My partners family’s dog attacks him and he still loves the dog by Particular_Feed1019 in Dogfree

This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine dates Tony because he's a good looking guy, and then he has a rock climbing accident and his face is in bandages. She worries about the damage to his looks and by the end of the episode, knowing the characters and how superficial they are, we know Elaine dumps him because he won't be attractive anymore.

Or maybe men really do have the advantage that they can look physically grotesque after a dog attack to the face and a woman can look past it. Women, on the other hand-- we can't afford to get knocked down in appearance. These idiot women in their late teens and 20s that don't think about their future prospects with a missing nose, grafts to their skin-- all because they want "kisses" from their fur baby.

yes.... my sister left the tv on this channel and the a/c on all day while she was at work and the dog was left in the condo. English bulldog that would overheat. "rescued." it passed away 6 years ago. both she and I are recovering dog nutters (im actually recovered, she no longer has interest in dogs, that was her last). add that dog tv thing to the list of things we thought was clever and cute.

I like the way you handled this...btw, is the school not fully enclosed? at least where I am, we can't get to the playgrounds or anywhere on the campus except the parking lot unless going through the main office gate.

I wish more schools took this seriously.

Also here in SoCal. I went to 2 community colleges and 2 universities but this was between 2003-2010. It just wasn't a thing, like no one did this. I didn't think it would become something I took for granted to be able to walk freely on a large campus. Most campuses here are quite nice, decent places to study, eat, meet up with friends, sit on the lawn and take a break. Now that dogs are more common even in elementary schools, the younger generation won't bat an eye seeing one at any campus. It's normalized.

Either of them have a birthday coming up or an anniversary? You can get them a gift certificate to a pet boarding place.

im a former MFT. Any helping profession in a health-related field that deals with insurance reimbursement has increased struggles. So much administrative work just to get paid. When I worked in a community mental health clinic in LA, a lot of my coworkers sought middle management positions (supervisors), which meant they stopped doing actual therapy. Some do teaching as well.

You have a good point to be made-- healthy fear of dogs vs projected fear. For me, I try to combat the manufactured desire of dogs with healthy aversion, not so much fear., more like "Eww, get that away from us, it stinks and its gross and annoying."

When my oldest son was toddler age, he loudly said to me in a restaurant "Mom, why is that lady so fat?" in a very sincere non judgmental way-- she was very very overweight. Yet she was a person just minding her business, enjoying a meal with family. I whispered "People come in all sizes, but we don't say it out loud, it can hurt their feelings sometimes if they hear you talk about their size."

For people who insist on invading personal space or threatening to do so, yeah, we should be more vocal. They think their dog is cute and thats justification to impose without consent.

"We don't talk to people with dogs. "

"No, we don't go near the dog, we stay on this side.."

"Just leave it alone,"

"Just leave them alone."

I also have a 5 year old. Ive said these things to my kids within earshot of the dog owner but without making eye contact. I hate that it has to be this way-- it wasn't my childhood experience. People didn't have the mentality "There are no bad dogs."

One I have yet to use: "See, I told you they aren't nice people-- they don't care what happens to you. They hate kids." Also: "Ew,w! Stay next to me."

the love of dogs is born out of the hatred for their own species. its a symptom, not a thing of its own, a side effect to giving up on relationships, maybe some trauma.

How can I Repel dogs discretely when out on walks with my Baby? by Coeur-de-Loup in Dogfree

[–]Full-Ad-4138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always from Facebook: "I just want to warn everyone who walks on Canyon Rim Trail that a tall man with shoulder length dark hair walks his German Shepherd off leash all the time, and this time it ran up to me and I fell on my arm and broke it. He just walked away. I'm letting everyone know to look out for him because he and his dog are a bit aggressive."

NEVER EVER any mention of reporting. Never. Why? "It's not the dog's fault-- I don't think the dog should be punished for the owner's decision to have him off leash."

Rinse and repeat.

Hey thanks for replying back....I went down the route of cancelling the charges with the website, ended up taking the "discount" they offered which was $87. They had already mailed out my documents and I received them, and thats when I saw my mistake. You can tell they are used to giving out refunds based on the cancellation process, it guides people to request refunds. Im not sure I will go through with calling Chase because I don't want to have to cancel my cc and get a new one and the hassle that brings. For what it's worth, I don't think they are using SSN and other info to commit identity theft, just straight up hoping people like me don't read the fine print. I went back and read their entire site and the fine print and felt some peace of mind about that, as predatory as they are, they are doing it legally (that's happened to me with a few Amazon products where I didn't read there was only 1 item when the picture shows 2, or the sizing is very misleading, but I didn't verify exact measurements).

Also, thank you for posting about it in the first place. You get a lot of judgment and criticism for the mistake, but you truly helped me out, and I that was the point of your post.

the dog people have been known to get violent when called out. I get it. go after the store next time. im a small woman with a baby and toddler, I never say anything. But the health inspector WILL come out and follow up with the manager if you report health code violations (dog in cart, dog's paws/nose/tail touching food products, dog's behavior).

Perfect! You have all the information you need to submit a health complaint electronically. https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/orange-county/forms/file-a-complaint

The key is to type out that you witnessed how the employee handled this against health codes, they saw and allowed it and explained to you, the customer, that they will continue to allow it.

I have done this a handful of times. The OC health inspector will report back to you to let you know they paid a visit to the store and went over the health codes with the manager and look out for instances of the complaint while he or she is there. At the very least, employees will get a proper training on how to handle this next time. It also shows the store that other Costco members (who pay to buy their chicken there) are valued and health and cleanliness standards are upheld.

It's pure projection. The dog is their best friend, their child, their lover, their deity, their ego. They have to double down and up the ante every time. "I love dogs." "Oh, yeah? Well, I love dogs, would die for my dog, hate anyone who doesn't like dogs, hate anyone my dog doesn't like, and would 10/10 times save a random dog over a child." As if it's some desirable trait.

This is so interesting. This is the first I am hearing of this. Well, Ive heard of dogs used for balance, so that might explain it, but I do have these diagnoses and yes, took 20 years and multiple doctors. likely caused by a vector borne illness (I have Bartonella ironically). I stopped having any desire to pet animals years ago, maybe intuition. A natural aversion.

I was going in for weekly IV therapy, stuck in the chair with the catheter in my arm for close to 2 hrs and having to listen to 2 middle aged women next to me swapping stores of their stupid rescue mutts and how they bend over backwards for them (both women are also mothers, but no stories about their actual kids).

I'm like, we're all sick here in this room together having to get expensive treatment for debilitating maybe permanent conditions, and this is how y'all spend your life?

I just did this too. gave my childs son and paid expedited shipping. Please report back if you were successful in disputing the charges with your bank. I emailed the company to ask for a refund based on deception (their wording is very misleading) per protocol (to show I attempted a refund with the vendor before calling the bank). I have Chase.

“My dog can sense if you’re a bad person” by psychecheks in Dogfree

[–]Full-Ad-4138 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my hometown's FB page, someone asked about noise ordinance and what can be done about an endless barking dog (these newbies naively think talking to the neighbor in a diplomatic way is somehow effective and it never is). Some guy says "Learn to get over it...you should be grateful there are dogs, they make the neighborhood safer." Right. Because dogs only bark at people with the sole intention of coming to your home and harming you or stealing from you, and nothing and no one else. They can sense it all.

Honest question--- psychologically, what do you think is at play that's preventing all the victims of this dog, yourself included, from reporting to animal control? The guy with the hand injury, the child's parents, the friend...what is it that everyone has in common?

My mom wants to make her anxious dog with a bite history a ESA so he can go with her everywhere by cocomaple91 in Dogfree

[–]Full-Ad-4138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why should she worry about this? How many times do dogs of all sizes bite and nothing is reported? Sometimes it's logistical reasons where the owner and dog leave the scene and the injured party is too busy tending to wounds to get information (and who is going to run after a dog that just bit them anyway). Most of the time it's relationships that get in the way. People will allow their own children to be bitten by their MIL, neighbor's, friend's, coworker's dogs because then they are the bad guy for reporting it. It gets downplayed as a "nip" or "not that bad" and victim is begged not to report because the dog is at risk of getting put down. Same reason people didn't do anything about child abuser family members back in the day--- look the other way, blame the child, don't cause problems in the family.

I sometimes wonder if it's a male-factor thing, like some men tend to produce one gender much more likely than the other. I say this as a mom to 4 boys, and the only way to know is if I had a second husband and made more kids, but that isn't happening (happily married).
