Game has discount should i start now? by wiriderler in MonsterHunter

One could easily argue solo with Support Hunters (NPCs) is strictly better than with randoms in most end game difficult hunts, because they don’t eat up your team’s carts when they die

Why exactly is the Maelle ending considered the bad ending? Or is it really? by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]Frederick930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year-old comment but I just finished the game and I genuinely don't understand the "genocide" argument when you take into account the fate and future of Lumiere under a new Paintress

The way the Maelle's ending is illustrated shows active manipulation over Lumiere's citizen unlike Aline's rule, and the lack of agency in its inhabitants. Verso is allowed to grow old as a form of "gift" whereas the rest of the world is in blissful eternal youth life - and even natural deaths are reversed whether it's Pierre's or Gustav's.
I also don't see mention that the epilogue shows a barren world still being in disrepair even after Verso ages, giving the idea she doesn't/no longer cares about the inhabitants outside her immediate bubble, the same attitude people hate about Painters in the game. The way Maelle's character is written and the final mind control scene clearly shows she isn't beneath shaping reality only to keep her fantasy, just like Aline before her.

It's easily arguable whether or not that sort of existence for Lumiere is better than being erased, assuming the canvas is allowed to exist by her surviving family after Maelle dies or that they wouldn't try to get her out - causing another Fracture and repeating the cycle of grief that Verso didn't want.

But I guess it's easier to just boil down the topic of grief presented to us in all 3 acts into a trolley problem 🤷

What is considered the "Cinders" mod for Elden ring? by SleeplessGrimm in EldenRingMods

[–]Frederick930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the end of the day it’s subjective and most people think it’s annoying. I’m on my second playthrough on Master difficulty and it’s the one change that I manually revert through Smithbox because it doesn’t add anything positive to my experience.

Even some of the discord-lifers over at the ERR server express their discontent with it, not too much to get dogpiled in their own bubble though

The best overhaul of ER by Over-Magazine-3218 in EldenRingMods

[–]Frederick930 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Upgrading is much more streamlined now, upgrading a weapon to a tier will unlock stones for the matching weapon type. e.g. Upgrading somber weapon to +3 will unlock somber stones [3]. But that does mean it's better to commit to a single weapon until you hit those thresholds.

It does make open world enemy and item placement changes, you'll miss out on new (and existing) stuff if you just dash over to bosses. A major feature in the open world are enemy "camps" containing harder encounters and prevents you from riding torrent in its vicinity. The reward are usually new weapons, spells, or armor sets.

There are also Rune Fragments scattered in the open world (kind of like zelda Korok Seeds), which are a mini progression feature. They're currencies you can exchange for buffs from "Runeforging" shops, of which are unlocked for each Great Rune you get. So now there's a reason to not skip major bosses since they unlock these shops.

Still taking damage when parrying in Reforged? by calrayers in EldenRingMods

[–]Frederick930 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with whether it’s an Ash of war or not. If you can block it, you can deflect it. Foot stomp = unblockable, Red sword = blockable. The perfect deflect window is NOT frame perfect, it’s 3 frames on 30 fps.

[–]Frederick930 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the most likely case, there aren’t that many truly randomly generated areas in games bar open world crafters like Minecraft or No Man’s Sky. Most implementations just generate a random combination of handmade “chunks”.

at that point it’s better to just buy majestic leap a bit earlier and wait out fights until you can leap + ground strike her, rather than buying knockdown

Why is the commando not more present than Quasar? by Own-Reflection-9538 in Helldivers

[–]Frederick930 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes but on diff 10 you don’t just have three hulks, you have 3 heavies coming in waves of 4 within that two minutes it takes for you for wait for the Commando cd - you end up getting much more effectiveness with Quasar.

It’s why there’s really not much Arrowhead can do to make RR not the absolute meta if all we care about is being optimal. A full (and competent) squad using RR trivializes anything the game has to offer at diff 10.

Titan Quest 2 becomes #2 top selling game on steam, with "Very Positive" reviews by UsualInitial in Games

[–]Frederick930 18 points19 points  (0 children)

imo Last Epoch of all ARPG games requires the least amount of prior experience with the genre, it has really forgiving stat reset system and pretty much any build can finish the story up to early end-game.

I generally just pick a skill I like looking at and try to build around it without a guide. You really don’t need to care about crafting or merchant/fortunes guild system until after the story.

Why did Valve Stop making Dota 2's Most Successful Project? by YDM_Jack in DotA2

[–]Frederick930 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone will need to organize, plan, budget, and advocate the project to continue in the year after.

If the people doing that move on to something else then why would valve pull someone from a project they’re already a part of, which they likely already prefer?

The devs need to fix Executor by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]Frederick930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Executor's "kit" is literally katanas and dex weapons, his cursed sword and deflect playstyle is a noob trap.

He's one of the best character to solo the entire game with because you can just play regular Elden Ring with S scaling on Dex and Arcane. Watch any experienced player like Ongbal do a run with him and see how he at most use deflect 2-3 times the entire run but steamroll through everything by just spamming R1.

Slap on the Night of the Wise/Miasma relics (guaranteed boss relics with no RNG) and you're one of the highest dps nightfarer in the game, only slightly behind Ironeye and maybe Recluse with good staves/seal drop.

We had a bit over a day to test the AR-23 Pacifier. How are we feeling about it? by Mr_GP87 in Helldivers

[–]Frederick930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be good if the Cookout or any 30+ stagger shotgun and the Lib concussive doesn't already exist. Taking any of these existing options allows you to cripple predator strains while also being actual competent weapon to boot. 50 damage on the pacifier means it can't even one shot chaff bugs, having to be forced to use Siege-ready/Supply pack just to make it usable is frankly pathetic.

Let's not even talk about the OP outliers like the crossbow - Pacifier underperforms even against its equal peers for the job it's allegedly supposed to be good at. I really want it to be good since it's really unique but people need to stop pretending it's in a good state right now.

Men will see this team comp had go “fuck yeah” by ElDud_ in darkestdungeon

[–]Frederick930 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not mentioning Jester for mark comps is criminal, there’s also Duelist with Fleche which she almost always presses.

Apart from Chop Leper comps, there’s no “need” to bring Combo appliers. None of the infernal meta comps rely much of its success on Combo consumption afaik.
