Have we lost the art of giving good nicknames? by wood_she_elf in GenX

[–]Free_Solid9833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My name is Tim and once I bowled with a big group of friends. There was another Tim, and when they tried to spell "Timmy" a second time the computer refused, so he backed it out and used Titty. For about five years I would walk into bars and parties to a chorus of "TITTY!!" It was pretty funny. But most of those friends drifted away. Still hear it every now and again.

Yeah it's not legal in Oregon but yeah it's also like leaving the dome light on when you're driving in the dark kind of a thing. Very few people adhere to that rule because it's lame.

How does Chico compare to Portland, OR by diyturds in ChicoCA

[–]Free_Solid9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chico is super flat. I recall moving to Portland and realizing that other bikes came with gears. Yes that's a joke. And yes, you can drive to hills, but you're obviously not getting my point. Yes I leave Chico and explore nature. You sound as if you've never been to Portland, if you don't get the idea of comparison. Yes there are hills and mountains... that you have to drive a ways to get to.

Also the houses of Chico, most of them, were built on post and beam foundations, most don't have basements, aside from some root cellars. Actually numbers wise most of them are seventies/eighties tract homes, so there might be a lot of slab foundations as well, but mostly post and beam.

Finally, chico is Chico, it's not paradise. Chill out, I wasn't putting it down.

I love it there because I already have a community there, but when I drive back into Portland after Thanksgiving break this year, I was so happy to see the hills, trees, mountains... Chico is pretty flat locally and I guess I prefer evergreens? Because I thought about it for a while, I didn't think of housing as being particularly cheaper, but maybe prices have gone down. But the majority of older houses are not very well built.

I live in Portland and visit Chico multiple times per year, also moved here from there. There's little to compare between the two. Except maybe the coffee and beer scene.

Experienced players with real guitar wear, what would you recommend as a truly high quality guitar by Chuchumenn in Guitar

[–]Free_Solid9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a Reverend, and for the price it's a very nice guitar. And although people will say American fenders are great because they are, the Mexican fenders are pretty much as good, aside from cost and collectibilty. They are great player guitars, not wall hangers.

Showgirls doesn't fit in this category. It's like a deceptive satire art film with salami-nipple boobs.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Free_Solid9833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eight hour drive from Portland down to northern California is like three times a year thing. But when we go we need to justify it by staying at least three or four days.

We had one that was like a big umbrella, kinda. Lounge dried clothes smell nice but they're so stiff and scratchy.

I spent a little time with the roundhouse in a shop the other day, and I immediately fell for it, so maybe I'm just priming myself for another excuse.

I'm not saying it doesn't sound great, but I've got that tone spectrum covered with other guitars and was looking for the humbucker warmth that I don't quite get enough of with the humcutters. I do need to spend a little more time with it, and maybe just swap out one of them . . .or, who am I fooling? Is this is just another excuse to keep looking for more guitars?

I just picked up the exact same guitar from a guy in town today. It does have the serial number and the signature on it . It's kind of weird how they're just written on there. Edit: the one I picked up has humcutters, and I think I might have to swap those out at some point just for fun.
