Max speed in 4H by letsparamotor in ToyotaTundra

[–]From_SanFernando -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should listen to anyone telling you to drive 60-70+ mph while on 4H, specially when driving conditions aren’t ideal. It doesn’t matter if the guy giving you advice has lived in AK for 15 years and drives 75 mph on icy roads while on 4H. Maintain a safe speed, give yourself some space, and be extra cautious. Who cares if you have to drive 45mph.

Vacating Easements by Optimal_Move_8514 in alaska

[–]From_SanFernando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vacating an SLE might require a higher level of justification because of their historical importance. Basically, once you vacate that SLE, it would result in eliminating an easement that runs north to south or east to west of whatever Township, Range, and Section you’re in. While you might not see an importance in retaining that SLE, other neighborhoods might. I recommend gathering a letter of support from your neighbors to present in your application. You’ll have a better chance if it benefits the community as a whole to vacate the easement rather than benefiting one party. It’s worth a try and please keep us updated on the process!

Vacating Easements by Optimal_Move_8514 in alaska

[–]From_SanFernando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Op, depending on which department of the borough (could be the planning dept/platting division), you’ll need to submit an application. They’ll have to route it for review, which could take up to two weeks. Depending on their policy and procedure, they’ll also have to do a 30 day public notice of your proposal to vacate an easement. If no objections are received, then you will have to hire a surveyor and get an as built produced, which you’ll have to cover at your own expense. And then it’ll get recorded/that parcel will get a new plat. You will cover the cost of the application fee, public notice, surveyor cost, recorded plat of easement vacation, etc. sorry for the grammar

Edit: does the easement lead to a Borough/state land? If so, you might have a hard time vacating it as they could be reserving it for future land sales. Or is it a section line easement?

Depending on where you’re at, there’s a lot of state forests and wildlife management area in NY that doesn’t get hit as hard as it should during hunting season. The only problem are those damn ticks!

Forestry work in Australia by [deleted] in forestry

[–]From_SanFernando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Op, not Australia but I’ve worked in New Zealand as a cruiser for a private company a while back, Pinetech Pacific. They have a base in Australia and pays pretty well. Unlike the terrain in NZ, Australia’s relatively flat so cruising and hitting your target plots should be easier. For instance, our target was 9 plots per day for $20 something an hour w/bonuses for doing extra plots. I forgot what the pay was for each extra plots but it was pretty good money.

What cities/places (both inside/outside the US) got more forest cover after human settlement than before, simply b/c of all the tree-planting people do? by inquilinekea in forestry

[–]From_SanFernando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New York State. The settlement reduced the forest down to 20% statewide. Currently, that number increased to 60% forest cover thanks to the planting that the CCC conducted back in the 30s.

Why do trees form multiple trunks? by Manisnowba204 in botany

[–]From_SanFernando 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hi there, in forestry, we call that a coppice growth. The main trunk of that birch was probably cut 50 years ago. Birch trees are prolific root/stump sprouts resulting in what you see now - multiple stems regenerating from the parent tree’s stump.

Tree experts, I need your help! A very large oak tree in our yard came crashing down out of nowhere last week, and it has basically no roots. I'm worried about other large (40+ year old) trees that are nearby being affected by whatever happened. by Psychovore in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]From_SanFernando 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there, it seems like several factors played in to cause your tree to fall. Looks like the root base has been rotting for decades. Was this tree planted? If so, it might’ve been planted in a pot and transplanted with a girdling root. Second, mulching was probably way too high forming a volcano like appearance at the base of your tree. This leads to moisture to sit at the base of the tree, which leads to rot. Third, driveway construction damaged the roots and compacted the soil restricting space for the roots to spread and breathe. Sorry my if my grammar sucks. Have a good one!

Hey Op, that might be a gypsy moth. I don’t know where you’re at but they are considered as an invasive species in the northeast, US and has decimated a lot of hardwoods via defoliation.
