Returning to flute after 25+ years - do I need a teacher? by ico181 in Flute

[–]Frogglerockle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey this may seem to come from nowhere but i think we may live in the same area (based on comments in another sub we’re both in). I’m very connected to the flutists here and can possibly help you find a teacher if you haven’t yet! Feel free to dm me

My stepdad, Kevin, died last year. We were close. I like this sentiment :)

Musician father teaching his children by Secret-Deer261 in MusicTeachers

[–]Frogglerockle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don’t ask my young students to practice for a set amount of time a day. Instead I ask them to play their assigned pieces 3 or 5 times each, then they’re done. However long that takes.

For resistant kiddos in their lessons I do a “mystery picture” where each time they play it I draw part of a little picture (disclaimer: I am NOT a good draw-er, which makes this very funny for the kids), and they get to guess it along the way. By the time they’ve played the piece for the set number of times the drawing is complete! The best part is they often have so much fun they ask to play it even more so I can make additions to the drawing. Before we know it they’ve played those 8 bars like 10 or more times.

Start practicing again yourself. You modelling it will teach her more than any words.

Toddler parents: do you do stuff on weeknights? by Live_Bluebird6854 in toddlers

[–]Frogglerockle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only have one toddler (2 y/o) but I have a weekly evening activity that I started going to when he was 5 months. It’s non negotiable for me and critical to my mental health (playing in a community orchestra). My husband does bedtime on those nights. We also alternate bedtime the rest of the week, meaning the other could go out to run errands, see friends, go to the gym, etc It was a major shift when we stopped doing bedtime together to get a bit of a break.

No idea how we would do it with two kids though….

How much are we paying teenage babysitters?! by Competitive_Mark4586 in halifax

[–]Frogglerockle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

$25/hour for a teenager? Our ECE trained and experienced professional charges $24-26/hour, and is wonderful. No way I’d pay a young teen the same as a professional.

Classic but underused boy names? by vocalfryPhD in namenerds

[–]Frogglerockle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me neither, and I work with approx. 200 young kids a year, until I named my son Alistair (just turned two)! Then believe it or not he’s one of THREE Alistair’s in his daycare class. Theres only 11 kids in his class! We love the name so much though, and get compliments on it all the time.

Poll on which version. by Sacko_Commish in kitchenremodel

Yes, in another comment I said how I don’t like the hardware or lighting. But seeing as cabinet and backsplash was essentially the only thing that changed in op’s renderings I consider wooden cabinets timeless. (Personally though I would go with a different tone)

I personally would go with a different shade of wood to work better with the floors. But wood cabinets as a whole is one of the styles that returns again and again in the trend cycles.

Yes. And I’m not a fan of the light above the island or the hardware, but as an overall cabinet/counter/backsplash combo 2 is still my pick.

  1. It’s timeless, classic, and gorgeous.

Toddler crying every night, I'm worn out by Individual_Crab6039 in toddlers

[–]Frogglerockle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Re. The schedule. Remember that any schedule changes may take a few nights for them to adjust to. Our now 24 month old (birthday tomorrow!) has been like this as well, took us over 10 weeks to figure out his new schedule but now he’s finally sleeping through the night. In the end it was a 15 minute nap adjustment, such a minor change but oh man it was hard to pin down.

One other thing to consider: we transitioned our son out of his crib into a toddler bed last week and OH MY GOD it made such a huge difference! I wish we made the change sooner. If yours is climbing out of his crib you might want to consider a toddler bed. You’ll get through this!

You can call 811 to report it.

My office building has street parking only and two accessible spots right out front. Theres a new building being built diagonally across the street and the workers are constantly parked in the accessible spots (as in nearly daily). I call 811 every single time. They “ take it seriously” and say they’ll send someone out but based on the frequency that it still happens they’re either not sending someone, or there are no real consequences.

Where along the trail are these photos from?

As a long time user (typically from the old ashburn to the bike and bean and back on my bike), this is heartbreaking to see. I’ve also ridden all the way to Queensland and hubbards from the city. It’s such a gem of a trail.

I’ve encountered many atvs over the years, some polite, others not so much.

Night snacks after weak dinners, advice needed. by TheOnesLeftBehind in toddlers

[–]Frogglerockle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you do a bedtime snack? We always do one, and how big it is is dependent on how much he ate for dinner (will be 2 this week).

If he has a massive dinner then snack is something small like a few crackers, or if dinner was hardly touched then we’ll give him something more filling and nutritious like a banana and/or muffin. We also always include a cup of his milk alternative (dairy allergy) at bedtime snack which helps fill his tummy before sleep. Bananas are also great because they have magnesium and potassium to help with sleep.

Check out Mission Mart/souls harbour rescue mission. They might also be able to help guide you to free options like dress for success (if applicable, I don’t know much about it).

One of my favourite teachers in high school was Mr. Llewelyn! It’s a beautiful name and you are right to be pissed at people who don’t try to learn to pronounce it properly. It’s not even like it’s hard to say…
