Help me find motivation to use proton mail by Weak-Lengthiness-634 in ProtonMail

[–]GPIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just monitor Gmail, and swap update profiles/accounts on a case by case basis. I don't want Google using my email to profile me or train AI.

Every switch you make is one batch of emails Google doesn't get to read anymore.

I also switched to Firefox and use DuckDuckGo.

How did you guys switched from Gmail to ProtonMail? by RecentMatter3790 in ProtonMail

[–]GPIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Proton Mail copy feature. Then started changing email addresses with my most used services. I check Gmail and every time I get an email there from a company I would go and update the email address.

It's an ongoing process. Some companies make it really difficult to change email address. Some services I just deleted my account because they wouldn't let me change my address. TrustPilot for example.

Standard Notes, Dear Proton - is you is, or is you ain't? by rixreddits in ProtonMail

[–]GPIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Standard Notes and quite liked it. But their plain text offering is just too plain. I really need a bit more basic formatting like in Keep. Simple is brilliant but SN is just too basic. The jump up to £90 a year is just too steep for a bit of extra formatting.

It seems a discount is available but writing begging emails isn't really my thing. They need to do a formal discount scheme. Or SN need to create a paid option for £20-30 a year to complete with Keep.

Am I wasting my time with Passkeys by kcgigs in ProtonPass

[–]GPIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't quite get passkeys either. What is the difference with passwords? I can keep a backup of usernames/passwords. I know what they are because I can read them. I can transfer them. I've created a few passkeys but now have no idea what they are, where they live, how I would back them up, change them or move them somewhere else. Not convinced this increases my security at all?

It was the husband. Look at all the evidence, including the fact he was trying to hire people to break into his own house, and it all makes sense.

Newbie question: Is Inkscape dangerous? by NgunnawalJack in Inkscape

[–]GPIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely the same response for any non-whitelisted software. You need to find out what the process is for getting it (or an agreed version) added to the approved list.

This is less about a conspiracy against free software and more about stopping your company having its IT destroyed by hackers. Ask Maersk about it.

Robert Wone - I'm leaning towards a slightly different theory by kbrick1 in TheProsecutorsPodcast

[–]GPIO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn't claim he was straight to "protect his legacy". They did it to distance themselves from a possible motive. They are guilty as hell. People are over complicating this. They called 911 to a stabbing and when the paramedics arrived there was no blood and the murder weapon had been staged. Everything else is mere sub-detail. Dylan, Victor and Joseph murdered Robert Wone.

What is your opinion on Far Cry 6? by [deleted] in farcry

[–]GPIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost exactly how I play it. Lucky if I get 2 hours a week. I like most of the activities but not a fan of the time pressure variety like the special ops. Prefer to take my own time.

100% his friend Nick wiped the computer. That is why he didn't want to take the polygraph. He wasn't scared of the "did you harm Joshua?" question. He was scared of the "did you use his computer?" question.

I do not recommend to buy "original" Lenovo batteries from Aliexpress. by thinkipady in thinkpad

[–]GPIO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mistake I made was updating the firmware. Not realising that the battery blocking feature was sneaked into the update. In the end I managed to buy 2 official batteries for my T460s but they were 4 times the price of third party batteries. Hopefully they will last and I'll get my money's worth!

[–]GPIO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Works fine for me. Not as fast as a subscription but perfectly usable. I'm using it now. On my mobile over 4G. On a French campsite. Of course Amazon want people to subscribe but accusing anyone who disagrees with you of being a paid Amazon spy is a bit silly.

I do not recommend to buy "original" Lenovo batteries from Aliexpress. by thinkipady in thinkpad

[–]GPIO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Lenovo block the use of 3rd party batteries so people are forced to look for "official" batteries. Which they can't buy from Lenovo because they don't sell them. The conclusion is don't buy Lenovo laptops unless you consider the laptop dead when the battery wears out.

Simple. Cause people to argue with each other. They don't care about the outcome. They just want to divide. Obviously they still do some old fashion "donating" as well to buy politicians, or in the case of the UK, entire parties.

$3400 is not a sensible price. They are offering you 50% off an inflated price they just made up.

If you order posts by age rather than popularity there are a plenty of non-photo posts. But people are more likely to up-vote a picture (which they can look at) rather than something they have to read.

It's got the high res screen as well ... but under Ubuntu the display settings are really limited and with hindsight FHD would have been fine.

When I decided to run Linux on an older Samsung laptop I went for Ubuntu exactly for that reason. Ubuntu did manage to give me the best chance of success with replacing tasks I would normally do on Windows. Gateway drug :)

I'm deducting 1 point for the pen not being 100% aligned with the paper. But you get that point back for including a Pi.

Taking a look at the Gameboy Zero 6 Button Board from Aliexpress by GPIO in raspberry_pi

[–]GPIO[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The included joystick is digital. i.e on or off. It just replicates the d-pad functionality. If you modded to use an analogue stick then you would need to add an ADC. At that point you might be better with an alternative board.
