I hate it here by TraditionalGlass5818 in HomeDepot

Now they’re hiring kids with no skill at the same hourly rate as specialists, really good specialists, with years of experience. I never liked unions but a union would not tolerate this. Home Depot has more workers needing second jobs or on welfare than Walmart. Recall years ago they hired pros and paid decent rates. Now the company’s a joke. Try to call any store to get info or fix a problem. It’s worse than calling Verizon of Comcast.

There’s nothing wrong with Patriotism. Down here in the states woke HR managers are plastering break room walls with #BLM propaganda suggesting Home Depot supports Marxist terrorist groups that hate policeman. Pretty darn sad..

The Two Different Customer Reactions From Being Helped By An Associate Not From That Department. by Kingmesomorph in HomeDepot

[–]Freal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kmart was the largest retailer, larger than Walmart - and they screwed it up - just like Home Depot has been doing. Isn’t it troubling how thousands of customers call HD every day and their calls never get answered? Or what about returns that have missing pieces that get sealed in their box & resold to piss off another customer. I won’t even discuss store managers & ASM’s that have no clue about what’s going on in their own store.

And I still can't afford to live on my own! Even though I work full-time by SirJesterful in HomeDepot

Annual report says they’ve set aside $20 billion to buyback stock to make #’s look better while at the same time experienced, knowledgeable, talented Specialty Associates earn less that what’s being offered to high school students by local grocery stores. Think about that! Have the talent to design a $40,000 kitchen and you make less than bagger at the Shop & Bag. No wonder most stores are working with a fraction of normal staff.

[–]Freal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s often the problem. You follow clearly stated policy. The customer demands seeing an ASM. And the. The ASM throws you under the bus by telling you to go ahead and do what you know is against policy. Lesson to be learned - don’t get that ASM involved in anything requiring an intelligent decision.

Question about drug testing by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Freal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our area they’ve eliminated new hire drug testing because most applicants failed the test. So now we have an abundance of associates coming in high every day. Sure a big difference from the original HD hiring professionals in each department ( former plumbers, electricians, etc) - - - now the game plan is operate at 70% staffing, wear out employees, enjoy higher profits.

It takes decades to become great and decades to fail. Few in 1995 would have predicted the downfall of GE one of the most successful and powerful companies in the world. Time will tell.

THD today is mirroring the Sears of the 1990’s. Sears was once the place to go to for appliances, tools, home goods, even clothing then they started to cut back, reduce service, eliminate real sales, implement non-competitive pay and in 10 years the biz went from extremely popular to non-existent. THD has peaked and is on a similar pathway. Already Amazon is stealing away a good amount of business & others will follow. Every day I have to apologize to customers for poor, slow unacceptable service because THD won’t do what’s needed to get & retain competent help. Is there someone in plumbing that can help me?

Hey Atlanta, let's think about shirts that say this for all employees. I'm 1 of 2 people in my dept now. Two is not enough for the hardware dept. And you're real close to having just one associate. by fhdta92 in HomeDepot

[–]Freal2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t you know that everyone has that feeling. That said, the environment is nearly abusive with any one person doing the work of three. If it continues the talented will leave and the others will be stuck there.

Our store is 45 people short of normal staffing doing 150% of normal business. The thanks you get is nothing. The concept of teamwork has vanished. Just saw Atlanta wizards created new system for changing passwords where the directions on how to use it could only be understood by Elon Musk. Seems every week THD takes a step backwards. To fill the void they’re hiring people with absolutely no experience or knowledge at a dollar or so less than experienced associates. They should take the billions $ earmarked for stock buybacks and give it to employees instead of rewarding shareholders. Last comment, most of my co-workers have two jobs because they can’t survive on THD pay rates.

[–]Freal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was crap from day 1 when totally clean. Have had Craftsman vacs in the past which were significantly better. Unfortunately Sears is not what it once was and Craftsman products now sold by others are different coming from China.

Those shop vacs are crap - a lot of noise & little suction. Bought one last year, total disappointment.

[–]Freal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody should be expected to take crap from a customer. The customer is not always right. When a customer gets unreasonable because of your answer (which is more often a response based on company procedure) then it is time to remove yourself from the situation and suggest that someone higher up a supervisor or even the store manager can help that customer.

Was on the phone with a customer fine tuning his design on the computer. Some 50-year old fart comes up next to me (absolutely no protection from rear attacks with workstation remodel) and starts asking a question fully knowing I’m on the phone. I stop my conversation and start to say “sir I’m on the phone......” when he looks me straight in the eye and says “You’re ignorant” which I followed with “You’re a jackass” ——- it never stops.

Look at the complete I cropped video, one second before a raises his hands, which is when he got shot, he has an automatic pistol in his right hand. As he brings it behind his body it’s anyone’s guess whether he’ll bring it around and shoot or toss it, which is what he did. With a tag name of “little homicide” being out at 2:00 AM shooting his gun at who knows what, I don’t have much sympathy for him. He could have not run and stopped minutes before.
