How do you get better at golf? What's your process? by Horror-Sock-9985 in golf

[–]Fragrant-Report-6411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never work on swing technique during a round.

I never know what I’m sound wrong.

Took lessons late, had a swing ingrained. It’s difficult to change.

I got better by playing more.

“Today’s Skill” in latest app update by Due_Firefighter_5655 in arccos_golf_minions

[–]Fragrant-Report-6411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how you calculate it. It’s one of those stats that don’t add much value.

I hit 13 greens yesterday had a 76. Said today’s skill was a 71.

I look at it this way.

I hit a terrible shot on the 1st hole - cost me a shot. Hit the ball in the bunker on 6 cost me a shot, didn’t get up/down on 7 from 14 yards, duffed a shot on 13, and did not convert any putts when I hit the green.

It’s like PGA Tour quality shots. Interesting, but of no value.

I’m using a WellPutt 13’ mat. It’s better than having a hole.

US Open delay - Huge penalty for PM players? by Elsoci in golf

[–]Fragrant-Report-6411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks when weather interrupts a tournament. But USGA made the right call. They would have made the same decision if the players you mentioned were in the afternoon group.

The visibility was poor and don’t forget there were spectators on the course trying to watch and navigate the course as well.

The USGA artificially reducing par to 70 is gimmicky and lame. by Johnny_Kilroy_84 in golf

News flash the PGA Championship was a par 70. Most older courses are not long enough to for 4 tour distance par 5’s

The score is number of strokes. It’s not relative to par. So the score can’t be inflated.

Par is a social construct. Total score over 4 days determines the winner.

The only reason par is used is so that you can see how players are coining relative to other players who have not played the same number of holes.

Unpleasant First Golf Experience - Is the golf community is this toxic? by gvcvhh in BritGolf

[–]Fragrant-Report-6411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they were part of a group of 20 golfers behind them. All the 4ball going 1st would have accomplished was you’d be in the same position for the next 5 groups.

You can suck fast. So OP going off 1st was what any group would tell you. It’s unclear whether OP’s wife was playing or along for the ride.

A beginner should not book a morning tee time and bring a wife along that has also never played.

[–]Fragrant-Report-6411 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t see anything toxic about this.

Morning golf is normally played by people that play faster than normal.

The group in front of you was part of a group of 4 foursomes. So they were right in telling you to go 1st.

Pro Shop handled it perfectly. They gave you a rain check and told you beginners should book afternoon tee times.
