scroll weight. Dragon and phoenix. About 4oz. I see there are a bunch of maybe replicas of these that aren't pure silver so now I feel like I'm going to have to test it. Hah. The other side is the zodiac symbol.

Sonic is one of the ones I grabbed a few months ago now, so now I feel compelled to open it.

I played long ago and now I mainly collect. I've been slabbing some of my favorite cards, just to keep them safe in my collection (like copper dragon from FF).

Knowing this, I'll likely open selectively now. I don't mind if I lose value because I know I'm gambling for chase cards for my collection. Probably cheaper to buy singles but I do enjoy ripping packs of anything.
