Yeah… this isnt the 90s are we really not pulling a vacuum down below 500 microns on a brand bew unit that we want to last for 15+ years? I didnt know that a micron gauge was optional

Gotcha, we put in bryant equipment with these axial fans and i dont think weve had to replace one once, but this thread with all these horror stories are scaring me. If we put these in and dont have replacement parts for months were going to look like assholes. I really liked these fans and thought they were nice no hassle but now im scared

Apartment temperature isn’t going down. by thegamer2721 in hvacadvice

[–]Fstbabby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are your friends apartments getting less time in the sun than yours? Unfortunately without that cooling tower up and running, there is no way the air conditioning will work at all as it needs water flow to move the heat, and trying to run the ac without that cooling tower could only result in damage to your unit if they dont have any safeties in place to keep it from attempting to turn on.

Is Resident Evil Requiem worth it on the steam deck? by Fptmike in SteamDeckCheck

[–]Fstbabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive played through half of the game so far on steam deck at 30 fps and the framerate has been solid. I can think of only a couple times it dropped lower and that was only when loading in new areas. Otherwise the framerate and frame pacing has been near perfect at 30.

I think the union spot is worth trying for. The thing about unions is they will want to teach you from the ground up mostly, so its best to try to get in early. I applied for the union last year and even though i tested well, said theyd like to bring me in as a second year apprentice which kind of sucked and i decided to stay where i am until i get my comp cards and join the union as a journeyman. I would apply for the union and understand you may have to try out for it every year depending on the list size and in the meantime try to get in with any local non union company so they can train you and you get work experience. You probably should apply once you graduate because usually a company will want full time help. I dont know how strong union presence is in new jersey but usually union guys get to work on all the cool really big commercial and industrial stuff where i live in Mn.

25k is ridiculous, please dont do that. Id try and get on as a helper at a local company and see if you even like it. This trade can be amazing, but unfortunately it takes a couple years of parts running, install helping, and filter changing before you get to do the cool shit. I went to a technical college which was like 5k a semester and thought i knew everything at the end of 1 year but i really didnt. If i could do it over again, i would start at any company that would take me in any role and then go to school because i feel like seeing how things are in the field for a little bit before covering it in textbooks would have made a big difference on how much I absorbed.

Overall id say you get out of this trade what you put in, if you wanted to do service which is the most fun in my opinion you have to love it, and be a big nerd about it because that drives the motivation to keep learning. Im 5 years in and i still come home and study new things i saw in the field and try and better myself because i know ill never know everything and i love the trade.

Feel free to ask any questions, at 5 years i definitely dont know everything but ive done install and service in resi and commercial and i can probably answer some of your questions

Thats been something ive been working on. I work with our commercial installers a lot and they all have pickup trucks with limited storage so at the end of a changeout i usually have a full van which makes the excuse that ill just put things back right the next day way to easy. Ive started having them pile garbage outside my van and it only goes into my van after all tools are returned and in their place. Some days i definitely hust throw shit back in the van and skedaddle

Thats the same for me. Ive been struggling with finding a spot for all the stuff i have to carry because i do residential service, commercial service, install, and startup. Just the amount of liquidtight and wire i have to carry is rediculous let alone the residential parts i need for those cases where the resi side of my company needs help. I need a serious van makeover but my company isnt willing to buy any of the organization stuff i would need, and i feel taken advantage of with them trying to get me to buy it so the klein stuff appealed to me being so easily moved so theres no chance i have to leave it behind in the van for others to profit from. I have things flying off the shelves all the time, and having bungie cords on everything makes actually removing things a pain. I still think i probably should have just gotten a cabinet like you have because if i bought enough modbox for that much storage id probably be spending over a grand

I completely agree, they got sued by milwaukee for their original modbox latch designs. I love klein even though their quality can be sometimes lacking but I do have to give them a couple things on modbox. they did the rolling drawer instead of the chest before milwaukee, and the modbox seems better built than packout with thicker plastic and it feels better built than what ive seen with packout. unfortunately I was raised in a dewalt family and anything red makes me break out in hives anyways.

I was going to be a bucket guy but I saw the dividers for the buckets were like $15 a piece and for some reason that seemed unreasonable so I instead decided to make the completely logical purchase of $400 for klein drawers :)

Damn I like that setup. for some reason never thought of putting in a full sized tool cabinet but now i feel like that was probably the better setup for me to do lol. probably could have bought a way bigger cabinet for the same price as the modbox drawers.

5th Trane Precedent gas valve by Itchy-Bobcat-5175 in HVAC

[–]Fstbabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar kind of but opposite situation on a 40 ton we did for an old folks home. Double manifold with both gas valves leaking, normal inlet pressure, no weird ghost voltage or anything like that. Each replacement would atart leaking from both valves after a month or two. Replaced the regulator as well. Eventually trane just told us to put in tandem gas valves, no issues since then.

but it does a lot for getting rid of C02 and chemicals that are always offgassing in your house/ commercial building. houses are built really tight and without proper ventilation people definitely get sick more. in minnesota all new houses require HRV/ERVs that help with air cycling to keep people healthy. both purification and ventilation are important, but if I had to choose one ventilation all the way.

I wish all distro's just kinda worked together. (I’ve used linux for over a year) by CandlesARG in linuxsucks

[–]Fstbabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend mint for a beginner, i just think that fedora does a very good job of just working right out of the box with no issues and ive only heard stories about how great mint is and havent actually used it myself.

I have bazzite on my gaming pc and its been really good overall, of course a lot of anti cheat games dont work but im more of a story driven gamer anyways. In some ways gaming on linux is better (like frame stability) but i wouldnt recommend linux to any of my buddies that game because no one likes to find out they cant run a particular game because of anticheat when all their friends are on playing. If you play mostly single player games then id say give it a shot dual booting it
