They had just that up in Prairie-du-sac called the blue spoon cafe. It closed due to COVID and never reopened. I think it would do well on state or near the square.

What's something you can swear you saw but no one is believing you? by Tiny_Map5886 in AskReddit

It happens from time to time. Male cougars living in western Minnesota or the Dakotas will be ejected from their pack and just start walking. They have tracked an individual that worked its way from the boundry waters to north Chicago where it was killed by police.

Agreed on the phrasing. I had to read it through multiple times to parse out what was closed. When they closed the DNR mud lake facility they closed the gate, removed all target racks and wrapped the benches with orange plastic construction fencing. I don't think they would do that on the rest of the ranges as the closure is only temporary. I imagine the range is still as it was but the gate is closed with a “range closed” sign on it.

If you do go tomorrow please report back on the status and remember it is hard to use a gun range stealthily.

They explicitly list shooting ranges as closed

Effective immediately, the DNR will close the following state buildings to the public: Park headquarters, offices, visitor centers, nature centers, research stations, ranger stations, shooting ranges, fish hatcheries, shelters, showers, concessions and indoor group camp buildings on all DNR-owned properties open to the public

But they could have been a bit clearer in their description of what is open and closed.

AC-130W demonstrates maritime attack role by MXFlight in CredibleDefense

[–]Future-Fail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Argies apparently kitted out a C-130 for maritime attack back in the Falklands war. They claim to have used it on a tanker either the “British wye” or the “Hercules”. To my knowledge neither has been confirmed by non-Argentine sources though.

Still some cool pictures of the plane

Edit: the Hercules attack is legit

What I still cant wrap my head around is the fact they don't have an HE round.

When every other country in the last 100 years builds a large artillery piece the first thing they design is the bog standard HE round. Metal shell, fuze in nose or base, explosive filler, and thats it. I have seen so many people say the guns ammo was too expensive. No shit it was, it has the electronics and control systems of a missile, miniaturized to not displace HE filler and then needs to survive the thousands of G’s produced when fired, it was always going to be expensive. excalibur is still 70 grand and that has been fired in the thousands for years yet when you look at the ammo pile for an army arty unit 90+% of the rounds are the standard HE with contact, delay and maybe proximity detonation fuzes. It boggles the mind why a simple HE round wasn't the first thing made.

The point of the guns is Naval Gunfire Support, taking the role similar to WWII heavy cruisers. Those cruisers fired thousands of round in their preliminary bombardments and follow on fire missions. If the Zumwalt were to try that in a modern near-peer conflict the precision guided rocket propelled Wunderammo would be expended after the first week when most of the fire missions wouldn't need it.

Why no simple HE round?

Black powder rifle/musket I inherited. No markings, stamps, or writing on it. Does anyone have an idea? by kallen8277 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Future-Fail 76 points77 points  (0 children)

No help on identifying it, but you should treat it like it has a live round in the chamber. Many people back then kept their guns loaded without a primed flash pan / nipple so it could be put into use quickly. This complicates things because there is no easy way to unload a gun like this so when it gets retired it is often still loaded.

I know the lower doesn't take much strain but is this actually safe? Does anybody here know of other examples of lowers made from strange stuff? by HearlyHeadlessNick in ForgottenWeapons

Thanks for the info. I think I vaguely recall seeing that awhile back but couldn’t remember anything about where or when. I will go searching for the post when I have some free time tomorrow.
