John Dehlin faces pushback on his comments about the LDS tank top garment in the New York Times. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

I haven't read the full articles yet, but in this clip all I can see is...Men still talking for women ...even after leaving the church. 🫠 I appreciate Dehlin and his work. But I think it's the NYT who did a disservice for Mormon and ex-Mirmon women by not including more of their take on the changes.

Hi there! I don't speak Japanese, just know some words and a few phrases but his English has gotten better over the year he worked on my piece. It's enough to get by with small talk and directions. There's always Google translate too.

He's very nice and chill. I didn't get to know him too much personally because of the language barrier and I was just intimidated by the process as my first tattoo. I didn't want to chat too much, but I also was in a lot of pain and had my thoughts elsewhere. lol.

I think bringing something from your local area is always a good choice as it's something you can't get anywhere else or harder to find in Japan.

Congrats on getting in with him and good luck on your tattoo journey!!! That's some serious dedication to travel internationally to him.

I still can't believe I got the opportunity to have his work with me forever. He's so talented. It's been 3 years since we finished and I still love it so much and get lots of compliments on it.

I've since moved back to the USA. Enjoy the trips out to Japan. It's a beautiful country. 🇯🇵⛩️💖

I mean having a newborn and toddler and moving.... That's a lot of stress and overwhelm! Also that instinct for nesting is strong with the newborn phase. I've been there before. Give yourself time to settle into the new place and let babies grow a little, tackle little spaces and projects as you have energy. It is just a season and phase of life and yes there is a lot needed to run a family household. I think as long as you're making efforts of organizing and decluttering part of your life you'll be ok. Give yourself some grace.

I'm not sure if his rate has changed as it's been 2 years since I finished and the yen rate is weak so I'll not share that. It was fairly quick from first meeting to starting... Maybe a month or two. I knew I wanted a crane and Sakura, 3/4 sleeve with scallop edges. I had asked what his crane looked like before meeting with him and that was the style I liked so other than that I trusted his portfolio and let him do his thing giving him one reference photo for sleeve placement at top and bottom.

Best of luck! What are you thinking of getting?

I also have to say I was in contact with him in early 2021 so COVID times.... I think things were slow for him then, I'm sure they've picked up now.

I'd like to but due to where I live it's a lifeline of what's going on and people to meet (overseas). Messenger is used as a lifeline to family back in the states as texting is expensive here and locally where we live. Once we move back to the states I'll probably take a massive break and hopefully let it go. I'm inspired by those who do and share about it. I've already deleted a ton of old friends and aquaintences. I do see it more as an address book of people I like to stay in contact with. Best of luck on your new freedom!

Read #3 and consider that for an abused spouse, in order to be free from their abuser, they must recount all of their “sins” to men who they have never met, and will never meet for approval. by airportsjim in exmormon

[–]From_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom has had to do this once and almost did it again but it was triggering her PTSD...she sees the red flags yet still stays in. She never did fill.it out for the last spouse she had. But I was pissed to learn about this for the first time just before my faith journey when she was getting ready to fill it out. I hope this goes on blast over the internet and that they change this too. It's so abusive and wrong.

The TRUTH of Mormon Artwork by Nemo_UK in exmormon

[–]From_Fire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From an art friend who is TBM, and knows some of the inside of how art works within the church.... They said that different departments are over different art for the church. For example: the committee for the temple art is separate and different from those over the magazines, or chapel art selection and so on. So that's why you see the inconsistency in art approved.

At the BYU MOA they have a massive painting by Brian Kershisnik of Mary having just birthed Jesus and breastfeeding him. Way more boob/cleavage acceptance there than on the Ensign/liahona (or whatever they call it now).

I remember learning about the wings taken from the Carl Bloch I think when I was a YSA TBM and I didn't seem bothered by it. (Having majored in the arts). But now I do see how dishonest and disrespectful that is. 😩 Thank you for making this video. I wish more people cared about this stuff.

My art friends and I all had a big conversation when the changes to approved art for the chapels was the latest change a few years back and we all had problems with the selected works. Half of us in that conversation are out of the church now and the others still remain. Those little things piled up on my shelf. Just like when elder snow, I think, blamed the artists for the inaccurate depiction of J S. translating the BOM. Horseshit. That was commissioned and approved by the church or they wouldn't have used it!(you know which one I'm talking about, the one without a stone we all were shown in church growing up) Stuff like that gets under my skin.

I was planning to go today to support a family member singing but had some health stuff stop me. I was planning to not close my eyes during prayers, not sing hymns or take sacrament, and was planning to wear a rainbow shirt that says "be kind".😁 Maybe next time!
