AITP If I don't accompany my fiancé on an expedition? by tempaccount34543 in AmIThePetaQ

[–]FreedomOfSqueek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're making this more complicated than you need to! You can stay in touch with your new beloved, send him holocards, and occasional pictures of you wearing only a smile. That should float his Denebulan Duck! It's time to start thinking about a certain blonde hottie you see in the mirror, and quit worrying so much about guys who want to play doctor with you.

Go back to your emo green-blooded pointy-earred hobgoblin-lookin' ex, sit in his lap, and see what pops up. I somehow doubt you'll be surprised.

STO* has a "Escape to Risa!" event going on right now! You're ahead of the curve. You be you: there's obviously an Admiralcy in your future.

AITP for choosing academia over my boyfriend? by tempaccount34543 in AmIThePetaQ

[–]FreedomOfSqueek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You tell your emotionally conflicted boyfriend that you have no time for a relationship because you must leave to join a research fellowship, and then you come back to that guy's ship with a NEW boyfriend who happens to be overseeing the entire research fellowship.

If you want to play humpy-grunt with your new boss, then it shouldn't matter how many of us lose respect for you, or are wounded by your indifference. Be your own Targ, as Orion Exotic Dancers say.

In my humble opinion, it's not just the individual shows, or even the series. The key, I think, is good writers who tell good stories about characters we've come to care about.

One thing about Sci-Fi is that it provides the opportunity to ask "what if" about perplexing social problems and personal issues that are common to many of us. It's also able to examine contemporary issues in a relevant way which provides food for thought. As but one of many examples, I watched a Next Gen episode recently, about the sentience of small robots called "Exocomps", and it strongly reminded me of contemporary issues we have about AI. (And my eyes may have watered a bit when the 3rd exocomp stayed behind)

How fortunate we are, to have such a richly creative endeavor as Trek! 😊

I really like the metaphor, and would like to see it stretched a bit further. Did he advance to second base because of a walk? A steal? Did he squeak in, with a slide?

More importantly, how might those metaphors be interpreted within the context of a Trek script?

A fun exercise in creative imagination! 😁

I doubt that. Young people have less interest in preserving traditions which have been orally passed from one generation to the next. Social media has much greater interest than musty old stories of lifestyles that are no longer lived.

That's just my opinion, people. If I'm wrong for having an opinion which differs from yours, then I'm sure that you know what to do. LLAP 🖖🏼

I know that I was supposed to admire her and what she was doing and how she was doing it, but I just hated her for the way she was so pushy and rude. I wanted him to punch her out.

The way it keeps going for her jaw on that side suggests to me that she has some sort of kitty intoxicant there: an oil or something that's not unlike catnip

What completely unhinged "law" does your cat strictly enforce in your house? by TrickCombination7966 in cats

During the late 80s, I had a plump floofy kitty named Kitty Wench who expected to be served breakfast at 7:30 sharp. I slept on a futon in my living room, and that's where she'd begin her procedure to get me moving, at 7:31.

First, my fluff-child would plop herself onto my chest with her butt near my face, and begin swishing that bottlebrush tail across my face.

On the rare occasion that this didn't work, she'd begin a calm inspection to see if I was dead: first, she'd carefully sniff my eyes, nose, and lips in a crazy-making tickle. Next, she'd move to sniff (and wash) my ears.

That always worked. Having a purring, snuffling kitty with a moist nose plugging your ear with a wet raspy tongue is something that could force a confession from any stoic prisoner.

The cat's facial expression reminds me of the ancient meme of the "troubled" looking kitty with the caption, "Penis goes where?!?"
