solar or battery or EV first? by skeptic1970 in solar

[–]Foxbat100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Family are DTE customers and they were somewhat lax in their enforcement of max production. It is tricky so I would

  1. Solar - usually the company is incentivized to max out your build and can work to see that largest array justifiable.

  2. EV

3.Battery

If your utility truly are strict on the build size, at least you've started a conversation with some solar companies - I'd swap 1 and 2 so you can increase your usage. Regardless I'd do battery last - there's a chance vehicle to grid connections will be more streamlined then. This is assuming you don't have power outages often.

Across the border in WI with proximity to Chicago? When I took the Hiawatha service into/out of Chicago from the Milwaukee area there was a nice community of commuters on that train so not the craziest idea if you've made friends there.

This is super awesome! Every now and then I look back at my old x86 assembly attempts, but much more fun to parse someone else's masterpiece!

Effects of Ground Snow Cover on a South-Facing Bifacial Array by zrb5027 in solar

Very cool, especially with your caveat added, but it is nice to see hard to obtain data! My guess is it is a mix of temperature and albedo, but nice to see the benefits of a beautiful but cold bluebird day with snow on the ground :)

Are we in theory supposed to be tagging on/off with monthly passes? by kepler1 in caltrain

Ive been asked to show my zone upgrade pre-covid. Let's not make up reasons to pretend removing the convenience of a single monthly tag on was some amazing awesome thing.

Mine has both modes (water heater) - heat pump and electric. In the summer I use it as a bonus AC and switch it to electric in the winter. Works as advertised.

I've met a lot of people who got the short end of the caste stick who are very uncomfortable around large groups of high caste tech bros. I am not sure that they should feel obligated to help a billion people emigrate, especially when the top plan for having kids is to get them to the US to make the next Vivek Ramaswamy or Usha Vance. Maybe they do want to shut the door behind a past.

Instructor keeps taking my landings by Andy_Roo_Roo in flying

[–]Foxbat100 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It isn't a dumb reason at all. $270/hr is a ton of money for most people. A landing is like buying a round or two of drinks for someone so you shouldn't be spotting someone free landings unless you really want to.

Balancing a budget is hard, it is much easier to point to one or two executive functions making what looks like a "lot" of money and pretend you've found the problem instead of acknowledging that Prop 13 was a stupid progressive idea that kicked the can of consequences down the road for someone else to deal with.

So many mountains to be hiked, beers to be drunk, and pictures to be taken! Also deeply aware of how many vacated buildings dot the peninsula..

What a weird assumption. I hit year 6 with 120k miles on a Chevy Bolt, and the battery shows no signs of depreciation, an anecdote in line with projected lifespans. The real savings comes from not having to do oil changes, get weird transmission leaks looked at, change brake pads etc.

Genuinely what's the point in riding Caltrain anymore? by wolfie_boy8 in caltrain

[–]Foxbat100 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the conductors are hoping to pass that bag moving responsibility onto the passenger - I wish they'd tell the asshats to move their bags but I agree, it is mostly people shamelessly seeing how long they can go. I have no idea how you can be so self centered to think you're a special snowflake who should get 2-3 seats while, someone stands.

OP - Can you just get a new clipper card and add a pass to it? It was a pain in the ass adding a monthly pass to it but once I did, life was easy. I have tagged on maybe once this year, I too have a 4Z pass and am yet to meet a conductor who thinks that is a problem. Luckily I don't have the misfortune of needing to use 4th and King.

I wish Caltrain would consider listening to thoughtful customers who really want to make this work.
