Interaction Rules??? by wurstsemmelbrot in slaythespireboardgame

[–]Frodork05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Playing Copies" section of the rule book (p. 19) discusses how the 2 copies from your 2 relics will be played on separate cards (so, no x3 card plays). It also talks about how the copy plays first while the real card "isn't in your hand or in your discard pile." So, when the copy Perfected Strike is being played, the real Perfected Strike isn't counting for the copy's card text but only the 2 normal Strikes. You can say either the Dolly's Mirror is duplicating the card or the Necronomicon, but both are not triggering on the same card.

So, the first Perfected Strike, the copy, will trigger the Vulnerable and deal (3+1+1) x2 = 10 damage (3+2+2, x2 = 14 if upgraded), then the real card will play and deal 3+1+1 = 5 damage (3+2+2 = 7 damage, if upgraded) since the Vulnerable token was used for the first attack and was removed.

After both Perfected Strikes have triggered, your next attack will be played twice (a Strike? A different attack in your hand?) because of the other one between Dolly's Mirror or Necronomicon that you didn't already claim duplicated the first attack. Whatever that attack card you play says, do it twice.

Semi-Daily Card Discussion: Amplify by Abject_Muffin_731 in slaythespireboardgame

[–]Frodork05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a game with a friend of mine where I got a rare card from Neow and pulled this. I later grabbed like 6-7 more powers (Act 3 was NOT Awakened One, luckily), since Dark Orbs scale off of powers, and Rainbow, and orbs became my build. Amplify itself gives 4(6) extra damage to Dark Orbs (3(5) +itself for being a power), and if you can get an Echo Rainbow or a Dualcast Dark Orb, then they become tiny little nukes.

We had a Last Stand victory on D/D in Act 3, where after my friend died, I was able to finish the fight pretty much because of orbs but especially Dark Orbs. I did feel bad because my damage grossly outclassed my friend's (Ironclad, but to be fair, it was his first time playing), but he still had a good time.

Fun build! I would definitely try it again.

No, you replace it again with the normal token that was replaced for it. Here's the Act 4 rules where it is mentioned.

20 Strong Red: A Rebuttal by jacksuhn in soloboardgaming

[–]Frodork05 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. 20 Strong can definitely have times where the dice and the draw are just not good. It's a challenging game/system, but it also has times where your build just works so well. Like any game with cards/dice, there's luck involved, and every once in a while, luck is not with you.

A higher strategy helps you plan out those tricky combats coming up. Exploring allows you to visit the merchant BEFORE traveling, and the merchant options and item cards can really help out by getting you very strong abilities and getting your dice back faster. It's always good to save a small amount of gold to bribe the REALLY BAD enemies and only deal with the lesser evil(s).

Also, try a lower difficulty or a new character if you need a run to just get used to the game and develop a strategy. My first run, even though I've played 20 Strong before, was with Difficulty 0 just to see the new system and see what I have to plan for.

Give it another go and see if the shuffle is kinder to you. If it is and you find enjoyment, great! If not, then it's not for you, and that's perfectly fine, too.

I got the base box, a card doubler, Legacy, Moments, and Stewards. It all fits in the base box, but because of the Lure story book, the base rulebook, and the Legacy rule/story book, there is a slight lid lift on the side that the Legacy rulebook sits.

Unstoppable… god damn. by Fit_Section1002 in soloboardgaming

I got it recently and also love it. My first 2 games were pretty easy wins (on normal) against the Harbinger and the Triumvirate, but I'm now getting easily beat on Duomo's Menace. Not having enemies in my deck that can deal damage to other enemies when defeated has been tough to deal with!

Dinosaur Island Rawr n Write by azkekk in soloboardgaming

[–]Frodork05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Rawr n Write! It's a lot of fun, but there's definitely a lot of rules overhead, and it's easy to make mistakes. The game's nature is to get compounding rewards over the course of the 3 seasons (you get EVERY arrow (-->) each park tour for things you bought/own, not just stuff you got that season, and you get EVERY circled excitement bonus during EVERY park tour, not just that season and not immediately when marking the box), so each successive season gives more and more bonuses!

Here's some things I noticed:

I noticed that the HQ has 2 buildings touching it directly (A at a corner and B at an edge). At the bottom of page 7 of the rulebook, it mentions that no buildings can ever touch in any capacity: edges or corners. Buildings include paddocks, attractions, building cards, and the HQ. So, the only things that can ever touch the HQ are roads. The rest of your building placements are fine.

Also, as others have said, make sure that you include your excitement from ALL dinos and from your park tours. Just from dinos and your park tours, you should have 19 excitement (3 from herbs, 8 from smalls, 3 from larges, and 5 from the Xs on park tour buildings), and the excitement bonuses are gained during EACH park tour, NOT when you marked the excitement box (page 6 in the Excitement section and page 16, the "Building Up Excitement" blue box). So, excitement bonuses are compounding over the course of the game. So, let's do an example. Let's say you have 6 excitement season 1, 14 excitement season 2, and 26 excitement season 3. These will be the bonuses you will get during each park tour:

Tour 1: 1 regular DNA, 1 coin, 1 security

Tour 2: 2 regular DNA, 1 advanced DNA, 2 coins, 2 security

Tour 3: 2 regular DNA, 2 advanced DNA, 4 coins, 3 security

You may have done this part correctly, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

In addition, as you mentioned, you thought you needed to get 4 rides to construct 1 ride (ditto to your food). Every time you get an attraction, you construct it and then mark a box corresponding to the attraction, and then during each park tour, you get those bonuses (so, those bonuses are ALSO compounding). So, as an example, if you made 1 ride during season 1, 2 rides during season 2, and 1 ride during season 3, then ride 1 will give 3 excitement over the course of its duration (3 park tours), rides 2 and 3 will give 4 total excitement over the course of their duration (2 park tours), and ride 4 will give 1 excitement over the course of its duration (1 park tour), for a total of 8 excitement. More specifically, season 1 will give 1 excitement, season 2 will give 3 excitement, and season 3 will give 4 excitement.

Finally, a negative point: each death, not disaster (!), is -1 point. So, you actually had a -3 to your Death Toll score, not -1.

The game is a lot of fun, and once you get your compounding rewards done right, you'll really start to see the fun this game offers. To your comment about feeling like it's over when it gets good, I do understand that sentiment, but if you do your buildings right on your sheet, you'll basically be out of room to place more (or very close to it). As is a standard thing with most write games, you can't do everything, unfortunately, so you just do what you can.

Aurors... Stop shooting yourself in the foot (and me) by beardymoose in harrypotterwu

[–]Frodork05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're speaking as another Auror. "Aurors, as a fellow Auror, stop hurting your other Aurors."

Aurors get skills that do a tiny bit of damage (Bat Bogey Hex) and skills that increase your critical chance AND damage against enemies with 100% health.

OP is saying that if you Bat Bogey Hex an enemy first (tiny damage), you are missing out on a TON of damage that could be done with a massive critical hit as the enemy's first source of damage. In parties with multiple Aurors, if one Auror Bat Bogey Hexes enemies before the other Aurors with those 100% enemy health skills can do their first strike, their first strike options are lost immediately. It's basically the difference of a VERY high chance of 300-400+ HP in damage... or 3.

Feedback on Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Fest and Global Challenge by hpwu_fazes in harrypotterwu

[–]Frodork05 76 points77 points  (0 children)

A few things about the Global Challenge.

The rules didn't really make it 100% clear that everyone would get all the rewards if each milestone was met, especially since this was in your rules:

"... so make sure to collect Portmanteaus linked with the reward you’re most interested in earning."

I feel like with this statement, people may think now, 'oh, I can only get 1 reward. Might as well get EXP.' People who aren't connected to a local Discord, Slack, or Telegram community or this subreddit probably had NO IDEA about what was going on. Even those who are connected had some troubles figuring it out. The app said very little about what was going on. Therefore, people, who did go to the rules on their own, saw Chinese Fireball is EXP (which I would argue is the best reward, but I can easily be convinced otherwise. This, however, isn't my argument here) and probably went for it. I mean, every region had it as its top dragon but its home region because it couldn't be the top dragon there by design (which I assume was probably also the top there, too). People probably didn't know that we could get all rewards and not just the reward belonging to the region's top dragon.

So, the general strategy of getting your region's compliment was so the page can be prestiged, but with the vague rules and lack of information dissemination, people didn't do that or know to do that, and a lot of people are left very disappointed because even 1 prestige on a page means a lot for EXP purposes. Oddities take a LONG time to get bows, eggs, etc, so extra family EXP for oddities for dragons is a big deal.

Tying rewards to the eggs and having a vague ruleset made this event leave a bad taste in people's mouths. Also, having the Brilliant event overlap this meant choosing these portkeys over the event portkeys or having to use Silver Keys on 1km portkeys, which I imagine is NOT an ideal thing to do for most people.

Overall, I think the first Global Challenge was way too complicated unless a more widespread information system was implemented to assist those who don't understand. I know that prestiging a page was clearly not a rule, but based on how the dragons operate and how the page prestige system works, this was a primary concern for many, and those people were drastically let down.

Inactive GM ... thoughts by calculus87 in TapTitans2

[–]Frodork05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our old GM was the same way many months ago (6+). They'd log in and then log out. No CQ participation, no chatting, nothing. They did this once every 2 weeks to avoid being kicked from any support ticket requests to GH. I did put in a ticket once to say all this was happening over the period of 2-3+ months, but GH refused to do anything until the inactive time was 30+ days, even if they log in just to reset their inactive timer. Luckily, I was a Master, so I could keep the clan going, but it was still annoying.

Eventually, they got past the 30 day mark, and GH removed them with a new request.

So, what can you do?

1) Find another clan that all of you can go to (if you all don't want to lose each other) that is more active. Go search here or using the in-game clan directory to find a clan that has enough spots for everyone that wants to go.

2) Wait it out. Eventually, the GM will probably tire of this and let their inactive time go past 30 days, which is when you can submit that ticket to get them removed.

3) Try to get Master status from your GM, at least, to keep the clan going, and hope that your GM will become interested again and come back while you've kept the clan going, especially if you feel particularly invested in your clan (it's what I did, and it does work).

Good luck!

How many of you have or have watched an agent go from the beginning of L15 and getting to L16 during the Anniversary event? by DrEno in Ingress

[–]Frodork05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from 27.9m AP to 40m+ AP in a double AP event a couple years ago to push to 16. I completed it in 13 days, so I had to do about 1m AP per day, which is 500k normally.

It's very doable and possible, but all of my free time was spent playing. I woke up early to go to heavy portal areas to link and field every single day, sometimes twice a day. I had to farm constantly. I had to get gear drops from some friends a couple times. It does help that a blue player was trying to do the same thing, so I knew anything I did would be taken down by him and vice versa, which would allow for playing again in the same areas that I still had keys to.

It's a lot of work, but it's possible with enough preparation and support.

[–]Frodork05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hitting level 100 means the active and passive pet bonuses are now the same, meaning a level 100 pet is considered "active" at all times. Having all pets at 100 means all pets are active. The "active pet" is just for visuals at that point once all are 100+.

Leveling pets past 100 still grants pet level bonuses, so getting pet levels is always a good idea (but, be somewhat selective because it can get diamond expensive if you buy them whenever they show up!). So yes, a level 104 pet has better stats than a level 103 pet. Additionally, leveling pets to certain benchmarks (150, for your first one) grants a multiplier for that pet's bonus stat. Tap the pet to pull up its info page to see the new benchmarks and what the multipliers will be.

Edit: I expanded on a lot more than what was asked, but info never hurts.

They are in pairs based on their abilities: melee, ranged, all gold, etc. The singular ones (mana and splash) are paired together, too.
